Born in the reign of King Rama IX
King Bhumibol Adulyadej died on 13 October 2016...
Today, a lot of young thais honour the king with different tatoos. We can see few exemple online : http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-37691330
What do you think about this ?
In my opinion, it's crazy... Tattoos are important with a personal symbolism... They love their king, ok, but for me it's to much. They will have to live with this tattoo all their life.

Tattoos are great!!
I think is a beautiful gesture.. People are proud to be born in thailand and prouder to had that king. they think he was a great king and they respected him a lot. So get a tattoo for him is a mark of respect and of honour.
Moreover some of those tattoos are really nice (and really cheap, I should go there!!)

I agree tattoos are great but for me it's to much. Yes they are proud, me, for exemple I'm proud to be in France... but I never would get a tattoo with the face of Mister Holland ...

This topic remind me a movie I watched during my spanish courses named "Sin Nombre". It's about drogs cartel. People inside this cartel tatoo them to show in wich cartel they come from. They've a lot of tatoos, sometime they haven't place on their body. Even faces are tatoo.
It's the same way to show how they are pround of their affiliations.

This movie is great and so moving.
It exactly what is happening in thailand.
They are identifying to their group and their country.
I don't any french people will get a tattoo of a french flag, but you will find tattoos of other french stuff (movies, books, food, places,..) We are not as patriotic as american, thai, cartel people...
Look at this, I love "le ptit prince"

Well, depending on each people I'd say tatoos have more or less important meaning for people. Let's take the example of a star I know. His body is almost fulled with tatoos but each of them has a personal meaning and corresponds to each challenge they lived.
But some people only do it to look cool or to show off.
I think tatoos are really great as long as you put a real meaning on it. I would have a tatoo but only in order to immortalize a moment of my life or else with a deep meaning, but never to look cool. If is was so I will quickly get bored of it. A tatoo is something you keep for life so you need to wisely think about it.

I agree with you Lorry, sometimes you want to immortalize a specific moment but we change during all your life, our feelings, our visions and traits can evolved and this amazing tatoo we would like alot one day on our life can change too. That's why it's necessary to take time and not get it only on a header.
Well this is the reason why I think it's maybe excessive as Amandine told because I don't know if it's just to follow the others and the movement or if it's for themselves.

Re: Born in the reign of King Rama IX
Young people with tatts can look cool but
Young people get old (well maybe not the drug cartel guys)
Old people covered in tattoos look sad.
