Week 5 - Music Empty Re: Week 5 - Music

Post by Gabriel Pilon Wed Oct 19, 2016 9:17 pm

I think music is realy important in general. Listening music you like quietly is something that can realy help you feel better, gives you endorphin, makes your stress decrease and help you to go in some king of meditation or trance. In fact, music can be used as a medication in some practice. I think listenning music when you are not overwhelmed (Thanks you John for this AWESOME vocabulary Very Happy ) can realy help you finding peace. Peace is not the absence of conflict but the ability to cope with it. Then music make you abble to slow down in a fast world, fast society and to take a break in your mind, to remember who you are and what do you want in life. Once you have make the fog of stress and overwork disappear, you become lucid and clear. So I really advise you to listen some calm music, anything from classic to whatever you want, to make you feel better and kick the stress out of your body. You can google what stress do to your mind, to your heart, to your body in general. It generaly create a lot of fatigue and make you feel like shit and you don't even know why. Then music can be use to reach your goals with less obstacle, to motivate you and to create a better environment in your daily life. Once you kick the stress, averything become a piece of cake.

Week 5 - Music Empty Re: Week 5 - Music

Post by TAO SIHAN Sun Oct 23, 2016 6:48 pm

The American composer Copland once asked that does the music makes sense?

Of course. It's significative. Music is one kind of art. Franz Joseph Haydn said that the true meaning of art rests with making people feel happy, making them be inspired and making them obtain the strength. For me, I think the music is a regulator of our life and mood. It's important and necessary. Beethoven think the music is an enlightenment more higher than all the wisdom and philosophy. Music can save our soul.

Actually, music has many effects. Many years ago, music is like a sign for expressing some massages. Different rhythm reflect different emotion. We need the music accompany us. When we are happpy, we listen to the joyous music and dance with it, for expressing some happiness which we can't use the words to explain.

In China, we have a lot of music about the history. We can know more well about our history with these music. Because we can feel something that the history book can't tell us. It's hard to explain this effect of music but I think everyone can understand when they listen to the music. It is magic. We can resonate with it.

Post by Antoine Palard Mon Oct 24, 2016 12:14 pm

Can we say everything thanks to the music ? The possibility of censoring certain songs striking a blow at the society may be questionned.
Indeed, some songs as ''Sale Pute'' by Orelsan or ''Samck my bitch up'' by The Prodigy's, were censored because they contained words considered misogynous and violent to the women. The answer to this question, The musicians are protect by the article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights : ''Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.'' However the United Nations have limited this right in the international pact on civil and political rights. A freedom ends where begins an other one
Since 2006, March 3rd became the world day of the freedom of the music.

As everyone I really love music and what's beautiful about it is we can probably find a piece we all like.

From metal to classical going through reggae and pop there is so many masterpieces and we all like different style. But if I tell you "Highway to hell - ACDC" "Eminem - Lose Yourself" or "Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody" we'll nearly all agree "this is good music". And for all different sort of reasons: for example the Queen one is as great as it's well-made and various from the beginning to the end. Some of us have personal reasons to like a particular music track but overall music makes us enjoy ourselves when we listen to it alone and unite us when we do in a group.

Personally I prefer Metal, Rap and Electro (Glitch hop mostly). I say that here cause I've never met someone who like similar music as me so if there is in this group that would be cool !

Music, this fantastic play by notes and voice that captivates us.I like most music styles even if I have trouble with French artists. Who can outdo PInk Floyd? I do'nt know. My father saw them twice. He's really lucky. But i love chill music too. When I do not want to think about anything. When I drive I prefried classical music or soundtracks of films like Interstellar or Gladiator. Last week, Gabriel me rediscover The Luminneers. I love this group. The voice is beautifull. But who can do better than David Gilmour? Hendrix ? Maybe, but Another Brick The Wall ! Just incredible !

Music is escorting us all the time, all the days that's why it's amazing. There isn't an other thing much present all the day than music.. Consequently, we have memories, and lof of songs refer one to us. What's more, music can be different with the culture, the religion, etc and consequently, it's one of the best way for sharing some moments !

It's really tough to talk about music, it's a matter of taste so it's very personal IMO. Im gonna share some of my favorite song but first let me tell you I like very meaningful songs from various artists such as stromae (the belgian rocks!), kid cudi, eminem (unavoidable), kanye west (yeah, some of his songs are powerful) etc. When I was child I used to listen to old french songs (joe dassin, nana mouskouri) because of my mother Laughing
But lately I listen to funny songs, which boosts me and makes me smile at the same time, with straight lyrics (the rawer the better)! So I introduce you DJ Lubel and the lonely island, IT'S WORTH THE LOOK

Like most people I listen to music. As said a singer of my country, music is a way that allows us to travel through space and time.
Music is a tool that describes the society where we live. Sometimes it conveys a message alert to signal to public opinion of the phenomena trouble ensuring that develop or sometimes turns into a lawyer to defend the interests of society with the shenanigans of the rulers.
There are several kinds of music RnB hip hop Reggae zouk etc. Each genre grows more in one area over another. For example in the USA the kind that is most listened's GNI, at the Jamaica's Reggae and Cape Verde at zouk...
From me the kind of music that I care the most is the kind of Slow because it allows me to meditate to find a small slit to the vacuum in my head.

For me, rap is the best music of the 20th century. There is no more relaxing than Rap. Sorry Mr Admin but "I like Rap" Smile. It's a real lifestyle. When you love the rap, it has a real impact on your clothes the way you live, your mind, your body.
With rap you understand why you live. You understand that they are your fights. This style of music is healthy for your mind. You don't keep the anger in you, you to share with others. Often rhythmic, rap motivates you, allows you to move forward in your daily life. If you do not like rap, I miss something.

I do not agree with Antoine Palard. Rap requires sustained language. It is shameful to listen music in a "Sale Pute". It is a scandal. It would have been courteous to listen to this music "malpropre péripatéticienne." Smile

Post by TR Wed Oct 26, 2016 12:48 pm

As Kilian said, music is life.
I don’t know what I’ll do without music. It's a part of me, it’s what means the most Very Happy
There’s just one thing I can’t understand: French music… I don’t listen to a lot of French music.
Anyway, what I like the most is poetry so the only ones I really like are: Vianney, who’s the king of my heart  LaughingEmily Loizeau, a great singer-songwriter. Her words are meaningful and powerful. And I think Joyce Jonathan is a symbol of modern French music too.  And Christine and the Queens! ♥️

Music is way of living. It helps us understand the world. It creates unity (like Valentin who wants to find people with the same tastes as him xD).
Personally, I mainly listen to song lyrics, it’s the basis. Then come all the musical instruments … and the combination makes ART. I want to share a song I used to listen during my childhood :
We all need music. It helps us to overcome the bad times and remember the good ones.
Instrumental music is also necessary. Especially when watching scary movies, it spices up the scenes.
For my part, I listen to almost all music genres//and many singers and musicians obviously...such as: Toofan, Karen Souza, Soprano, Petit Biscuit, Usher, The Maine, Gyptian. I just hate heavy metal/rap/hip-hop.

I leave you with one of my fav youtube video ever: santa

I'm agree with people who said music reduce stress. After class i like to lisen music during few minuts to relax.
I don't have espetialy kind of music. Actualy, I listen a Toulousan group: las aves. They sing in english. This is a mix between rock electro and pop. I listen 2Cellos too. It's 2 guys who come from Croatia and Slovenia. They play bass and they modernize music classic with famous songs like viva la vida, shape of my heart or hysteria from muse. When you watch their clips you understand they are very crazy! I like their moved side!
Next, I can listen merengue music: especialy when i'm tired. For me spanish music is the better music to regain energize!!! This acoustic give happiness and dynamism. It's very therapeutic. Same when i'm sad or happy i listen spanish music. At the moment i used to listen to Club Belugas.
The only kind of music i hate it's metal and heavy metal.

Post by zhaozixuan Wed Oct 26, 2016 9:24 pm

Hi,I want to say a little about my understanding of music.
In September 11, 2001, the devastated people gathered on the night of the terrorist attacks in the heart of New York City, singing “ Victory is ours.”
Madonna insisted on her concert in Europe the next day after the French terror attacks in 2015 and explained that if people stopped singing, they would be defeated.
Until today, Liverpool's Sheffield stadium, Every week, 40,000 people sing “You will never walk alone” for the victims who died in accident.
When it comes to suffering and frustration, when people stop the sporting event, turn off the shop, stopped working to pray for life, the music has not stopped.
So music is not just recreation and entertainment, if you want to say the supremacy of the meaning of music, that is, life continues, just as the music is still ringing.

To sum up, Gyptian is life and I agree with you on that cheers

Song can convey important messages, feelings, and gyptian's songs can take you away, far away in your soul! Another singer made me such effect: Nuttea but it's too much depressive, if I was depressed, these songs would push me to suicide

But hey, you said you hate rap/hip hop but some of the singers you mentioned are in

As PO said, but more generally, i think the music you listen have a real impact on your social, and clothing, life. Unless it's the reverse, maybe the way you wanna look have an impact on the things you listen? When i was a kind of gothic, i used to listen some sad or metal songs, now i listen to various kind of music, from metal to rap or electro and all their derivatives, and i don't care the way i dress, but don't know what comes first.

Who can live without music? No one.
It is omnipresent, everywhere. Music means a lot in this world so violent.
Look at Cuba, The Rolling Stones came in live !! The music created special moments that nobody would suppose the existence!
And Bob Dylan! He received in October the Nobel Prize for literature! Everyone was surprised and yet it appeared as obvious to many people!
But sometimes I regret that some nobody make with music. Music is supposed to be poetry, a strong message.. So yes it's true, I'm not very attracted to these new commercial singers who appeal "midinettes". It lost all the charm of music! I'm sometimes amazed to see how all these singers win while local guy who sings at the village festival sings much better haha!

Go I leave you with some music that we love necessarily because we are economists Wink

For me, the music is rather special. I play the music since I am 6 years old. I play in a group which plays many musics of streets, musics of the Pays Basque. We play so many musics as people know because it is simpler to make people participate and to put of the atmosphere when people know the musics. Beyond that, when we realize services there are regularly other groups, what allows to form ties, to create friendships with people that we would have never met without our common passion.

Goth music is a really large genre of music, but bands like the cure, the doors, inkubus sukkubus, black veil brides, echo & the bunnymen, cradle of filth, paradise lost, lacuna coil, bowie... and more generally emo bands (within temptation, bullet for my valentine...) and protopunk groups like the clash, motor city 5, the kinks, misfits ...

Nowadays, for me, the music is dying. Most people want just to hear something to dance, labels want just something to make money and musicians used to create song without sense and song lyrics. I hope this situation can be resolved soon. I think this is a shame, music is something essential, it helps us to think, to dream, to share, to feel and so mutch more
It's important to share a little of music so that she can still live.
Thus for me the best music albums that i've ever heard:
- My aim is true                 Elvis Costello
- Physical Graffiti                Led Zeppelin                              Yes, i love rock music.
- Nevermind                      Nirvana
- Exile on Main St.              The Rolling Stones
- Joshua Tree                     U2
(And yeah i think each of this albums beat the Pink Floyd.)

To summarize what everyone said before, "Music is life, Music is love, Music is everything". If you cannot discust something in life it's <<taste>>, so everyone is free to listen to whatever they like and that's what is so good about music. For my part i think i'm an all around guy that give a try to pretty much everything but it's been a while that i'm in the search of unpopular american artist such as Luke Christopher, Nate good, Andy mineo or even e dubble, you should check them out they are good Smile. I was also surprised by some tastes here, i mean who could have guessed that po-vinel is a big fan of rap lol!

How quickly we forget music!

I'm thinking of greats like Bing Crosby, Mario Lanza, perry Como, Johnny Ray. Young people don't even know their names.

I'm wondering how soon I can walk into a classroom and say Elvis Presley and most people won't know who I mean.

New music is great and important but there is so much great music from the past that is simply disappearing.
