Black People History - Ines and Cynthia

Slavery, Malcolm X, Nelson Mandela. I felt like Darth Vador and the evil empire. A thought provoking presentation to finish the semester with. What did you think?

I like how they presented their topic. Congratulations ! There were several examples and it was a complete subject. The videos were subtitled in French it was great to understanding ahah !! They prepared their presentation very well.

The Black People History is a subject interesting, complicated and sad. Colonization, human trafficking and slavery are horrible facts and for me it's crimes against humanity. Today European governments continue to benefit from African countries on different subjects. We (simple citizens) suffer the stupidity of our ancestors but we are for nothing and  in life by moment I feel that it's our fault. Personnaly I have many African friends, I know their history and I understand their sadness in relation to that. It's one of the worst moments of humanity.

Perfect presentationn, the subject was very interesting. It treated about very important subject in our society, witch is sometimes unknown. I was in South Africa last year, and I learned a lot about this subject.

Excellent subject of Cynthia and Ines. This presentation was very interesting and very well conducted. Even if we all know the main lines of the history of the black people, it is always shocking to remember what he has experienced. Hearing several testimonies was very touching. In addition we learned several anecdocts (personally I did not know why Malcom X had chosen this famous "X"). The girls managed their presentation from beginning to end. Congratulations

This is a big subject and very sad for the last presentation.
I knew the slavery story. But it was interessant to speak about these figures who have fought for freedom. They have done beautiful speeches. I'm happy that today minds have evolved... but I also know that we still take advantage of Africa. It's sad...
I don't remember who has said (maybe Melissa ?) that medias tell us what they want, but I agree. Almost everything that we know about Africa it's provided by medias.
The sentence of the end is for you John. Thank you a lot for these 3 years. You're a good professor and I liked the way you teach us. I think we have learnt with fun and we have more speak that the other years with other professors. Good continuation

Last but not least presentation...
Slavery, Segregation, Apartheid... and more, have hurt black people, but in general the whole world. I still can’t believe that some of those events were less than a 100 year ago, ...
For instance, every time I travel to South Africa, I can feel that the Apartheid is not that far. Black, White and mixed people there are accepting to live in peace but they are not mixing with each other: every skin colors, if I can say that, have their own schools or their own suburbs, and I find it particularly sad but I believe that they are on the right way.

Ines and Patricia have also mentioned "Colonization" and "Dictators"...
My point of views is: I don't understand why we are calling our countries "independent", while we are still using the system established by the Colonists: Democracy
Why can we use our own system? We are we still accountable to them?
But I don't think it is all western countries fault’s. I believe that it is also Africans responsibility’s. Once they have the power, they mistake own interest and national interest. And some of them, and by them, I mean us, are dreaming to leave in western countries to have a good life, but by doing that, they are letting "colonists" control their countries....

Very interesting subject. I really liked Cynthia's intervention to explain the post-colonial evolution of the second era, an human stupidity (with these African dictators + some operating policies of Western countries like France).
It's much sadder when you are African and you feel unable to change things, and unfortunately suffer the law of the strongest.

Malcolm X, N Mandela,... these guys at least had courage, and they remain models and symbols of freedom of thought, to exist. Whether we are black, white, yellow or whatever, we are all entitled to a good life

With globalization (open-mindedness, shocks of cultures, exchange), we must believe that future generations will not retain the same mistakes as in the past.I strongly believe it.


Finally, thanks again John for these 3 years of English class (the best English teacher I've ever had). I really progress in English thanks to your work methods and some personal advices. I hope that you will continue to teach while taking pleasure in doing it as you always did.

Subject rather historic, they made us relive certain important moments of the past such as the slavery with the triangular trade, the information which we had already seen during our studies in the secondary education. They found videos striking as that of Malcom X, to forget never how black celebrity were handled in a time.

Very insightful subject and presentation! African and in general Black people sure have come a long way but saddly, there are still a lot to overcome.

Africa HUMANITY CRADDLE ... we were all taught this in our history lessons but today I will say Africa craddle of misery . here is the image perceived by all and when I say all Africans even reflect Like that then as long as we Africans do not say stop nobody will do it for us.

It is always good to know the history of a people

Very good subject, it shows whites people that we have a history and allows them to better understand it

We can't tell that you've chosen a "light" topic to finish the year, but you have shown that this topic was important for you and by the way you've deeply worked it.
You mentionned that president Chirac told that he recognized Europe have earn a lot of Africa. To go further with this, Chirac was passioned by human developpement, Darwin, world history etc. It's (or at least it was) a very clever man, and he often reflect on this subject. So if he told this after spending a lot of time on it, we can easily believe him.
Unfortunatly what happened before is really hard to repare today, and today the responsible countries have conjonctural problems who take all their times. According to me it's not in the very next future that they'll solved it.

The Black People History is complicated and sad, in particulary with colonization and slavery for example are horrible facts, it's crimes against humanity.
Unfortunately the behaviors of the past still have consequences on certain current acts or thoughts

Nice presentation, its a difficult subject to talk about but you did well.
We can thank all these heros who fought against the autority to obtain their rights.
But i see some problems still remains, as we can see about the us police killings in the United States and as i explained during Mat and i presentation, where i said there is an implicit bias linking black people to crime.

Thanks for the video. Personally this subject remains sensitive to me, for I have always wondered in what name a race is supposed to be superior to another to the point of deciding COLONIZATION? The murders of the blacks in the USA by the white policemen of whom JF and Matt have spoken show us how much still remains of the way to go, as Rachel so well said ...

I would like to thank you for This way of teaching us your subject during these 2 years spent by your side. Indeed, through the videos made as well as the different presentations that we had, I appreciated this living language and I learned so much by you, Mr John, as by my other colleagues. I think back to the CASSAVA which was presented last year .... Lol. It was fun. Thank you again for these moments that you allowed us to live Mr. John. Good continuation.
