Hi,
Today, I would like to talk about the "European FOOD programme"created in 2009. It's not about specific or distinctive food but about Fighting Obesity through Offer and Demand programme. FOOD Programme uses an approach to promote balanced nutrition and to improve the nutritional quality.
FOOD programme is a public-private partnership composed by experts from Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Italy, Spain and Sweden.
The FOOD project promotes healthier lifestyles. The objective is to educate employees and to improve the nutritional quality of nutrition in restaurant in liaising with food providers : restaurant, chefs and waiters. it's a very good initiative to fight again obesity !

Week 2 discussion topic Group 2 - Food Empty THE FOOD INDUSTRY IN 2017 - A SHORT REVIEW

Post by Wissam Tue Sep 26, 2017 10:34 am

I really like eating. Every culture, style within it, types of food (fast food, home-made, good'ol mama's cooking...). But as i am developing my tastes, the Internet makes me question myself about what i eat, about how i eat and why i eat it.

Read my short review of the food industry in 2017 to know how i see EAT.

What i observe is that on YouTube, you find people talking, thinking and promoting a new food industry. According to several videos, a more ethical, safer, sustainable and attractive food industry is making its way to the surface of our cities.

Consumers are going to be presented millions of new products every year in the future. Not only they will choose a functional product, they will choose within a range of highly engaged brands and products. In 2017, consumers take care of their health as it is a growing determining social factor.

From new born to grown adults and elderlies, food is already determining most of our lives.

More and more start-ups are joining the food industry market, promoting "#The Greenest", "#More Connected to You", "#More Friendly", "#The Most Nutritive", "#The Most Social Food to eat with your friends". These consumer trends are already a reality and shape our lifestyles through Facebook, Snapchat, Pinterest. Social media opened the door to new ways of sharing what you eat. Bloggers, influencers and reviewers invaded the web, transforming it in a big kitchen where you learn what, how and where people eat in 2017. In France, we have 2 big YouTube channels : FastGoodCuisine and YouCook, or at least they are the most popular for the moment.

New 2017 food brands engage consumers online, then in the shops, around innovative concepts of brands, products and experiences.

I hope that the actual trends around food will be part of our lifestyles. They are already trying to find answers to global challenges of the World. The synergy between consumer values and those of the brands is rising through communication (advertising) and experiences (censorial marketing).

In the future, the best brands will be the ones that engage consumers around their values, and not only its products.

I also hope the food industry will do a lot of effort(s) for the Diabetics and Athletics, 2 groups of people that really depend on the food they eat.

I am enthusiastic though and i would like to know more of your food tastes by reading your posts.

Moroccan food would be the type of food i dream the most of when I am not there...in Rabat or Casablanca. Because i am half Moroccan, i know some traditional Moroccan specialities; they are listed below.

Couscous with beef meat and harissa
                                        The Tagines
                                       The Rfissa
                                        The Harira stew
                                         The Mechoui

                                        -----DESSERTS-----

                                        -----DRINKS-----
                                           Moroccan Tea
                                              Hawaii (The Coca Cola Company)
                                           Sidi Ali Water

                                       -----SPECIALS-----
                                          The Tanjia
                                       The Seffa (''Angel hairs'')
                                          The Kerr'In
                                          The Mrouzia

                                         -----SIDES-----
                                          Moroccan Bread
                                             Black Olives
                                          Greenish Olives
                                             Spicy olives

Way better than the "Jambon beurre"

- Hola !
- Hola ! But why are you talking in spanish ?
- Yes you're right it makes no sense. Let's talk about something really important : food.
- Oh, I guess you read the other comments ?
- Yes I did... Someone gave us a very sensible warning about spicy food. What do you think about spicy food ?
- Oh, I remember... I was in Egypt, few years before the war, and I took a spicy chicken at the restaurant.
- And then ?
- I learned something : water is not your friend when your mouth is litteraly on fire.
- Oh I see... Also I noticed something terrible !
- Terrible ? Terrible how ?
- Nobody said that the Savoyard's food is the better food in the entire world !
- NO ! HOW CAN IT BE POSSIBLE ?! I didn't expect that level of "terrible"...
- Think about Raclette, Fondue Savoyarde, Pierrade, Pieclette (Raclette + Pierrade, best combo ever), bœuf séché des Alpes, tomme de Savoie, Tartiflette...
- Oooh please stop, you make me hungry. I need to watch some savoyard's food porn videos on YouTube right now...
- Before that, I've a little joke...
- Tell me I love your jokes !
- How is called Jesus Christ in Savoy ?
- Hum, I don't know...
- CHEESUS CHRIST !
- ... Please help me I don't want to live in this guy's mind anymore.

Hi everyone !

I have read yours comments and it seems that we are all crazy about food, and I guess it is a good thing !
I am not really into spicy food, like Matthieu Morisset, I am much more close to ClémentJaunay's taste (I love Raclette so much !). And even if I think that the topic that Marion Le Moullec talked about, the "European FOOD Programm", is really important, I do love more pizza than vegetables (unfortunately).
So yes I guess my favorite meal is pizza. I always loved it, but much more since I went to New York City where I have tasted the best one of my entire life. It was in Queens, and it was in an Italian restaurant that was only serving pizza. The pizza that I have tasted did not have much ingredients on it (only tomato sauce, ham and cheese) but the pan was excellent! In America they do eat a LOT of pizzas, in fact they are the biggest pizza eater in the world. There is a typical American pizza that is called the deep dish. It is called that way because the pizza is in a really deep dish, making it a high and impressive pizza (French do refer at it as a Calzone but it is still different). It is from Chicago, North of United States, and it takes almost an hour to cook it ! If you have the chance to taste it, do it !
Ok, I will leave you, because after that I really need to eat !
See you !

I hadn't heard of this before. Whilst Obesity is clearly a major problem and getting worse in the west, I often question some of the "scientific" claims made they so often tell only half a story or simply get things wrong. There are so many claims made one day only to be repudiated a while later. A "balanced" and moderate diet with plenty of exercise seems reasonable to me.

Post by joachim natali Tue Sep 26, 2017 9:00 pm

Hi everybody!

Firstly, I need to say I love food but im a very bad to cook... Crying or Very sad
Like Matthieu, my favorite is spicy food, specially dishes from my mother, because she is from Morocco, she always prepares chicken or fish, on Tajines...
I also like, Asian food, my favorite is "Tandoori chicken", this is a dish from India, prepared with some chicken, spices, and yogourt. I discovered this dish when I was in High school, because one of my classmate, came from India, she cooked that for us. (I really recommend to you, it's better than a classic Indian curry Chicken)
When I don't have so much time, I use to go outside for eat, I like fast food like Tim Hortons and A&W, unfortunately not in France because they are from the best country in the World: CANADAAAAA !!!.
Even, I can eat Canadian's pancakes with maple syrup every day, this is so yummy.
For diner, I often go to my lovely neighbor Morgane Very Happy. She really know how to cook, contrary to me, she prepares some delicious quiches or feuilletés...
When Im not at Morgane's house for dinner, I can cook by my self pasta or frozen food (sad life) Crying or Very sad
Finally, I love brunch, generally on sunday morning with eggs, fruits, juice (you know what to do for my birthday Smile)

Seeya !

I have read all the comments. Indeed, Matthieu, if you like eating spicy foods, i firmly recommend you to try the Chinese hot pot. As a quite popular food (or the most popular food) in China, it has also a great reputation in all foodies' heart. We can find hot pot restaurant in every corner in China, even in Paris, you can also find it. I've tried several hot pot restaurants in Paris, between them i think the restaurant Auciel(锅色天香)is the best. Even though the environment in here is not the best compared with others, but the ambiance is perfect, also, the price is quite friendly for students.
Week 2 discussion topic Group 2 - Food 16138711
So what makes the hot pot so attracting? Besides its spicy flavour, the ambiance in the restaurant is another reason. Traditionally there's only one pot on the table, we put the meat and other vegetables in the same pot. During the waiting time, we can talk about many things. So one time when i saw a french man ate alone, i talked with my friend that he only knew the delicacy, but ignored the essence of the hot pot.
(sorry about the terrible grammar, it's been a long time, about 5 years that i didn't write in English seriously)

And for other Chinese food, I prefer the HUANGMENJI(yellow spicy chicken) which I cooked frequently when I was in Poitiers. It's a speciality of Jinan where is the capital of my province and also the city where i studied in the university in China. So,  an example can explain how popular is it. In Jinan, there was a restaurant who only cooked the HUANGMENJI, in 2012, it has only several chains in Jinan. I remember that in the food street nearby our university, there was one chain of this restaurant. And now,2017, in 5 years it has expanded a lot, over ten thousand of this chain restaurants were opened. Of course besides this chain, there are also many other chains who imitated it have realized their fierce expanding.Week 2 discussion topic Group 2 - Food Timg10

Hello Matthieu ! I totally agree with you ! I love Mexican and Asiatic food in general. I've never try Mexican food from Mexican chief but I am pretty sure that I'll die, you're right ! It is the best way to be on fire. However, I've already tried Mexican candies. Have you? And I can say that is really weird because their candies are spicy ! That's insane ! About French food, I love heavy and traditional meals, especially with a lot of CHEESE. (In tartiflette we trust rendeer ) From my region, Brittany (best place on earth), you can find the famous crêpe bretonne. With salty caramel it's heaven...
Do you have any traditional product from you region that you love eating ?

Post by Eunhae Park Wed Sep 27, 2017 10:12 pm

Hello everybody,

I'm happy to talk about this topic because I love eating world food. Like Joachim I would like to go to an Indian and Pakistaese restaurant here in Angoulême. And like Mathieu I like Mexican food too. I love spicy food in general. I like soft food too, for example Japanese or French ones, especially the bœuf bourguignon, the coq au vin and the confit de canard. I really appreciate to live in France because there is a lot of worldwide restaurants.

I am quite open minded but I would like to understand one thing I see in my neigtborhood supermarket butchery : rabbit cranes to be sold.
For what French speciality is it sold? How this product is cooked?

Like you, i love eat or taste Mexican, Indian, Chinese, Marrocan, Japanese, English and Breton... food. The food of the world is what I prefer in the food. We have a great wealth of product and way of cooking !

To answer to Nolween, the traditional product of my region i enjoy eat is the tourteau fromager.
The cheesecake is made with goat cheese and a portion is burnt. It's light, it is heaten without hanger.Iit's a perfect dessert after a hearty meal.

Agree!Tourteau fromage is one of my favorite food in France! When I was in Poitiers, I usually ate it with milk. Take the swinged part off and pour the milk at the rest part, that would be a perfect breakfast, isn't it?

Ahahah, it's a little bit weird to see that you eat Tourteau in the morning Mégane. In Britain, a tourteau is a crab ! (But I'm not here to judge your food habit ! Laughing )

I see some of you are cheese lover ! I can't stand to eat my first Raclette of the year ! Razz

Hey guys !
I can see that everybody became crazy when it's about food !! XD
Me too I like eating world food like french, Idian, Japaneese, Chineese or Korean dishes, it doesn't matter I like everything ! Smile But, there's an exception for spicy food because I can't stand it !

As Tian, I would like to introduce you specialities from my island home Tahiti. Actually, there's something I missed the most which is the Sunday breakfast. It's a custom for Tahitian people to have a good breakfast in family. Sunday is family and friends day !
So, Sunday we usually eat for breakfast raw tuna with coconut milk, coconut bread, uru ("fruit of bread"), fe'i (a type of plantain), sweet potatoes and lots of fruits like, mango, papaya, pineapple, ...
I know there're many things, tahitian people eat a lot ! But, it's so good, fresh, we can't get bored !!

Also I like cooking, especially desserts ! My favorite recipe is the apple crumble, it's pretty quick and easy to prepare. I would like to know, what are your favorite dessert ?!
I think I can try to make one (one day of course) and don't forget, too much of a good thing isn't good ! Razz

Matthieu Morisset wrote:Hi guys,

I will tell you what i love to eat today! great topic i know.
First, i'm a huge fan of mexican and indian food. Why? Cause i love spicy stuff. But as an european! If one day, a mexican or indian boy/girl want to make you a meal, i tell you, you will suffer cause it's way too hot! Ask something soft, but still, you will cry.
I like chinese food too but i don't really know any specialities so if anyone could tell me a bit more about chinese specialities, I would appreciate it a lot !

Mexican Candies are spicy ? Is it like the "tête brulée" we do eat in France ?

TIAN Zhekun wrote:I have read all the comments.

Thanks for your response Zhekun, I'll definitely try this chinese hot pot, i have the feeling that i'll be in love at first sight. Sadly, i don't really like big cities so i'll try to find one here, hope there will be one and that this one will be good!

Some french people eat rabbit skull like they eat the neck of a chicken as an example. It's rather the old generations who eat rabbit skull especially the cheeks.
