Hi everyone,

Last class today and last topic too.

I want you to review the Smester's English classes. What did you like, what could be improved, changed, removed. What suggestions do you have to make NEXT year's L3 S1 a better experience for the students? The outline for the second semester is already set-up but I would like you to say what you think you need during the second semester and how I can maximise your learning and your enjoyment of English. Feel free to be critical as I can only improve my classes by constructive feedback from the people I want to help the most, I understand that I'm an "old man" who may be losing touch with the latest generation and their methods of learning.

Firstly I'd like to say that I spend a great semester with you, it was very funny. You manage your class almost like a one man show and that was very pleasant to come to your class each week. I really like the fact that you base your way of learning on communication because I think that in general, english teacher are too focused on the writing way to learn so I think that you should continue this way. That wasn't a constraint to come to your class and I really like english so I was happy that it was not that serious. You act very natural and this is very cool.

I also like the fact that we have to talk about topics and about series or films we watched because that's not as boring as traditionals homeworks.

I hope you will live long and I wish you the best for the future !

Firstly, I really like this semester in English. It was too short but very funny and absolutly not annoying.
I like make oral expression and oral comprehension. And it’s a good idea to talk about a series because we have to watch a series in English. Without the forum I will not watch a series every week. And moreover, thanks to this work we also have to write and it could improve my expression. We can talk to everybody and discover series.
We have done 2 oral expressions, even if I don’t like oral because I am stressed; it’s a good exercise to improve our oral skills.
I think we could have more exercise to do at home. And for example we could read an article in newspaper and talk about it in the forum. We have done lots of oral but we don’t have read and try to understand a text.  And, I really would like have a word list to improve my vocabulary. Just for us, if somebody want to learn word, he could. But if he doesn’t want, he is not mandatory.

This semester was great, there is no better way to learn a language by speaking and speaking again (IMO of course). This forum is a great idea too, especially because we speak about things we like and we want to talk about (most of the time..). Concerning the oral presentations, it is obvious it could be stressful for many students but you give the impression to be comprehensive when you are listening to us and it's really reassuring.

Maybe you don't give enough grammatical exercices but honnestly who like it ?? You are the first native english I've ever had in my life and it makes a big difference, you are speaking a "real" english and it's the best way to improve our level !

So according to me it was very funny this semester. I gonna try to do this with my own word. I had the chance to meet you John and it was a great experience since the begining remember our interaction about Leicester!
Concerning the way of learning it is great to work on our oral with the different presentation. I like this idiom since I started it unfortunettly I learn more lonely than with my  teachers excepted with David great David (it's my men too! )

I expected more vocabulary. I think it's very important to learn english. Also talk in upenglish is great think especially  when we spoke about series but I thnik the problem is that you can not correct what we wrote. I think it is too bad because we don't realy know if we do great think.  So, you could  make a test (only one), a type of dissertation about a topic.

To finish do not change because you are very cool guy! I never expect to meet someone like you but like I said I had the chance to  met you!

Learning English is started by loving English, so now I did. before I almost never speak English, but now I have realized that it’s urgency for me to change. And during this semester, I have developed the habit to watch the TV series and try to repeat. It’s a very good way to find the interesting of English.

If you would like some ideas for class, in my opinion maybe we can have some economic topic in class, and before class we can prepare a little for the topic in home. I think it’s good for us to improve the vocabulary of economy.

Hey!

I really appreciate your good mood during all the semester. You’re funny and that’s brought something fresh to the class. The fact that English came to us with fun and in a playful manner it’s appealing. For me it was a real pleasure to come to your class.
The fact that we have to prepare different oral was nice. We don’t have much time to prepare the first presentation about countries. I think that we don’t stress much because the class is in a relaxed atmosphere and that’s cool. Oral test allows to increase our level. I really appreciate this exercise. It has to be repeated.
About the forum, when you talk about the series, I was like Oh Yeah! That’s a good way to improve our written English. It’s nice to debate, to respond to arguments. Anyhow, this forum perfect my skills. Moreover, the subjects are (most of the time) interesting and we can talk about our series and discover others. It’s better when someone talk with you about the last episode or else. About the Ted Talks, it's very constructive, and the sharing in class was clever.
I join Nadir about a test, like an essay or something else. Comprehensions are a basis, it’s logical to have one. I don’t think that we have to do homework, we already have the forum to maintain. Maybe watch more the forum, about what students wrote even if I think it’s a huge work who takes time.
Last thing, please tell us where we have class, sometimes it was heads or tails to decide where we were going!
And the Taboo, it was so fun! Sexy Sharks always first!

Firstly during this semester I enjoyed going to your english class. What I like is the fact that the class is not only based on grammar rules or on economic specific vocabulary. Wich I find interesting is the fact that your class is tourned to the ability to communicate effectively. And I find communication is the most important when we learn a language. I'm agree with my classmates, a teacher who is native English is more enriching, moreover you are funny. Your pedagogical techniques are good because I work without really having the impression. (like right now, where I write on this topic !!!).

Indeed I liked having opportunies to speak about several subjects withour feeling judged about my english level.

Last years I was'nt comfortable in English, now, even if I'm not fluent in english I feel more confident. Next semester I would be in Slovakia, and I feel ready to study and live during this Erasmus experience.

I really enjoyed this semester in English, it was different from the previous years where we learned especially to know how to write English however I think that English is only learned by practicing it in oral c ' Is why your way of teaching is the right one. However I think that for us future economists or others, one needs to speak English fluently but the number of hours of course is too small.
Moreover, the fact that we have to pass the oral in front of the class in a language that we do not necessarily master very well allows us to gain confidence in ourselves and to train ourselves not to be in our zone of comfort. We are all afraid of having a bad accent or most of us and passing in front of everyone and having to speak English without any notes requires us to work our accent and our language. It was a very good semester in a very lively class.
Looking at English series is a good thing to get used to the English or American accent of the actors. This allows us to start having the American or English ear.
In short a good semester but not enough time to really work our English.

I really like and appreciate this semester in english, it was funny and beneficial for everyone.
I like how you manage and organise class. And i very appreciate that for the first time i have an english teacher who focus on communication, understanding and discussion between us. Not just on written, grammar, etc., even if it's important. But that changes from all those previous years in English class.

I also appreciate to discuss on the forum on every topic and series/films we watched. I reviewed some series i have watch before but this time in english ( i discover that it's really better in english than in french ) and i also discover new series (now i have lots of series start but not finish )
Discuss on the forum was a good exercise on communication and in some ways learn words or expression when we want to explain or said something (for me it was the case).   And oral expression also contribute to this ( even if i lost my words each time )

This semester was very great, i don't think that you have to change something !
When students have a great and funny teacher, they can only learn better or take more interest in the matter if before it did not appreciate it (Not my case , i hope one day i speak english like a speak french or arabic )

I think how you teach is a really great method to do it. I think that it needs a lot of energy from you and you should be really exhausting at the end of the day.

Maybe one of the point that could be improve is the presentations, just have one or two by week should be easier for the students and also for you (I think it's what you gonna do during the next semester but it could be both I think).

Howerver, you're one of the best teacher we've ever had during the all L1 or L2 or L3...You have respect for students, you're smart and kind, I don't think a teacher need anything else

I still don't now if we learned a lot with your "crazy" method thought, but I had a great time by your side man. There will always be something to fix, nobody is perfect, but as far as i'm concerned you're the closest thing to perfection as a teacher. To be honest I really want to tell you to change nothing cause you was perfect and also, cause I want to share this same wonderfull experience with those who will come right after us. I know that you're a smart teacher, means that you will always find a way to figure it out teaching wise!!

While I'm writting to you, I became a little bit emotional cause, I saw some of your student's messages, and I could feel at the moment, all the love around you, it was trully one of the wonderfull thing I saw since a long time and something that I will always remember. And my little finger tells me that it was just what you was needed and the fact that you questioned us about a way to improve teaching wise, was just an pathetic excuse !! I mean you call yourself a GOD!! That say a lot about yourself just an outstanding teacher!!!!

First i would thank you for being so happy and funny during the courses, and also for creating new learning process with the several speaking exercices. I think you should continue like this. A lot of teachers terrorise theirs students with irregulars verbs ... but you, Mister Cox you send all your love for your language to us. That was not the case with Mister Fur. Thanks to him, I increased massively my english level, but I didn't love this language. But since the begining of your courses, I have learned to make jokes in english, even if they are not funny, I progress. Next semester I will study in Lisbon, all my courses will be in english. But I will have to  communicate with other students. And you courses give me the possibility to communicate easily with the others. So I will be able to  judge the efficiency of your courses with my integration level in Lisbon. Goodbye John.

Hi !

Firstly, I want to thank you because it's a real pleasure to come to your class, it's change of the teacher than I'm used to.
I think that the oral is the most important when we learn a language because speak it's the aim.
You don't give many homework, just watch a serie and post about it, and only two exercices in one semester. I think you can ask more, especially about grammar and vocabulary.
I regret that we havn't a correction about what we write in the forum, it's difficult to see our mistake by ourself. A kind of assessment" can help us to improve our written expression.

I wish you good vacation, it's deserved considering the energy you put into your courses.
