Week 3 discussion - Polish Girls Empty Re: Week 3 discussion - Polish Girls

Post by Viktor Beekman Thu Oct 06, 2016 10:33 am

Hello everyone!

When I read about the new legislation that would impose a 5 year jail sentence to the polish women that undergo an abortion I was disgusted. The fact that abortion is illegal in Poland, except for special cases like rape or when the mother’s life is in danger is quite sad on itself. However this new law really is a step backward for the women in this country.

Therefore I hope that their strike will be a success. The women have decided to stop going to work and to stop doing their domestic duties as protest. Hopefully their voice will be heard.

Over and out,

Post by Celia Butel Thu Oct 06, 2016 12:02 pm

Hi everyone,

This week, I looked up an article about the condition of living as a woman in Poland. Actually, there is a new law about abortion there. The law said that a woman who does an abortion risks 5 years of imprisonment.

To me, a French woman who can abort with no risk in my country it’s difficult to understand and imagine this situation. That is unacceptable because a woman should be able to do whatever she wants with her own body, and that’s why abortion should be a basic right. The issue is about the liberty of women.

So I understand their mobilization and demonstration these last days and I can encourage and support them.

Hugs and Kisses,

Celia Butel.

Hello friends !!!!!

I want to speak about the inequalities between men and women in Poland.

First, Poland is a conservative countr, thus, the rights of the women are limited. In the employment market, with the same level of qualifications, the salary of the women is 25 % lower than the salary of the men. Moreover, only 4 % of managers are women.

In Poland, there is a shortage of nurseries, forcing women to take care their children and to stay at home. They spend 20 hours per week to take care of household chores.

The access to the contraception is limited too. For Exemple, the pill is expensive, it'is not repay and most doctors refuse to prescribe. Since 1993, with the influence of Catholic Church, the anti abortion law has been voted. The abortion is authorized in case of rape, danger for the life of the mother and malformation of the fetus.

Poland is touched by the women trafficking. In United Kingdom, Poland is in the top 10 of the rank of women exploited.

The number of political woman is low, but thesé women are very religious and not feminist. Thus, it's difficult to established in this country the equality men - women.

Week 3 discussion - Polish Girls Sam_1810

Good evening everyone !

First thing it came to my mind when we choose this topic was a sort of diagram I saw on a magazine !
So here I am, I found this diagram, and I tried to photoshop it a bit to put the sentence in English.. Ok it's not perfect but still the idea is here.

So first thing, obviously it's ridiculous to think that make a fundamental right like abortion illegal will just stop all abortions of Polish women... and moreover it's dangerous !!!
Second thing : like my picture said, it's a right to dignity ! Women can dispose of their own body.
Thrid thing : Thank Ms Veil we have this right in France, and it's respected. I hope it will never disappear, Poland is doing a fucking backward move, I don't want to follow this pace !
I am usually tolerant and attentive to point of views but I am loosing my patience when I heard some people like the "charming" Marion challenge a fundamental women right like this (even crazier... Because I can bet she is a women Suspect )... I will stop before starting an endless speech on the dangers of this kind (I mean the extremist, racist, and dumb kinds) of people having powers.

Good night ! See ya ! king

Today, I read a article « how women have bends Parliament ? » in Poland about the abortion’s ban. I think is good to watch that the people’s words has now influence in the politic’s debate. Women took courage to raid in the street for their right.
It’s dangerous to note that differents gouvernments want to make laws for return to the past. In Europe, Asia and North America, in the most of country, the abortion is permitted. The abortion is the liberty of choice for all the women.
I am happy that the Poland’s women keep their right on this topic.
People have had right to defend their feelings, their convictions, their ideas like this summer in Turkey.
Long life to speech of people ! I love you

Post by Maxime Calogine Sun Oct 09, 2016 12:22 pm

Hello economists,

This week, Léo chose an interesting subject. In newspapers, I heard about the situation in Poland, but I am only half-listening this scandal. So yesterday, I read, in details, various articles to know different opinions and point of view.

Today, the bill concerning the ban of IVG was rejected by the commission. It’s necessary to know that this idea was pronounced by "conservatives", the powerful Roman Catholic Apostolic Church. About the parliament, the minority of members of parliament  were in favour of this idea but are very influential. So, it’s a tense atmosphere which dominated.

For me, this proposal is an aberration of course. If this idea was accepted, Poland gets back in the Middle Ages (in the past). This State could become the first country of the European Union to return on the abortion right.

Really I appreciated the incredible national mobilization and also international. Thousands of women are ready to follow the feminist organization. They went on strike, dressed in black, in Warsaw streets. It’s a citizenship lesson. People have to express himself to fight against this kind of insane ideas.

In 2017, I hope that the young French people will go to vote for expressing their opinion, and especially to fight against the rise of extreme concepts. The average citizen's opinion is very important, that’s why it ‘s necessary to express yourself through the vote.

Hello
This week the subject to women's position of Poland.
The Polish parliament decided to abolish abortion. This is a violation of individual freedom and despite some cases this is necessary for the health of the mother or to desire not to have children.
Women protested and organized a demonstration against the law.
The parliament European has decided not to intervene and let the polish deputies decided their same.

Good week!!!!

Post by Laura Croegaert Mon Oct 10, 2016 4:41 pm

Hi everybody,

Currently, in Poland abortion is authorized only in the case of rape, if the woman's life is in danger or if the foetus is unwell or malformed. There are 2 opposing opinions : the first is in favor of abortion and the second against abortion even if they would reduce women's rights. They explain that any individual has the right to live.
If the law against abortion passes, I think that the country will be strongly impacted. Underground abortions will increase, or women will leave to a foreign country to abort the baby legally.
I read in the posts of Celia and Viktor that in their articles the authors said that protests have born fruit because of this. The conservative party abandoned the law that they proposed, because they probably saw that their proposal gave a lot of trouble in the country.

Week 3 discussion - Polish Girls Empty Re: Week 3 discussion - Polish Girls

Post by Julie Chartier Mon Oct 10, 2016 4:47 pm

Hi everybody !

This week I read a lot about the condition of Polish women and more especially about the project of law which aims to reduce women's rights in terms of abortion. In fact, in Poland, the abortion is already very controlled (one of the most reglemented European countries). The women can use it only in three cases :
- if they were raped
- if the mother's health is endangered
- if the embryo has an anomaly.
The project of law should reduce the possibilities of women to abort. In fact, they should abort only if it's dangerous for the woman.

If the law is adopted, aborting women and also doctors who help them could be sentenced to 5 years in jail.
I really angry about that because I think that each woman should be able to choose what to do with her body !

Then, more of that, this law could put women in danger because if they can't abord in legality, they will do it in clandestinity. And I think it's important to notice that in the world, 47 000 women die every year practising clandestine abortion.

I encourage Polish women to continue their fight to protect their rights.

See you

The polish parliament wants to introduce a bill to limit abortion rights. This is the conservative majority that wants this measure. This represents a social repression for women. Yet Poland is already very restrictive concerning abortion. They want to limit this right by making it possible for a single condition : if the pregnancy puts the mother at risk. Mother practicing an abortion outside of this condition will risk a sentence of 5 years in prison.

Many Poles have already protested against this measure. This is normal because the bill violates the rights of women and represent a threat to democracy. The Polish people is mostly against this reform. Europe could also intervene because this bill does not represent the value of the European Union.

This situation is quite worrying. It only remains to hope that the Polish parliament finds reason..

Hi everybody, I've seen that the group have a good understanding about the subject I've choose to speak about. I would to extend the subject and tell you my opinion about the position of women not in Poland which is a study case but in the world.
Nowadays, a woman who do the same job than a man, earn 20% less money. Too many job ,espiecally in Politics or job which get you an higher position in the society, are not accessible by the woman. In this kind of job, woman suffer from sexism. I've read that 1 over 5 woman have been raped in her entire life. And some of them are justified by the outfit (skirt, etc) of the woman when the attack. What do you think about it?
I hope that this fact will be disapear. Probably if Clinton get the Presidency, the mentality could be modifiate.
Warmly

Post by Aleksandra Blaszczak Tue Oct 11, 2016 6:48 pm

Hi everyone! Firstly, I want to thank you all for writing on this topic, and thanks for even coming up with such a proposition, it means a lot. As a Polishwoman, I'm very sad and angry about what's been happening in my country when it comes to the new abortion law project. It's not yet an official law, so I'm hoping that after seeing thousands of people on strike, as well as the international community deeply moved, the more and more conservative government will take down this proposition. Whatever the reason, because I guess if they do it, they'll do it only for the chance of votes in the next election. I doubt they'll win, though, with all the mess they've been making - including firing experts in some ministries only to hire someone underqualified who they know and can trust. Anyway, I know that abortion is a sensitive topic but some people just don't look at the bigger picture and put forward their needs and their beliefs. They may think that their way of living is best for everybody when it's not. I think it's safe to say that there are too many children without a proper home and attention, and bringing them to the world may mean only suffery to them, never appreciation of who they are. Another point of view is that our resources are shrinking on the planet Earth - if you want a child - adopt one already born and in need of help. Those who think abortion is complete evil rarely know the position the woman concerned is in, but they still impose their reality. I don't agree with that and my answer is this: you don't like Camembert, then don't eat it. The same with abortion, no one makes you have it, but let others take decisions about their lives and bodies.

Post by Lauriane BELLOY Tue Oct 11, 2016 8:40 pm

Hello everybody !

The women right is more than ever in danger in Poland with the conservative party elected in the presidential elections in may 2015 and elected in parlimentary elections in october 2015. This party is a conservative party with a back view of women. Indeed the law and justice party sees women as housewife which may explain the anti abortion law hasn't been finally adopted because of importants events. If the conservative party was elected is that Polish society is a more traditional and catholic of the european union with 90% of the population is catholic. More since 1989 and the fall of communism, anti-feminist movements developped in Poland. This actuality shows that women's rights remain fragile.
