CEPE English for Tuesday 8th March
Hi everybody
For this week I think we can go back to our "usual" groups - not the TOEIC group setup. I don't really mind which group is first or second, preferably organise it between you so that everyone can come to class but if you are incapable then Alexia's group can be the first group!
I'd like you to got to the following link, read the article and watch the short video clips in it for a class discussion of the subject:
Women are not Objects
Please reply to this post to say you have seen it (and with any comments or follow up links that you wish to leave).
Please tell the others in the group to come to this page.
Thanks

Seen it, I think it's a really important fight that this ad company has and seeing all those adds in a row was really impressive because it showed how much of these type of add there is out there, I think it'll be a great topic to discuss in class

Hi John, I sent you an email on your univ-poitiers address, I need to send my CV and cover letter to the US tomorrow morning, could you please proofread them? I'm sorry that it's so urgent, this opportunity presented itself only this weekend! I hope you'll have the time. Thank you very very much!!

Seen it! I watched for the first time weeks ago I think this is a great idea because we know that ads usually use women with a sexist connotation to sell anything. Women have to go on TV all the time and watch adds that make us seem like puppets. I've never in my life seen a sexist guy add in my life. Before it was like "women are so useless all they do is clean" now it's like "women are so useless all they are used for is to act sexy" It's a good way to reconsider the image of woman in the collective psyche of advertising area ! It use humour and irony to share a real message. To date it's the better way to promote a strong message and also a reality.
In this add we can watch the roles of women and men in reversed order.

John I have a question for you. Why don't we keep last week's group but we switched them ? Because otherwise some people (Like me) will be screwed, 'cause the TOEIC group has started two weeks in a row.

too late now Alex
How can you feel so bad about coming to English between 4 and 6? If it's so bad I'll give you permission to miss the lesson all together and I promise not to have another 4-6pm lesson for you this academic year.

It's just coming to class between 4 and 6 that I'm not found of It has nothing to do with English ^^

I know, but think of it as 2 hours gained NOT 2 hours lost. 2 hours shared with me
You do realise that I'm in from 2 till 6 don't you which in reality is 9am to 7pm as I'm at this moment sitting in a box downstairs typing a response to you (after finishing correcting Eloise's CV and cover letter )

I watched it. Don't you think that these ads with men as "sexual objects" work for women? It seems to me they do - but I'm not a woman (did you notice?).
Ads like the famous CK and Wrnagler ads objectify men and play on women's sexual desires too don't they?
Even the nespresso ads do that by using George Clooney instead of someone like me, don't they?
