Ted Talks : Julian Treasure - "how to speak so that people want to listen"
The speech I choose is : « how to speak so that people want to listen » by Julian Treasure.
On this conference J.Treasure try to explain how to talk in differents situation, with different tone and how make people listen to what you said.
He try to explain different habit that all people have when they spoke. He make a list of seven deadly sins of speaking that all people make.
1. Gossip
2. Judging
3. Negativity
4. Complaining
5. Excuses
6. Embroidery, exaggeration => become lying
7. Dogmatism (confusion of fact with opinions )
Julian Treasure give some foundations to help our speach to be powerful. He give the world « HAIL ». Where the H is for Honesty, A for Authenticity, I for Integrity and L for Love.
For the word « HAIL » he give a definition and it’s means to greet or acclain enthusiastically.
With this acronym he try to explain that when you speak with someone (friends, family , or give a speech) you can be heard and your speech can make sense for the others.
After that he explain that for speaking all people have the same « toolbox » but there are few people who really open it. On this toolbox you have register, that is when you adjust your voice in different contest. For example with Depth voice =>power, authority. We have also in this box : timbre, prosody, pace, pitch and volume.
The environnement have an important role when you speak to someone. Speaking in place where they are some of noises for example can't help you to give a good speech, powerful speech.
In summary, on this speach J.Treasure try to explain how we must talk in different situation,or more generally in every day life, and what we mustn’t do when we talk or give a speech. Just use the different tools of the box that can help some people and that can be better for give a powerfull speech and make people listen to you.
