Week 6 - discussion topic - Superhero

I can't remember which group chose which subject this week and I left my notes in Angouleme. So someone remind me!

Thanks Iolina. So who is your favourite superhero and why? Perhaps you can also suggest a new superhero. If you could have any single super power what would you have?

It's about superhero. Which one we prefer and why.

When I was young I had 3 favourites: Batman, The Hulk and Thor. However, I've always loved Batman the most and the recent Batman trilogy - The Dark Knight - I thought was fantastic.
Happily Marvel have also released Hulk and Thor movies too.

I don’t have really a favorite superheroe. Of course I like nice superheroe like Batman, Superman, Spiderman because they help people and they make a world better. But I like too Wonder Woman.
For me, Wonder Woman incarnates feminism and real value that surpass science fiction. Thanks to this heroe there is a real message sent to the society. She was a symbol for feminism and suffragette.
This heroine appears in a time when we asked, the women to leave their homes and take the place of the men went to the front during World War II. Comics in which she evolved showed that they could be superior to men. In late October,the United Nations choose the amazon princess (Wonder Woman) as Honorary Ambassador for the emancipation of women and girls around the world.

My favourite superheroe is Batman. Batman has no superhuman powers but he relies on his own scientific knowledge, detective skills, and athletic skills. He is an expert in espionage, he has got the ability to the self control and mind control. When I was children, I love diguise me in Batman with his mask. Moreover, Batman is a master of disguise. Batman is the most intelligent of all superheroes, he have got a high level intelectual, he is a scientific. His car embody himself. His car "Batmobile" is black, there is lot of gadgets like a space rocket, a computer, a radar... It's just like Batman with his numerous gadget on him.

Hi everyone!
That’s a great topic to me, I love superheroes and comics. Even if they can come from manga’s, I think comics are the base for superheroes. The problem is that I love many superheroes, it’s a “big and hard choice” for me. Already, I differentiate DC and Marvel.
From the DC Universe, I love Batman (like everyone!) and J’onn J’onzz but I think that my preference goes to Dr Fate. Dr Fate isn’t a real person, it’s more like an entity. When you wear the helmet, you don’t possess entirely your body. Nabu an Egyptian entity take partially the place and gave powers and knowledge. It’s a complex hero and his powers are unlimited. He is a great sorcerer and I love characters who possess magical powers. The fact that there are two minds, in one body, who command it’s interesting. I discover him in the anime Justice League when I was a child. Marvel do an equivalent: Dr Strange which I love too. Perfect transition, in Marvel comics, my favourite is Thor, even if I appreciate The Exorcist but I don’t think that you are familiar with him. Thor embodies potency and charism. He is fun, despite himself sometimes, and loyal. He represents different values in which I recognize myself. To choose, I think that Dr Fate wins.

But, I prefer villains.    I find that sometimes heroes are boring or too nice. Antiheroes are cool, just like Deadpool, Deathstroke or Lobo. But the real villains like Dr Doom or The Joker attract me. They have no sympathy, humanity or pity, they put chaos and that’s why I like them. The characters are really interesting, mysterious, complex and dangerous and that’s brought some attention on them.

On other comics, my preferred choice are V for Vertigo comics and Spawn for Image comics. Once again, they are antiheroes even if these editors don’t have many heroes.

Hello everybody !
I'm definitely a fan of Marvel Universe. I'm not a really big fan of comics but I used to read some of them when I was young. My favourite superhero in the Marvel universe is Iron Man. Because he's not a real super hero. He's reall smart and can do anything he wants when its about building something. He can create a new elements ! With Science ! And that's pretty cool !
But let's be honnest I also like Iron Man because Robert Downey Jr is a really good actor and it's a pleasure to look at him when he's playing. I like the character that he made, by being an awful egotic man, because it's really how I'd imagine this hero.
And finally I think that this is what counts, when your imagination is concording with the representation of a character... I mean it works for me !!

There are so many superheroes to choose from and I do not know which I prefer....
I think quite often superheroes are "over done", and too good to be true.

If I had to choose one fictif superhero, it would be someone more like Sherlock, or Thomas Shelby... Intelligent, charismatic, quick-thinking.... but also complete arseholes! Like real people, an equilibrium between good and bad.

However, I also believe that the most powerful superheroes are "real" people - the ones like you and me. The people that construct their lives around little gestures full of love and sharing, who are honest, and are full of imagination, knowledge... The beauty of us, humans,  is that we are also a bundle of imperfections, and complicated feelings (that no one gets at the end of the day). We learn, evolve...love and hurt. We are not some imagined fragment of a film worth millions, that is unreal, and photoshopped....

I'm no idea for my superhero, because that I can't define ''super'', but I have many heros. Firstly, my parents are my heros. They gave my life and taught me to become a human from a living thing. Then they support me in my life, my work and my soul. In the next place, my heros can be the doctor, police and teacher who make my life safe and secure, and who have the ability to protect or change me. Briefly, they are those who are indispensable and make me happier. At last, maybe is our sweetheart or someone I have loved who are my heros. Just because they taught me how to love myself.

But, they aren’t my superhero. I don’t believe the movie star. I know when I have too many troubles, nobody can save me but myself. No one can do everything for me but myself.

The fact that superheros can be the great source of inspiration for a lot of people, is something that I can fully undestand. Most of them are great but as far as I'm concerned, I'd never really been amazed by thoose men and women in tights thought, even if their film and most of their features are pretty dope. However I'm a big fan of superpowers and the thing who excit me the most is the idea to have one more than thinking about my favorite superhero. That being said, my all time favorite superpower is definetly the STAND POWER from jojo's bizarre adventure Series. A Stand is a spirit that you can materialize, to do what ever you want. You can only have one Stand and the features of the stand and even if appearance will depend of the features and the soul of the Stand user (usually a human being or a animal). Means that stands can have various forms, they can have a humanoid form, can looks like a ghost, an animal, a weapon like a gun or a sword, can even looks like a car or a boat. And most cool this about it is the fact that only stand user are abble to see stands, they are invisible for the rest of the masses. Among everystand of the series, my favorite  is "The World" used by the one and only Dio Brando, one of the main antagonist of the jojo's series. His has tremendous close fight abilities and his most deadliest power up is the ability to stop the time during, around 10 minutes, and then finish his opponent!! He has a humanoid form and his design is just breathtaking!!

I'm not a really fan of a specific superhero. When i was young, i read and watch some of superhero story and i like it.  But i have never choose one and say i want to be one of them. Yes, some of them can be an inspiration but never like my mum and dad. Parents must be for all kids there first superhero. They give you every thing you wants, needs, and they were patient when you were sometimes unbearable :p.  And they stand and support you what ever your choices, decisions, etc. I'm aware that all parents are not the same but in general parents are superhero for each kids. I don't say that you can't choice a superhero like iron man, superman, wonder women, etc, of course you can. We all have a child's soul, But never forget your parents !

I've tried hard to decide which superpower I'd like. Gorgeous looks, Incredible intelligence, He-man physique, ultimate sexual prowess - but I have all of those naturally. Perhaps enhanced humour so that I can make everyone Happy - seems the ideal super power for an Arch Villain like me.

More seriously, I did not grow up with superheroe so I don't really know which one I prefer the most. But when I was young, I was a dragon ball z fan. In fact, the characters are like traditionals superheroes : they can fly, they are strong and especially : they save the world. My fav character was Sangohan, the main character's son for only one reason : he had the same age as me when I started to read dbz so I identified myself as him !

I don't have superheroes, even though I loved that younger, particullary the X-mens. But I was very young ! I prefer the bads, they are more intressting. The super heroes are too basics. Batman, Superman, Iron man look like each other. And I think are not a good example for children. I have the impression that comics aim to educate / frame people. They are too symbolics and run the "american" propaganda. Maybe this word is strong but i think it's real. American use the comics for promote USA. I am not communist but it's not normal to manipulate people.

I'm real fan of Marvel's movies except some like Ant-man who is really ridiculous! My favorite superheroes are Thor, Iron Man and maybe Doctor Strange if you have see the movie! If you have not seen the movie, run! Since I was a child I love superheroes, at school everyone thought he was one of them, and even growing, we still love those men! They allow us to dream and to remain child in our head.

I will speak about Wonder Woman which is my favourite super hero. Concerning her history there is a legend, Wonder Woman was apparently set up by her mother : Hippolyte, and the greek gods. Indeed Hyppolite sculpted her daughter and greek gods gave life to the statue. Her name is Diana, she is an amazon princess, not conceived by humans. The mission of Wonder Woman is to promote peace in the world that’s why she fighting evil with a sincere hope to collect the potential on the humanity.

Wonder Woman has several superpowers, she has superhuman strength and resistance, for example she can lift a mega, it matches 1/3 of the planet. About her resistance she can easily survive to extreme temperatures (hot and cold). Moreover, she can fly without assistance. Her capabilities of regeneration make Diana able to repair an injury in few time. She is also immune against poisons and some diseases.

Furthermore, Wonder Woman has some equipments. She has a submissions bracelets, a lasso of truth, an invisible plane.

I like wonder woman because she was created by Dr Marston to encourage a strong female model, she is free and brave. She is fighting against the idea that women are of lower status than men. This heroine motibesfor young girls to succeed in their life.


To conclude, William Moulton said that « Frankly, Wonder Women is psychological propaganda for the new type of woman who should, I believe, rule the world ».

The topic today is super heroes. First of all I think a super hero is not necessarily the one everyone thinks. On people mind a super hero has to be rich, strong, beautifull with some super power , sexy, show off, sexsymbol like Iron Man, Thor or John Cox (the best teacher in the world Leicester style papy ).

According to me a super hero can be what we call an evryday super hero. There is a lots of people who help, who rescue at the expense of their own life. This is the true super hero, People who gives generously without waiting something in returns, altruistic people.
I think evry body can be a supe hero on his own way. You can help an old people to cross the road, give your sandwich to a starving (=affamé) guy, help a trapped animal...  
All this act of kindness, make all of us better person and evryday hero Hero.

I think it's very difficult to choose only one superhero cause I like all type of superhero. But if I need to choose one I’ll choose Flash in X-MEN, this man could faster than all of you imagine, when he run you can't see him he is too fast for eyes. With this speed, he can make a long distance in only some second.
I like his suit cause it was full red (and red his my favourite colour) with only a circle with one flash on the chest.

When I was young I didn't like superhero, who can fly cause I knew it's was impossible to do that I real life, so I prefer hero with capacity that I can imagine in real life. I can't imagine someone which is flying in front of me but I can imagine someone who run very fast, I know that’s could be weird but it's my vision.

First I make a distinction between the two major superhero universe: DC comics and Marvel.En general I prefer the DC Universe, for stories and characters even if a darker universe.
If I had to pick a hero in each universe I would choose Batman for the DC universe. He does not have superpowers and uses his intelligence, his training and his money of course. I agree with you John, the Batman trilogy made by Christopher Nolan is the best of all! I still find the last appearance of Batman in movies related to the Justice league well made and quite loyal to the comics (maybe too much too which makes it hard to understand at times if you do not know).
For the Marvel Universe I choose Iron man, just for the same reasons. It does not have special skills, uses his intelligence, his money and I love humor in movies.

You didn’t like Ant-Man? This movie was so funny and his appearance in Civil War was huge!
I saw Dr Strange; Benedict Cumberbatch was born to perform Stephen Strange! The special effects are awesome and the end credits are so interesting, as usual in Marvel movies!

Can’t wait to see Dr Strange in Thor Ragnarok and in Infinite War. A second Doctor Strange will be realized, with Mordo (the main Dr Strange’ enemies).:

You made a mistake. Flash doesn’t come from X-Men and Marvel Universe. From this universe, the main speedster is Quicksilver that we can see in Avengers 2 (Hawkeye’s shield ) and in X-men Apocalypse and Days of Future Past. The Flash belongs to the DC Universe, and he is one of the founders of the Justice League. Here's a pic with Quicksilver (Marvel) and Flash (DC).

Hello everybody, I'm going to talk about my favorite superhero : Saitama. He is the main caracter of the japanese anime One Punch Man. He is super strong, so strong that he beat every ennemy with only one punch (he is the One Punch Man). The thing that is different with most of the other superheroes is that is don't have super powers. Indeed, he obtained his strenght from a daily training. He was an ordinary employee from a japanese firm but one day, he decided that he was sick of that lifestyle so he decided to give up everything to follow a training. Everyday he ran 10kms, did 100 push-ups, 100 abs and 100 squatting and he became fucking strong. He is so much strong that beat an enemy is just annoying to him. One punch and the fight ends. But, because of his training is became bald.

I like him because he is not like the other superheroes. He is fun because he is jaded by his lifestyle, and when the other heroes of his town are beaten one by one by their opponent, he just come in, hit the guy with one punch and it's done, the guy is dead. He doesn't really don't give a shit, he just want to do what he wants. He is appealing and he doesn't look dangerous at all, but man, he fucking is.
