I decided to change my topic since the episodes are shorter which makes it more convenient because we are getting closer and closer of the exams thus I feel guilty when I watch a tv show. You don't want me to feel guilty, don't you Mr Cox?

TV Show: Community Empty Re: TV Show: Community

This tv show is about a few students in a Community College.
We meet:
- Jeff: A former attorney whose licence has been suspended by the State Bar because it was fake;
- Abed: A boy who has asperger and always thinks he's in a tv show (which is actually true but not in the show);
- Britta: A political committed girl who wants to get a licence but don't have the money to go to a regular college;
- Troy: A former quarterback who broke one of his leg then lost his scholarship in a prestigious college;
- Shirley: A mother who wants to become a business woman;
- Pierce: An old business man who wants to keep in touch with the younger generation;
- Annie: An ex drug-addict (not drug like cocaine or heroine, more like aspirine) who made an overdose and got kicked out of her school;
Some of the interesting expressions/words I heard during the firsts episodes:
"Cheaters never prospere": the english equivalent of: "Bien mal acquis ne profite jamais";
"Busted": when you get caught doing something bad;
"Grabby grabby": you can call that way someone who doesn't give a lot, almost the same as "selfish";
"Dean": The college's boss, like Pascal Chauchefoin now or Olivier Bouba-Olga a year ago;
"What are the odds?": What a coincidence!

In the 3rd episode, the story is about Abed's father who doesn't want to pay for classes that aren't linked with his activty: he owns a falafel restaurant. But Abed, as a great tv fan, wants to follow the cinema class so Britta gives him money so he can do what he wants. But he starts using Britta's money any old how...

One of my favorite scene:
"I have to make some adjustments to my film. Jeff I think you should play the role of my father.
- I don't want to be your father.
- That's perfect you already know your lines." you know, black humor and stuff...

Some of the interesting expressions/words I heard during this episode:
"Giving yourself a pat on the back": Flattering yourself, "Se jeter des fleurs" in la langue de Maulière;
"Cut myself loose": when you stop talking to someone, "Couper les ponts" in la langue de Maulière;
"Throw me a bone": to give a hint, "Donner un indice" in la langue de Maulière;

In the 5th episode, the college will inaugurate a statue of Luis Guzman because he was once a student here so Pierce has to make a jingle for the event. Abed discovers what are jokes, and tries to make Troy believes he's an alien.

Some of the interesting expressions/words I heard during this episode:
- "Savoir-faire": well... something like... savoir-faire. Perhaps they don't have so much on the other side of the sea so they had to steal the word to another country...
- "Creab sheet": or "cheat sheet" is a piece of paper used to cheat. "Anti-sèche" in french
TV Show: Community Giphy;
- "Formal greetings": sentences you use to begin or end an e-mail, a professional conversation... "Formules de politesses" in french;
- "Save my bacon": that's a funny one, this is an expression for saving your life but less important than your life. "Sauver ma peau" in french;
- "Gullible": when you trust too much, when people make jokes but you think it's for real. "Crédule" in french;
- "To flunk": when you fail a test and you have to do it again. Something like "Passer aux rattrapages" in french

crib sheet - the subtitles must have been wrong.

And flunk just means to fail (not to pass again)

Vardy and Mahrez still have it... Kane also though. Good game, this is what Premier League is all about: you can never say who's going to win the game

It was great. I watched it "as live" when I got back. Finished watching about 1 am - which is late for me, especially after leaving for Poitiers at 6:15am.

Great energy, high pressure that's how we play best.

In this week's episode, Abed makes movies where he predicts what's going to happen and Pierce hypnotizes Britta so she can quit smoking.

Some of the interesting expressions/words I heard during this episode:
- "Soothing": you say it about something that gives you peace, like watching the sea or reading during a rainy night, "Apaisant" in french;
- "All sizzle and no steak": when you count too much on what something looks or sounds like without thinking of the inside, what it really means, "Tout dans la forme, rien dans le fond" in french

In this week's episode, Pierce has a girlfriend (who is in fact an escort) and want to introduce her to the group. Abed has better skills in sport than Troy, which is making him angry so he wants to prove him that he still has it. Annie and the dean are organizing an event against STD. To thank her, the dean gives her the "honor" to demonstrate how to put a condom on during the final party.
During the event, everyone got drunk and we find out the condoms are faulty, so the dean asks Troy to run to the office to make an announcement before people starts to leave and starts doing what you can't undo... At this moment, Troy confesses he's not the best athlete on campus, but Abed is. "Attention Greendale students, don't use the condoms. If you're going to have sex tonight, don't use condoms" Abed says when he finally reach the office.

That's it for this semester, thank you for reading me.
