Digital skills : digital marketing (Andrea)

Hi guys !

I choose a course about the digital skills because I think it's very important to know the digitals tools for our futur job.

So, in this topic, I will try to give you some keys and advices to help you to develop your online marketing strategy, your projects, your communication or help you to growth your community and audience .

Before start this useful topic, I want to focus on the one most of important thing in the digital word : the digital footprint.
What's that ? --> It's some information you check about yourself online.
How to do this ? --> Do a Google search of your own name and look what the internet said !

For me, I check Google and I found so much informations about me...
First, my LinkedIn link, this is cool. Anyway I put the link https://www.linkedin.com/in/andrea-arosteguy-b893b4b2/?originalSubdomain=fr if someone wants to recommend me for an internship  

Then, a lot of photos and movies are not always so good to my e-reputation... A video where I did "miss météo" for my job in Hossegor (sorry but I don't want to put the link... ahah)
mmmh I found some photos that I liked on LinkedIn about my internship company or anything else...
A picture where is not me but a friend who tagged me on it.
Some pictures come from Facebook, but it's my profile picture so it's not embarrassing.
BUT there are photos of me when I was so youuung and it's not possible... oh my god I found one with a friend and a glass on my hand....   Theses pictures come from "Skyblog's" friend so I can't delete them... I will have to ask my friend to take off this photos  

After I see my Twitter and YouTube (obviously I will delete the video that I made last year in English class   )
Ooooh, and I found a company who have the same name on me ! A company which makes products from my lovely country    

So, anyway I found a lot of information about me and it's uncool for two reasons : safety and to find my futur job....

Now, I'm curious to know what information you found when you write your name on a Google search ?

I've already google my name because as you said Andrea I'm afraid a recruiter finds stuff on me and my private life !! I totaly agree with you.

The only informations that you can found if I google myshelf is my CV on LinkedIn, my portfolio on wix and a press release of the National Packaging Competition (with my team we finished 2nd !).

Ooh tell me more about the company ! Where is it localised ?!

Mine is such a common name that you can find lots of information but none of it about me. I try to use alternate pseudonyms online.

You ask about the company which have the same name at me ? It's located in Biarritz, a city next to Bayonne in the South-West of the France ! It's beautiful and I invite you to travel in this beautiful country (Bask country) and taste many specialities

Only LinkedIn, ResearchGate or Mixcloud account
But "Massonde" is a well-known family name in South-West due to a uncle who own a delicatessen in my region so some results are also in relation with this.

Today I feel in a nice mood so I go to give you some key benefits of digital marketing.
Like that, if you have an interview and the employer ask to you "What is the benefits of digital marketing?" you will answer that :

1. Allow engagement with customers in real time
2. Enable global reach
3. Brands can further develop themselves and build relationships with clients
4. Messages can be accessed over multiple channels (including computers, tablets, smartphones...)
5. Cheaper than traditional marketing

I hope that tips allow you to succeed your interview

Next week I will present you the different aims of digital marketing with some examples that how the companies use it

Did you learn about the limits or the disadvantage of digital marketing in your lesson or not ?

I think specially about social networks :
I remember in one of my previous internship (concept store for children's products) a customer ordered a product but unfortunately it was sold out. My tutor called her to prevent her and to say as well it will be available at the next delivery (approximately 1 month later). The customer became angry and threatened to write bad comments on the several platforms if it my tutor didn't give her a product for free !!

Anyway, I think it's very complicated and quite stressful for a company using social marketing...

Thus, do you think digital marketing will kill the traditional marketing or not ?

The problem with the social networks is that it's very dangerous for a brand because you can't control what people said about you... You are always checking what's happened and when something like this happened to you, you can give an answer with diplomacy to not undermine the image of the company.

I don't think digital marketing kill the traditional marketing and you have to mix this two ways to have a complete marketing strategy. Indeed, it depends on your target and on your strategy but I think the traditional marketing is still important

Today I give you 5 objectives of digital marketing with some examples

1: Ensure you are reaching out to the right people at the right time and delivering the right message !
Example : when you look a product into any social media (such as Facebook), and you realise that one other ads that you see are about this same product. Why ?? It's because the companies collect information based on what you like and dislike, and also, respond you more favourably

2: Engaging your audience. Indeed, brands can use online campaigns to get people engaged in talking about their products
Example : Domino's Pizza (I know you know this company obviously when they make promotion at thursday and saturday night when the pizza cost only 8 euros for all pizza sizes ) Anyway, so Domino's Pizza reduce the price of their pizza based on the number of people that tweeted in time for lunch (15,99 $ --> 8$)

3: Motivating your users to take action getting people to do things with the brand !
Example : The different actions that you know with Nike --> create your own shoes in a Nike plateform : https://www.nike.com/fr/fr_fr/c/nikeid. The co-creation is now an indispensable thing to make your customers happy and implicated to your brand and also they will be more loyal with your brand.
I will happy if you give me other examples about co-creation

4: Spending efficiently --> spend less but still reach out to a great number of people : so lets go to find crazy ideas to communicate with your customers and give them entertainment and happiness !!
Example : The brand, Beats by Dr.Dre, use a call to action to make a selfie campaign
N.B: A call to action is a message that encourage your audience to act immediately.

5: Creating a ROI --> increasing the money you make as a percentage of the money initally invested trough your marketing campaign.
I don't have example but it's very important that each campaign permit you to win money, to have new customers or to grow the customer's loyalty... The ROI directly talk about money but it's not only about this. You will have other aims like as I said : loyalty, recruitment...

I hope these objectives make you a better digital marketer and give you some ideas to do a great digital marketing campaign !!

More seriously, I find that digital marketing is a really necessary tool for businesses today because it allows them to better target their customers at a lower cost! Obviously all the problems attached to the protection of personal data arise. What do you know about this?

Yes, it hasn't shocked me that you are connected with "Les Enfants du Marketing", I know it because you organise a lot of parties for the CEPE ahah But already in this page you are connected with famous former Cepe's students you know and this is very important for our futur

I agree, today the marketing doesn't exist without internet and you have to know the key to do digital marketing and it's a good thing because as you said it isn't very expensive !

Yes I know, the data is a real problem but you have laws against the companies which use our data without our consent and illegally, like the RGPD's laws. So, don't worry. Nowadays the companies don't have another choice to respect the law because the fines are very heavy financially !

To begin this new year I put in this discussion some types of digital marketing strategies :

1. Display advertising - banner advertising and pre-roll videos
2. Pay per click (a business model whereby a company that has placed an advertisement on a website pays a sum of money to the host website when a user clicks on to the advertisement)
3. Search engine optimisation (SEO) : how to be well-optimized for search engine (Google, etc)
4. Email marketing
5. Social media marketing
6. Content marketing on your website, sites like Amazon, on blogs or press articles
7. Affiliate marketing (is an online sales tactic that lets a product owner increase sales by allowing others targeting the same audience – “affiliates” – to earn a commission by recommending the product to others : https://www.shopify.com/encyclopedia/affiliate-marketing)

I think it will be interesting if you help me to grow up this list to have a lot of strategies and some tactics to do digital marketing ! I'm waiting your idea

I typed my name on google it appears my fb profil link, a fashion image that I liked on Pinterest (its weird), and a lot of beautifull car pictures..

I am really happy that we have the possibilities to not share our informations when we open a web site. But in facebook, when you play at a game just to try it, you can't deleted it. For example, I open big fish one time and now I can't stop to have cookies about it...pfff so I don't like that.

The co-creation is really good to make intelligent product, I have an example :
C'est qui le patron ? (https://lamarqueduconsommateur.com/). This brand allows to choose the next sell product and you have to like one of the packaging propositions on Facebook (color, shape, graphism) so it is a little bit scary...If the costumers make the choice of packaging at our place...
So I think in the digital marketing the work of marketers will be more technic : calculate datas or manage the social interactions on our media platforms.

The ROI is in link with the KPI isn't it ?

Yes, I agree with you, especially on social networks, there is a huge amount of data and sometimes they use it in a bad ways... But as I said, the law will be fix it.

The co-creation is a very good example ! I have spoken about this with Nike's plateform to create your own shoes !
But I agree with you, this strategy should be use with precaution, because if you give too much freedom to people, they can do anything and it will be bad, because your project may not succeed, and this situation can be negative for the notoriety of the company and discredit it.

For example; the game "Monopoly" had left the people to choose the name of the city and make a limited edition. You have an article about it on this link : "https://www.ladepeche.fr/article/2008/03/19/443358-le-monopoly-montcuq-bientot-dans-les-rayons.html" So the city was "MontCuq" and I don't think that was what Monopoly expected but they release and put it on sales.
My advice is if you don't want things like that happened, you have to limit the choices. Indeed, a lot of companies think that people can make marketing and have a good ideas. They can have good ideas but they are not professionals and we don't have to forget it !
So, make answers with pre-established choices and manage people's answers is, in my opinion the key of your successful co-creation
