Hello world,

So, i was speaking with some of you, and one topic that was always brought up while discussing english was the fact that some people really want to learn more vocabulary. As we don't have a lot of english class (unfortunately), i thought it could be a good idea to use this lovely platform to help each other and share vocabulary !

To start, Chloe asked me to share some vocabulary about Economics, so here is a short list about vocabulary I remember in this field :

       Consommation - Consumption
Récession - Recession
Inflation - Inflation
Insolvable - Bankrupt
Faillite - Bankruptcy
Budget - Budget
Espèces - Cash
coût - cost
monnaie - currency
dette - debt
déficit - deficit
dépôt - deposit
subvention - subsidy
taux de croissance - growth rate
ménage - household
intérêt - interest
investissement - investments
pouvoir d'achat - purchasing power
rareté - rarity
pénurie - shortage, lack of
poussée soudaine - spurt
capital - capital
emprunt - loan
emprunt immobilier - mortgage
impôt - tax
droit de douanes - tariff* (yes, with two f)
partie prenante - stakeholder
actionnaire - shareholder
perte - loss
taux de change - exchange rate
biens de consommation - consumption goods
Rendement - output
contribution** - input**
investir - to invest
accroître - to grow
emprunter - to borrow
prêter (argent) - to lend

** basically, an input is anything you can "put in" in order to produce economical ouput (so basically, an input could be capital, land, labor...)

That's all i can remember that is really useful, but if you can think about anything else (or you have a question), please feel free to write in this topic ^^
You can also add your own vocabulary lists, so that at the end, we can gather all this vocabulary at the same place. If you have a particular topic you want to learn vocabulary from, you can also ask me to make a list about this particular topic.
I will probably add some lists I made while I was in Applied Foreign Languages, which were about useful vocabulary to use while translating Smile

Smell ya later Very Happy

Great, I can send you a few vocab lists if you want them. I've done it in previous years but most students don't actually look at them.

Thank you Emeline. I would like to get some vocab lists John because I want to be able to negociate in English and learn more professional vocabulary like this, how to read a contract in English, a resumé, how to apply a job in English, how to discuss about a product, about inflation, increase, news about market sector, etc. It would be so useful for me and maybe for others in the class !

What's up, guys ?

This topic comes at the right time (in French it looked more fun in my head cause it rhymed but in English it doesnt' ... too bad)

I take good note of the vocabulary u are submitting. I must admit that Emeline's suggestions would be useful in a professional context and Amelie's suggestions are more useful in a : FESTIVE context ! AHAH. (W/ u we are ready for discussions day and night. U are so kind for us)

Btw, I abuse this by asking u for vocabulary on subjects more related to sociology, society and politics ?

THX very much for the help u are offering, kisses on your butts.

With all my love. I love you
