So I was watching the French news last week and listening to the unusual story of DSK and his sexual exploits. This led me to think about prostitution Embarassed and I wondered what your views on it are. Should it be legalized in France? Should Prostitutes, Pimps and users be more heavily punished? What do you think of the systems in Holland and Germany? How does it work in China? So come on! Let me know what you think and comment on the thoughts of others.

Seems like mostly country in this word , Prostitution is illegal in China , we are all refuse this services offer by hotel or others entertainment places ,which like KTV ( karaoke) bar , disco ,
many young ladies work on prostitution , but according to the Chinese law , this is prohibit in China cause prostitution will help HIV AIDS to disseminate , and encourage criminals who abduct women , if prostitution is legal, men would be easier to have an improper behavior so it's not good for a family ,although prostitution is illegal , there are many entertainment place offer this special service in China ,
the city called Dongguan in the south of China ( near by Guangzhou) was the most famous city cause of the prostitution

Hi John,

I think prostitution should be legalized in France and in all European countries.
Every man needs sex to live because it's a natural need, some of these men can not find women (no one chose him beauty ... Crying or Very sad ), prostitution is a good solution.

Moreover legalizing prostitution will allow better control of the brothel as in Holland to prevent forced prostitution. The prostitution market is huge in Holland and women make this job because the salary is very high and not by obligation as in France in the "Bois de Boulogne", for example.

PS: If the French government was setting up its own brothel, he could earn a lot of money Cool

Hellooooooo Smile
I’m not sure if the legalization of the prostitution in France is a good solution. Of course, this would provide a better control of the prostitution and more safety for prostitutes… but it will not solve the problem. In fact, problems of violence against prostitutes will continue. The legalization will allow to earn money for the French government but it is not sufficient to put an end to the economic crisis. From an economic point of view, the legalization will not make an apparent difference.
A lot of women choose this job through spite. I find this sad. Nobody should be forced to sell its body for sex. The legalization in France will not stop self-enrichment. The French justice has to be more severe against procurer and human traffics. But human traffic is hard to control even with legalization. Some people will find solutions to circumvent the law.
Moreover, it’s clear that sex is a natural desire but people don’t have to pay for this. Now, there are dating sites which serve to find a person to have sex more than to find the future husband/wife. (and it’s free).
And then, when we talk about prostitution, mostly we talk about women. But why women should be sex slaves? Why not men? Wink (joke)

Hi,John. Razz
In recent years, the prostitution is becoming a popular topic in China particularly in 2014.Just like JingChao said that prostitution is illegal in China. In fact,on 9 February 2014, the government of Dongguan (be known as sex city who is in GuangDong) implement a campaign against porn.In this activity, there were 3033 persons arrested. Although, the prostitution has a certain degree of control,it reduce the speed of development of DongGuan. Because the prostitution is a major economic activity in this city.Besides, the male female ratio is imbalance(more male than female). The sex is a requisite for the male,so if the government overly limit the prostitution activity which can lead to increase the crime rape.
In my view, the government could build up an entertainment public of prostitution and form unified management. At the same time, examining the physical condition for the people who are occupied in the prostitution, which can prevent the most protection against STDs. That's all.
Have a nice holiday.Wink

Hi everybody !  cheers

It is often said that prostitution is the oldest job of the world. This debate is not recent. But, it stays an issue of our society that is subjected to many controversies. How could we regulate this phenomenon and destroy it in the long run ?
First of all, on no account should we think prostitution is a scourge that we cannot fight. Up to a point, we may say that prostitution is a form of commodification of human beings. Indeed, it means renting its body to somebody in exchange for a remuneration.  The prostitute waits often on pimps who supervise its activity and deprive it a part of its remuneration Then, allowing prostitution seems complicated because it consists to accept exploitation of human beings.
However, punishing prostitutes and customers is not the good solution to destroy this phenomenon. The reality is too much complicated to turn a blind eye and punish them. Punishing prostitutes, they will move their activity and practice in more dangerous conditions. After, such customers of prostitutes are disabled or lonely. These persons have a real need of contact human, and it is something that we have to consider. At last, prostitutes are becoming increasingly masculine and young. This is the reflection on declining purchasing power and economic difficulties.
Lastly, I think that we should not accept prostitution because of the moral and ethical aspects. I consider that sex must be practiced by willing persons and must not rely on commodity exchange. However, punishing prostitute and customers could aggravate the phenomenon. I consider we should punish pimps because they are the root of this phenomenon.

Hello,
I strongly believe that prostitution should be forbidden in France. In fact, prostitution in France is not illegal, but only activities around such as brothels, pimping are. I think that women (or even men) doing prostitution, are doing it because they don’t have other choice to “feed their fridge”. The government should propose an alternative to those persons, or help them reconvert into another sector of activity. Anyways, punishments related to brothels, pimping or underage prostitution are not heavy enough, because there are still those acts forbidden by the law. If they were, the fine would have been dissuasive and efficient.
In Germany, prostitution is considerate as a job, but in Sweden it is prohibited. Europe should make a common system, because if it is only forbidden in only one country, people would just have to go to another to bypass the law.

Proverbs 23:27-28, "For a prostitute is a deep pit and a wayward wife is a narrow well. Like a bandit she lies in wait, and multiplies the unfaithful among men."

Hello all,

As Maxime said, prostitution have an utility in the world, and precisely in France. Men have needs and use them to earn money isn't a shame. But if we legalize prostitution it would control prostitutes. They would have rights, and protection against bad customers. Actually, they have nothing and can be exploited by their "boss". They are a disease vector, if they have for example an employment contract occupational medicine can control and secure them.

In my mind, prostitute have nowadays the same status than a lamp. They are objects, not humans, it sucks. We need an electrician, not to enlighten us thanks to a candle. To conclude I'm agree with Simone de Beauvoir who said that in one side the prostitution is an impairment on a woman's integrity when they are used by their boss. But she said that we have to scarify a tiny part of woman to save the biggest part. So we have to control that by legalizing the prostitution.

Hi all,
I think we should seriously consider, if sexwork is work. On the one hand it is a job for prostitutes and their bosses behind it, in fact, prostitutes are vulnerable, they are selling their body, but also endured everyone disdainful. I think we should go to respect them, they are people too, they are engaged in prostitution Bank also pressured life, but also the line is being used by the forces of evil. Government should adopt more measures to protect prostitutes, not just fines to jail like that. The government can actively help prostitutes find work, give them help, so that they resume a normal life, have a decent job. On the other hand, prostitution is not a job, because it does not meet the moral, is illegal. Cool Cool

I think that prostitution isn’t a good way of life, but it can allow to some women (and men) to survive. For this reason, I’m not again the legalisation of prostitution. Furthermore, if prostitution is not illegal, it could be more controlled and it’s a good thing for people doing that. Indeed, prostitutes could be more protect and work in better conditions.
Then, according to me, if DSK (or another political person) was not in this “story”, people don’t speak so much about this, and nobody thinks about prostitution. Everybody (men or women) need sex, not only DSK. Some people haven’t someone else in their life, so prostitutes can be a solution for them.

Hi everyone !
In China, the prostitution is completely illegal, but it doesn't mean that no prostitution exist. In contrast,it appears everywhere.
In my opinion, prostitution is an exchange, the sex-worker sell their labour force in order to earn the money of the buyers. The prostitute is more noble than beggars and robbers. In fact,I don't believe that everyone can pay out all their love in marriage forever,so a whoredom once in a while is better than a love triangle. And you know, it is extraordinary expensive for a boy to marry a girl in China,so a whoredom is more cheaper to solve his 'private' problem  Cool
To be honest, the illegal prostitution is dangerous which refers to the working condition and the physical status of the sex-worker. There is no person who was born to be a prostitute, almost all of them are on the edge of subsistence. If the government forbid them to do this job, the department concerned should arrange them for some other jobs. If not, how to organize and normalize this market is a big problem.

I think prostitution should be legalised, being a prostitute can be considered as a job, there is a service against payment. By legalising this, it permits to create a security framework and pay fees so it will be benefic for our economy. Maybe some people think it is not moral (or ethical), but we can not prevent a woman from renting her body, it is her own property. We should respect freedom of every body, even if it looks shocking. Moreover it is a business with a lot of money, it is impossible to stop it.

Hi John ,
It's really a pity for Strauss-Kahn because he has the possibility to be the president of the party socialiste and then probablement be the president of French now!
(PS: French nostalgic for DSK despite pimping charges, a poll in Le Parisien found 79% of the respondents believed Strauss-Kahn would have been a better president than François Hollande.)

What a mistake he has down . How could it be so grave ? It's a sensitive topic.

Hello, everyone,  Smile
I have search the law in France in the Internet  and found the result that says :Prostitution is Legal; Then Brothel Ownership is Illegal; And Pimping is Illegal. So that's why DSK(Dominique Strauss-Kahn ) is punished so grave in France, because it conserned Pimping . ( I still can't understand very well that why DSK , the director of IMF need to do it ? to earn money? ) Certainly another reason is because of it's identify influence.
However the same systems in Holland and Germany is so different and tolerant than in France. It's sure that there is advantages of economics and disadantages of moral. Then in China , Prostitution and so on are all Illegal.Becauseit is defined as a social practice that abolish the rights of women. the women is often the Vulnerable groupe and it's better to take more protetion.
In anther way of thinking, there is a saying about that prostitution could reduce the numbers of womens to be raped.(Maybe it's true )  And it's more terrible for a women to be raped and even killed by a man criminally ( many cases happens these years) who can't find way to solve his problems.

Hi John,

Prostitution is allowed in France. The client can only be prosecuted if the prostitute is a minor, pregnant or has a vulnerability.
The government wanted penalized customers by imposing a fine of 1,500€ but the Senat has removed the criminalization of clients of the bill.
Personally I am against prostitution, because I believe that it remains a violence against women. In recent years there are women from the East, Nigeria or China, who are forced into prostitution without having chooses. They do so because their families are threatened with reprisals by pimps. These women are treated as escalves.
Prostitution is often said that we must leave because some people live in a affectuelle and sexual misery, but 50% of customers live in couple or are fathers.

That said, do not put in the same boat DSK and prostitute clients. DSK just a restless sexuality and has not been convicted for having prostitutes keep close, he did not know were prostitutes.

Hi everyone
So many supports for the legalization of prostitution, I just want to ask some questions:
1, Will you allow a woman in your family devotes herself to this industry?
2, Are you able to declare that you will marry with a prostitute? Provided that she had admitted her prostitute life, of course, she attends to give up being a prostitute.
3, As a man, your family will accept you to whore? That is addictive things, your wife, children, parents will know sooner or later, the family will be harmony?
It’s so easy to talk about things about someone else. I suggest that put yourself in theirs position, you will see how hard to make the decision.

Hi Siqin, how are you since Quick? Smile

The legalization of the prostitution will permit a better control and protection to prostitutes. I didn't say that the prostitution is a good thing. For my part I think it's disgusting to have got a relation with her. But we must respect the freedom of each person.

As an answer for you:

1/ The majority of prostitutes in France are foreigners (91%) so it's difficult to imagine this situation. But, of course, I won't be proud of "her job" but I will accept her if it's her own decision. If it's a question of money, friends and family can help her.
2/ I think it's a bad decision to marry with a prostitute, except the case if the couple is very "libertin". It's difficult to develop the feeling of love. Maybe it's not true but I think they will be attracted by money and not by love. They want to increase their inheritance.

I think it exist different kinds of prostitutes:
-First: It's their choice, they decided to rent their body during a short time in order to earn money.
-Secon: It's not their choice, they think that it's the only solution to meet primary needs. They don't know other ways to earn money.
-Third: Unfortunately it's frequent, an exploiter acts by the strength, the fear or the manipulation to earn money thank's to them.

And another question: Do you think students are concerned by prostitution?

Hi john, hi everyone Smile
the prostitution is a complex topic to stackle. Some people think that the legalisation's prostitution is a good thing. So, this opinion is not unamimously approved by everyone. For the anti prostitution that will shock the morals. So the world to fall appart. Today, there are many forms of prostitution. On university there is prostitution , on the street there is prostitution, the prostitution is everywhere. In my point of view, if you decide to prostitute you are conscious of this . It is a choice you made .
If one returns to the DSK case , it is free as any man to do what he wants. So why all the fuss about this case that only looks more privacy. To my knowledge there's ever a man died . In short , in my opinion I think he thinks would be better to legalize prostitution . Of all the ways people who practice them are well aware . we know that others will say that it is immoral .yes but now what is moral or immoral men marry them , women marry in them so why not legalize the oldest profession in the world? Very Happy Very Happy Question

Hello everyone,
I totally agree with those students who say that a prostitution shouldn't be legalized in France. There is always a question : who would benefit from this legalization ? The state ? Yes, as long as it would increase taxes collected (if the income in this sphere would be officially taxed). Pimps ? Maybe, as long as their shameful exploitation would become a profitable legal business. But this legalization wouldn't help prostitutes, they would rest slaves in this situation, but legal slaves, their slavery would be supported by the government. Women become prostitutes when they have no choice : whether this is the only way for them to earn money, whether they were victims of trafficking, they are trapped and now they cannot escape. Anyway, the purpose to protect women and give them safe conditions for work wouldn't be reached, everyone would benefit from this legalization apart from those who need to be protected.

Hello !

I don’t think prostitution should be legalized, just because of ethic; it’s a kind of exploitation, a blow to dignity. Both prostitute and customer should be punished. But I don’t think sending them to jail or something like that is good, I think it’s too heavy. A high fine is the best thing, but I don’t really what are the different kinds of punition, so I can’t tell more about that.
But in another way, there are still advantages by legalizing it, economically it’s interesting, it’s just a matter of regulation and protection for the workers. The situation in the Netherlands seems to be the perfect system. And not a long time ago UK get to the 5th position of the most powerful countries, because they introduced the activity of prostitution into their gdp.
And in another way, legalizing it may reduce the impact of mafia and human traffic.

In my opinion, we should have a legalization of prostitution, in the aim to fight the fucking people who exploit womens.
But if we have a legalization, government have to protect more womens. Because at least if a women (or a guy !) wanna sell his body it's his problem... In my opinion prostitution is a right problem when people is exploiting or haven't an other solution for earn money.

Prostitution is a complex topic and it's not recent. I think that I haven't a solution because there is too many variables to take into account. Too many situations. Everybody doesn't become a prostitute for the same reason. Is it intentional or not, forced, the only solution.. I can't judge the women or men for their act. Because after all, even the student prostitution exists.. I just want that they are protected from diseases, violence, instability. I think that the legalization can't be a good solution excepted for taxes.. (LOL) because it leaves the door open to all kinds of excesses.. But regulations, controls can be perhaps a good solution.. The most complicated for this "job" is that lots of things are hidden, complex. It belongs to a kind of black market which is not really known by every one except by the police. And it explains the risky situation of countries which try to find a solution. And consequences can only be visible after.. For example with the brothels in France, in fact with this type of structures the situation was really worse for their safety and out of control from authorities.. But I can't be either satisfied with the actual situation. In Lille, prostitutes are staying in front of the law court. It is paradoxical, right ? But every day when I came back from school , my dear prostitute was always at the same place just on my street corner whatever happens even during the winter .. And sometimes, I could see her hustler . And I can swear that she had no desire for being here.

For DSK to my mind it is another topic. It suffered from treason, plots.. It lost everything without losing no case before the courts. It is also paradoxical. Unfortunately we won't know the truth. And for me, we can be a bad husband but a good president. And lots of people amalgamate.

Hello everyone!
Many students have spoken about prostitution in France; personally I will talk about prostitution in Germany. Since 2002, Germany has legalized the prostitution. However, outcomes about this legalization are disappointing. Germany has become “the European brothel”. The main problem is Germany has legalized without regulate this profession. Now, some prostitutes have up to 60 clients per day. Is-it normal? Of course not! So, Germany must supervise the prostitution.
However, prostitution’s legalization allow Germany to earn almost 15 billion € per year. That’s why, prostitution is a big debate.
