The apprentice : comments session 1 (Children's group)

Hi everybody ! I created this topic in order that we could debate about the Apprentice

For those who weren't in the classroom, find below the synopsis of this TV series :

It is a reality-tv based show in which contestants compete for a job as an apprentice. It aims to recreate the toughest of business environments and tasks for its set of contestants, but it is often very funny due to the incompetence and arrogance of the competitors.
The show began in 2005 and has a US equivalent that kicked off in 2004, with Donald Trump in Lord Alan's equivalent role.
There are celebrity and junior versions of the UK show, too.

During this session, we discovered the candidates and their missions was to buy fruits and vegetables with a budget of 500 pounds and to spend as little money as possible. Then, they had to resell them and make profits. it means that they had to have more money than at the beginning of the mission.

Personally, i find this TV series really irritating because they all clash each other. It is too scripted. Also, they separate the women and men...

And you, what's your opinion?

Personally I like reality TV show, like everyone knows...

In my opinion, TV Show are really crappy. It's showing all the bad stuff of a society. The apprentice for exemple is not good because it's talking about how to be hired by a big business man and you need to fight for it. But at the beginning they separate man an women. I mean in wich world are we leaving ? 19 century ?
We are now able to work together and I think women and man have both thing to bring in a team group.

But that's a funny show to watch just once !

Thanks to the proposal of Aurélie. We watch a reality television program ‘The apprentice’ series 2. There are 14 apprentices at the begging. But there are only one person who will win the job after 12 weeks. During 12 weeks, they can live in a super big luxury house with a swimming pool in London. In every episode, they will be given a task to do. For the first episode, 14 apprentices are divided into two groups : boys’ group et grils’ group. Each group was given 500 pounds :buying the fruits and vegetables and selling them . At the end of the task, they need to double the money. One apprentice from the loser team will be fired. At the end, the girls’ team used just 41 pounds and earned more than 1100 pounds. And the boys’s team just earned 725 pounds.
Like all the reality show, I don’t think that this one is true. The director wants to make it much more attractive. He makes the girls’ team win the game at the end. Why the girls can use only 41 pounds to buy all the fruits (actually, they got most of them for free) ? Because they are girls !!! The makeup, smiling, blinking, sexy clothes … they got lots of fruits and vegetables for free and sell them much more easily. This is quite controversial ! Il does not work well all the time. But the audience like to watch them.

Well, you know.. You don't have to get upset about that ^^ It's just a show, it is the essence of reality TV !
It is made to be criticized and create buzz

Ahahahah luping is addicted to this reality show !
That's also the stuff i don't like about reality show, it's stupid, and misoginist, but most of the population that are watching are girls.
And you get addected watching people life.

This one is different of the other I see because people are here for a job ! So the goal is different and bigger...
The most interesting thing is that they always are clash and cry, so I like it a little, but not as much as Les Marseillais

Yes !!!
I think that that it is a very good well to improve a language. Just like Inés saids that four theories in the course "Consommation enfantine" : spontaneous learning. When your are watching a attractive film or series, you enjoy it. You don not think that you are learning.

That's right. I remembre another one : two women fighting for man. Il seems that they were crying all the time. That's quite awful.

Whilst not a fan of reality tv shows like big brother or the millions of others I have actually enjoyed the apprentice in the past (I haven't watched it for a number of years now). Some of the tasks given are interesting and after the first few shows when the number of contestants reduce, you get to see the personalities and the strengths and weaknesses of contestants.

It's true that there is a lot of misogeny, stupidity, etc... but it is a true reflection of our society. We are fooling ourselves if we think the bottom line for most people in the west isn't money and success. The majority of people are not nice and often nice people fail to succeed because of it.

Alan Sugar (or Donald Trump) are quite repulsive but they most certainly are "playing" a role in order to maintain viewing figures and increase their own revenue.

I think the programme offers a lot for discussion and has some interesting "business" angles too.

It was pretty cool as series to watch ... especially when women are more enterprising to sell fruit ...

The only thing I could remember about this show is that it reminds me a series that was broadcast on French TV and that used the same principles. But it was not necessarily more scripted than the American version.

On the one hand, there are men who work in a totally respectable way, and on the other hand, women who are ready to use any part of their body to enhance themselves, and this becomes somewhat limited for my part. Unfortunately we did not all with the same attributes ... :'(

- OR Boys being so obsessed by boobs they give loads of fruits for free ?  


And, aside from that, the boys were totally useless anyway !!!!

And, aside from that, the boys were totally useless anyway !!!!

They did not just smile ... But they are quite right to take advantage of these benefits. But I find that unfortunately it gives a pretty bad image. Especially at a time when women want more and more recognition...

Can we continue to watch them next time ? I like the apprentice. Maybe the series happening in another country ?^^

There are US and English versions for sure, perhaps Australian too.
