3rd topic!
Hi everyone. You have 2 weeks for the third topic but I'll put it up now in case you get bored over the "vacation" week.
There will be 3 topics you can choose 1 or comment on all 3.
The first is Innovation. I'll leave it at that.

Re: 3rd topic!
For me Innovation is ...
INNOVATION = Something new???
Technically, “innovation” is defined merely as “introducing something new”
But something new is not enough for the definition of innovation. There are plenty cases where something new has no new value. For example a new color of a product doesn’t change the performance or the quality of the product so it's not innovation.
It must create value to be considerate like innovation. The creation of new products implies the creation of wealth or social welfare.
Innovation could be a innovation of process, of product, or of service.
INNOVATION: a mean to be competitive
With globalization companies must increased their competitiveness.
Innovation represents a strategic tool. Indeed, to be competitive companies must differentiate themselves from others. Innovation can distinguish a company from its competitors.
There are different models of innovation.
An innovation of product allows to sell high value-added products and to sell at higher prices.
An innovation of process permit to rationalize the production and therefore it permit to reduce costs production. For example new machines increase productivity and efficiency...
Managerial and organizational innovation can rationalize organizational costs within the company and permit an increase of effectiveness.
In fact innovation increases the performance of company.
It's for that Innovation has a central place in our economy.
That is why governments attached a great importance to innovation. Because innovation is synonymous of wealth creation. They think that more innovation will increase economic growth and therefore GDP. They also hope that the economic growth reduce the unemployment rate.
There are public policies that promote innovation as the development of competitive cluster research centers.

Re : 3rd topic !
Firstly, a short definition... So, innovation means make something better (a product or a service) or find a new processus which aim is to ameliorate the life. Most of the time, we use this term for business but we can use that for another sectors like social for example.
We are more concerned by business than other areas so, I will speak about innovation in business... Companies must to innovate to stay competitive. There is a lot of competition between firms, they have to keep their consumers and this one is more and more demanding. To stay in the market, companies must to find all new things to make their customers happy. Aim is give desire to buy something new, so they invest in R&D. They can innovate by a new design or range of products. One of the better innovation is new technology. In fact, technology progress is the cornerstone of innovation.
For example, France is a good model of innovation. In fact, our country is the leader in start-ups and innovative companies. There are three main points to explain where France is innovative and competitive.
Firstly : France is innovative
- France is ranked 2nd in Europe and 6th in the world for the number of international patents (WIPO, July 2013)
- Thomson Reuters’ Top 100 Global Innovators 2014 say : France ranks 3rd with 7 of the most innovative companies or research centers (Alcatel-Lucent, Arkema, CNRS, CEA, IFP EN, Safran and Saint-Gobain).
- In Deloitte Technology Fast 500 EMEA, France remains the leader with 86 companies in 2014 including Weezevent (overall winner), Visiomed, Energie perspective…
- With 9.2 researchers per thousand labor force in 2011, France ranks among the leading countries in the world. (OECD , 2014)
- France is the 3rd leading recipient in Europe of foreign R&D investments. (EY, 2014)
- France is first in Europe for the number of business startups (Eurostat)
- Paris is home to 4,000+ tech start-ups and has the largest incubator in the world, Halle Freyssinet, with more than 1000 star-tups.
Secondly : The French Tech
- This major initiative stimulates French and foreign startup growth. €200 million have been invested in private-sector initiatives (accelerator programs).
- The French Tech had a very strong presence in SXSW 2015 in Austin, and France was the most represented international country in the CES 2015 in Las Vegas.
- 2 French Tech Hubs are based in the US in Boston and San Francisco.
- Foreign startups are eligible for €30,000 of funding with the “French Tech Ticket”.
Thirdly : A Start-up friendly environment
- France has the largest R&D tax credit in Europe, which covers 30% of all R&D costs up to €100 million, and is 5% above this threshold. This tax benefit for innovative companies totals $69 billion.
- France is first in the EU for Venture Capital Investment for Startups with €384 million (Eurostat) and has the second largest VC ecosystem in Europe (US$1.2 billion in 2013).
- Young Entrepreneurs Initiative (YEI) is the French-American accelerator for innovative American start-ups looking to explore opportunities in France.
- A $65 billion National Investment Program aims to underline the competitiveness of the French economy by increasing growth potential. $300 million invested to stimulate the creation and development of French digital companies in France and abroad.
- A further €12 billion will be spent on research and the energy transition, future industries, aerospace, the digital sector, healthcare, technological excellence, and education/training.
- 71 innovation clusters gather universities, private companies and research centers… 17 cooperation projects with American partners are already in place.
NB : I quoted USA because the country have the leadership in business all over the world. But we can notice that French model has a big influence in american model.

Re: 3rd topic!
Innovation is synonymous with innovation and progress.
There are several kinds of innovations;
- Product, introducing a new well in the market ...
- Process new or improved method of production or distribution ...
- Marketing, changes in the placement or promotion of a product ...
- Organization of the workplace or the external relations of the firm ...
Innovation has advantages for businesses, but innovation can also have negative side, it can lead to serious consequences if it's not well managed.
One can also highlight creative destruction, it's a process in the economy, which occurs simultaneously. The disappearance of certain activities related to the creation of new ones. For example the creation of the computer terminated the Minitel. This phenomenon leads to plant closures, new creations, job losses but also other creations of another level. Innovation often requires expertise more accurate and therefore more qualified jobs. This explains the extension of the period of study, we must be able to adapt, and currently flexibility is an essential skill.
Today innovation is vital for companies to remain competitive. Indeed globalization weakens the companies that remain on their achievements.
Moreover, people always want more, the perpetual dissatisfaction in some countries drive for innovation to improve the lives, for example the autonomous vacuum cleaners, mobile phones and smartphones ...

Re: 3rd topic!
Innovation is to bring something new in order to ameliorate an object, a system or a program that already exist.
It’s used especially for technologies, for example in computer industries, Intel and AMD create more powerful processor (CPU) which are more efficient than the former editions, In fact the ability of computer raise significantly and we can treat heavy data, and run heavy software.
More of the games in next gen console (ps4, Xbox one) requires high configuration if they are installed in a computer, they need a icore 5 processor at least to support the graphic quality , games are now more realistic and reach the reality.
So innovation is part of human advanced history, we are now in a life which depends on technologies, we use computer, internet every day, even for sensitive things like checking our account online.

As an economy student, the word 'innovation' appears frequently on the articles relative to economy especially when we talk about the strategies and evolution of a company. Innovation means the creation of something new or something different. For me, innovation is an attitude, a leading spirit to be creative and to be ambious to learn more.

Re: 3rd topic!
In the entrepreneurial environmentt, innovation is becoming more and more important to achieve success. We can define innovation as exploitation of new ideas leading to the creation of a new product, process or service.
Because of the factors such as globalization and outsourcing, it is highly important to improve effiency and effectiveness of organisations. It is not just the invention of a new ideas that is important, but it is actually putting into practice and exploiting it in a manner that leads to new products, services or systems that add value or improve quality. Demands and expectations of customers are growing constantly. Nowadays, we are used to there are a large number of companies, which daily coming up with new products that make our lives easier.
Even companies which don´t have to change or innovate their products, because of long tradition and standing clientele, may use innovations in their favor. And they really should because of economic. Thanks to new technologies they could increase profit. Isn´t really the main reason to make a business?
To conclude, I think that nowadays companies can´t operate successfully without innovation.

Re: 3rd topic!
I see that everyone has talked about the economical aspect of innovation so i'm going to talk about the social aspect it creates.
Today, innovation is a word used for everything… what i mean by that is that 30 years ago when people talked about innovation they talked about the coming of internet and today when a simple mobile app is launched it’s considered as an innovation too so it has lost sense… Of course today with all the things that have been created it’s impossible to create such huge innovations and i don’t think we’ll ever see something as big as internet unless for exemple someone finds a way to cure all cancers. But then again, i’m not trying to say that today's innovations are useless, and i think that it is a great thing because it’s like the world is getting better and better so companies with the help of governments must continue to innovate.
However, for some people innovation can be scary because it can go against their habits or ways of thinking. For exemple, today the French government wants people to claim their income online so they can save a few million dollars which is a good thing but for people who have ben used to fill out papers for more than 30 years it can be seen as a bad thing, and there are also people that still haven’t got internet so it show that even if innovation is a great thing and it creates excitment not everybody want or can use them

Re: 3rd topic!
A modern society, I mean society of these days is addicted on continual innovations. After an invention of new product, consumers even at that time expect an another one to be brought on the market. We are living in infinite circle.
I am not saying, that innovations are not useful. In some industries they can really bring a change in human's life, in several cases even save it.
I just see many disadvantages of this phenomenon. Let's take a technological development as an example.
When I was a child, I was spending my whole free time out with friends. My mobile phone served me just to phone my parents.
A generation of these days takes mobile phones and other electronic products as a source of entertaiment. Children often forget about real life behind the walls and about true values.

Nowadays competition is increasingly strong, with globalization, the specializations of countries in matters of production. Innovation can create value added, essential especially in developed countries, production of goods and services in developed countries is mainly a high value added and innovation must be key to maintain this level.

Hi everybody.
I'm gonna talk on the point of view I have on Innovation.
Innovation is what make people grow, it's what make people and life better. It's a basis point of the economic growth of a company but not just. Innovation permit new ways of life, a better health for an increasing number of people, a better life. Today, people live with things they didn't have before, and if some people think that innovation lead people to be dependent of these ones, it really bring our lives to an better level of comfort. Innovation is the aim of every people, everybody can innovate and make is life better than before. Innovation is not just researching new objects, new way of practising medicine, but it's also researching a better way to manage people in a company, to use the ressources to not waste them, or to product sustainable energy to save our planet. Innovation means progress, and humans are not perfect, so they need to progress, in everything.

Re: 3rd topic!
Hi everybody
According to Steve Jobs : “Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.”
For me innovation doesn’t sounds like this competitive way of think …
Innovation is more synonymous of future, genius and creation.
Today this word is use any time at any moment. Every companies wants to innovate and to put foreground their abilities to create something new, something which could maybe come the innovation of tomorrow.
Many people see the innovation through the new technologies. But innovation is every where. It could be a way of life or a way of think. Innovation can take many forms!
For me innovation is the way to make thing differently that the other. There is of course a part of creation but the spirit is to have a different conception of what you do. From this idea, innovation could be generated by anyone!
Thus innovation take a big part of our life. The question is : Do we have to focus on this process and make everything in our power to get innovation or be aware of what is around us and progress with what we already have? In my opinion, we have to pay attention to our environment before jump in this process. Seize the day and don't look for create the future, if not you will never live this one!
Bye

For me Innovation is the Li-FI :
Switching light to connect to the Internet , in summary this is what the Li-FI promised. There appeared a decade , this technology is regularly presented as a replacement for Wi-Fi , against which it would be safer . But Li-FI remained confidential. The data transmission is only in one direction and the system remained dependent on LED lighting, not yet widespread . But things are evolving rapidly ...

There appeared a decade , this technology is regularly presented as a replacement for Wi-Fi , against which it would be safer . But Li-FI remained confidential. The data transmission is only in one direction and the system remained dependent on LED lighting, not yet widespread . But things are evolving rapidly ...

Hello evreyone !
Today I will speak about an inovation who will change the life of adventurer people !
I saw on the intenet a new kind of tente who permite to sleep outside with a temperture of -30 degres ! Yes minus 30 degres ! This new tente is made with many step of goose feather and it keep the heat inside. The body heat warm the tente and all the materials like goose feather keep the heat inside.
In the developpement of this inovation and for an utilisation in trek or another expedition, they have to fight with the weight problematic. The aventurer are everytime looking for new equipent with less weight as possible. And this tente have a weight of 4,5 KG and it's too much for all the expert who will prefere buy another tente and have night mre colder.
It will change the life of all of us who travel during the winter and it will make possible new kind of trip but it could change the life of homeless people who sleep outside every days ! Several of them dies during this season and now wee have technicly another solution to reduce the mortality !
The probleme will be the cost ! To the moment we have no idea of the price but wee can be sur that it will be clothe to 1000 Euros... I'm not sur that authorities are ready to spend all this money to save life

Re: 3rd topic!
Hello, i'm angry I posted a comment yesterday and it disappeared.
As i said I work in collaboration with the SPN (Les Profesionnels du Numérique) and their goal it's to bring support to little innovative business (Start up).
as we can see on the ranking of top 100 innovators, there is 10 start up from France,
I decided to speak about two of them:
The first one is " Giroptic" The creat the first camera 360 degrees : the aim ? To recording not only the view of the person taking the video but also what happens in the back. if you watch the video that follows only your smartphone or tablet you would replace the Cameran and you will move up and down and left to right to see everything around you . It is like if you were in the video.
The second one is " Smart me up" also a french smart up: The create a software able to analysis real time face on video.
The software is able to " characterize " an individual, to define its demographic profile , or to identify it in some cases, through face reading . Its potential is enormous. " It will be possible to define what type of public terminal uses a store, or know who consults an advertisement to adapt its content,
It is also conceivable connected objects ' intelligent ' who would be able to automatically recognize that passes nearby . " Or a camera that alerts a driver when he starts to fall asleep.
This one could be really important.. For example : the software would have allowed the families of victims to know in real time by analyzing the video if their loved ones were alive , injured or dead ... during the attacks in Paris..

Re: 3rd topic!
Since the beginning of time, innovation is the heart of the human development. Each civilisation took part in the development of the world. It helped them to improve their lifestyle and to evolve. Those days, innovation takes a bigger part in our life because it goes faster. Each year, the technologies get better, our lifestyles change quickly and the differences between people become more significant. As an example, when I was born, in 1995, each people did not have a cell phone or a computer. Internet was not developed as today. More importantly, innovations enable a lot of progress in medicine. To conclude, we can say that our world is made by innovations.

Re: 3rd topic!
Innovation is essential in today's world. It enables companies to be more competitive: they can offer better prices, better products and improve their management. This is also interesting for the consumers who can benefit from the lower prices and better quality products. The third part that, in my opinion, benefits from companies' innovation is the country where they are located. Good innovations means higher profitability. That means higher GDP for the country and better image. A country that has innovative companies is more attractive for investors for example than others who don't.
Companies are not the only ones who can bring innovation. Groups and individuals can come up with innovation from which the society can profit. They can think of new ways to make people lives' better, whether it is for commercial purpose or not.
I think, in conclusion, that innovation is always a good thing for all parts of the society.
