I'd never seen this ad. I think the idea is good but I'm not sure in practice it has worked. It hasn't stopped me wanting to eat chips, in fact I now want a chip when I didn't before looking at the ad.
Maybe they should have shown an obese person smoking a french fry.

Even that I'm not sure it would do something on people, like americans would think "great a food contest"

You're probably right.
Do you think they would need to disgust us? To link an image to a food so that we felt ill even to think of eating it?
Re: FOOD and Industry
I'm not sure of that, it would have to be with insects or something like that, but we're not used to eat that so...
I tried to search some pictures, and it was a bad idea, don't click here if you wanna sleep tonight !

They are very good at marketing and their sponsorships are very well planned but is their product any good?
Has it made you buy their drink?
Re: FOOD and Industry
Food and marketing ? Well, Coca Cola is doing well for decades so i guess we should take them as an example when it comes to food and marketing ! But we also have to think of all the company who failed doing a proper commercial or communication campaign ! Just what we saw today in Inès' lesson with Rice krispies (is that the right spelling ?). They tried to make something like actimel, which was half of medicine and half food, and they failed. But i keep seeing TV commercial like that and i don't understand. Did the guys who make those things studied somewhere ? Or do they just take drugs to make ads ?

There are so many ads on TV where we (I) go "Why?" or "What a waste of money"

Hahaha no ! I'm not a huge fan of energy drinks, but I think for younger people like teens or even tweens it has a good impact on them.
If only brands that are proposing healthy food were allowed to have communication's campain our screens would be free of all food tentations !

Love the Mouse ad. Nearly cried.
Muscleman was cool.
Koreans - there's nothing like them - anywhere.

I would like to have your opinion about this ad because when I watched it. I was a little bit shocked. It was a campaign against obesity in Australia.

Yes gaelle I agree. do you think that ad which use emotional contain like they do in this ad is a good way to protect children against obesity. It is not a little bit exaggerated to use the fear to put across a message ?

Re: FOOD and Industry
Yes but they should have or find other ways to convince people. Fear is not the better way and I think that subject like obesity is a serious subject so the message is important and convincing by itself. No?

The whole work of a publicist isn't as easy as it seems
But it's true that nowadays more and more ads are using shocking and violent things as a way to communicate but I fear consumers won't care anymore in the end...

I didn't think too much to the ad. It was trying to shock, trying to make adults reflect on the dangers of .....food!
Can we really equate addictive drugs with (junk?) food?
We need food to live, we don't need drugs.
The problem with drugs are their addictive qualities, are we saying that junk food is addictive? I ate junk food as a young man, I don't now, I didn't become addicted, I didn't need to go cold turkey etc...
If I went out for a McD now I wouldn't start a new craving for junk food.
Is it better to have junk food rather than no food?
So, basically I think this ad is a fail for me as well as the marketing philosophy behind it. If you want to stop kids eating junk food, then educate the parents or force the junk food companies to make their food healthy or push the taxes on junk food up real high!
How do you stop people taking cocaine? By showing them someone taking Heroin? Of course not.
Re: FOOD and Industry
Yes' i Was really shocked with this vidéo too
There is other way to communicate about obesity and conséquences
The fact to compare toxic drug and drug food it is à good way because both concern an addiction
But on first time you don't understand the topic
I asked myself what Was the purpose ? Euthanasie, diabète or an other disease ....
This advertising have to be compréhensive by everyone, young People too. And it think the message is not really easy to reach

Hello Guys ! Who has watched the documentary "Super Size Me". It's a documentary about a man who eats at Mc Donald during one month and we can see the evolution of his weight and of his health. It's very well made.
