Some of you have continued to write on the forum and I can see the work you have done. Others have written to penpals and some of you have done nothing Razz I would like you to either post here or send me an email summarising the work you have done, assessing whether it has been beneficial to your English or not and suggesting alternative ways to do written work that are interesting and productive that I could consider for next year. 250 to 500 words please. I will put a deadline of March 31st but the sooner all students have done this the sooner I can send out your final mark for the semester.

Thanks for being a great group of students and good luck with your internships and the future. Maybe I'll see you next year.

Post by Laure Tue Mar 29, 2016 11:15 am

Ok I already told you what I did for my written work but I have others things to say (I always have something to say Smile )
I liked the way we did the second semester. Oral presentation especially, I think it was a really fun morning and we learned a little bit more about each others. Two classes of TOEIC preparation is enough and necessary.
Thanks for being a great teacher. Listening you is beneficial to my English and really pleasant. I hope next year, we will see your STAPS students pictures or how about a class showing all the pictures they ever send to you?! Can't wait!

See you next year!

Hello John !

This semester I have written (very) long emails every week to a friend. Her name is Melanie, she is a New Zealander student, currently a teacher trainee. This has allowed me to practice my written English on a regular basis, and to learn lots of new things. I love this idea of having a penpal! You should definitely suggest this idea to your future students. I also have done the homeworks you gave us, especially the TOEIC ones (a bit late I'm sorry), and they were very helpful, I was glad I could train before the mock TOEIC.
I had to type my resume in English, for which I thank your proofread again. It was great that you gave us a lesson on how to do it, with all the documents. This is definitely something you should do again next year for the M1.
As I told you on the forum, I practice English every day, and mostly oral comprehension thanks to videos, movies and series I watch in original version, even in theater when possible. For instance I watched Batman vs Superman this weekend. Some places (like Bordeaux) have way more options when it comes to original versions.
I spend a lot of time on YouTube every day, especially on TED's channel because their talks are so interesting and critical. This also helps understanding international accents, because, thanksfully, speakers are not all Americans. I love discovering new points of view and learning new things. I'm very into informative videos, because they develop my knowledge in the subjects I cherish the most: environment, animals, human rights, minimalism, etc.
Being on the Internet every day, I read posts written in English, be they on blogs or social media. And I've read two American books since the beginning of the year. I think that's it, I do my best to get better, the next step is this six-month placement in an English speaking country! I wish I could find one in an association or an ethical company!
Now I cross my fingers for the TOEIC results! That would be disappointing if I had a better mark at the mock exam.

Hope we will see you next year! Smile

Hello John,
i told you yet what i've done during this semester and what i'm gonna do during the internship period. I really enjoy the way you teach, just fun and practice, that kill the scary and hardly english feeling. I my opinion we should start TOEIC preparation in September why not two time per month or just once but i feel not to much prepare to do it last week. Anyway i loved the idea to get a Pen Pal but i think it's need a school setting for staying serious and instructive. I really loved to play time's up in English and win against Yara the bad player Wink.
Well i wish you a great summer with Marge ( your pet not Marjorie Laughing )

Hi John !

I feel lazy... hahah I already wrote a message in the forum to tell you what I did. I really enjoyed writing in the fotrum, especially the one about the series. I think you can motivate students in writing in english if they are speaking about movies or series Smile
As for the rest of the year I don't have much to say, I liked the opportunity you gave us to choose between working the TOEIC or not.
Maybe we should do more oral expression, why not trying impro game or someting like that ?

I'm not sure to be there next year, but if it's the case I'll be happy to have you back as our english god teacher ! Wink

Have a nice holiday, I bet you'll miss us !! Wink

Hi John!!

To begin with, I have to say that I prefer this semester than the last one, mainly because I think that this one was more dynamic. I liked the topics we chose for the discussions and the debates. I found really interesting the TOIC test and the videos we did for the final grade.

One of the things I liked the most was that we had the freedom to write in the forum about everything that crossed our minds. Thanks to this it was easier and more motivating to write about different topics. I found it very cool to be able to share with all of you a little bit of my culture. So, every time I wrote about Colombia you can be sure that I was pretty happy. In the same way, I enjoyed reading my classmates’ points of view and all the issues they shared with us.
BTW I really loved the story you told us about the origin of your son’s name. It made me laugh a lot.

On the other hand, what I didn't like very much was the fact that we were split in two groups: let's say that there were an “advanced” group and an “intermediate” group. It is true that the “intermediate” students could slow down the whole group, especially the “advanced” students. However, I believe that this could be a challenge for us too and that this could be a perfect opportunity to improve our communication skills faster. So basically what I’m trying to say is that I think that it could be more beneficial if the groups were mixed.

Finally, I want to thank you for this year and for all the effort you did to make of this a great class.

Hi John !
As I said, I was on interpals but it was always the same thing : Hii how are you? I'm fine thanks and you? What do you study? Where do you live? Blablablabla You're very pretty ! Have you a number or a facebook ? So, I chose to stop interpals and I start to write an other time in the forum. I think it's a good idea to do that because it’s very important to practice English every week. Anyway, I watch all my series in English now (with the subtitled of course and don’t forget, the 24th Abril, the new season of Game of Thrones starts again !! I can’t wait to watch a new episode).
To be honest, I think it was the best class of English in my life. It's not a joke and it's not to be nice with you and to have a good mark that I say that ahahah. Before, it was always questions about a text... So boring !! About the TOEIC, I must admit that I'm proud of my result Very Happy. The first TOEIC I made, my score was 620.
Moreover, to make a video was great ! We had laughed a lot with Marine. And, the game with the cards (I don't remember the name) for the end of the first semester was a good idea !
Enjoy the time without us and see you next year !

Hi John,

i tried to use Interpal and of course, i create my profil, share information about me and start chatting with "interesting" people over the world.

Unfortunately,  a lot of conversations talk about "People facts" with comments like "Did you see Kim Kardashian pictures on Instagram"? "She is preety isn't it ?"

But i don't care of that !

So i decided to log out  of this website because i have a "bad experience" but i'm sure that it's will be different if i re-use this website an other time.

For improve my level in english , i prefer to write on the forum and i write a script for my presentation.

Also i watched a lot of documentaries on Youtube (without subtiles in French) about subject like technology , ecology,  transhumanism, university of singularity, Data Center, Hackers, Linux, privacy and of course the fabulous documentary  "Triumph of the nerds" by Robert X Cringely   that i recommand you to watch (talk about sillicon valley sucess story firms)

Also, i listened a thousand of songs in English in particulary Aretha Franklin (she is my prefered singer) and also, I can't wait to watch the season 2 of Mr. Robot. Of course, i need to watch more TV series but i prefer documentaries, the reality is better than fiction !

Anyway, Thanks a lot for this fabulous year John and i  happy  to see you next year !

Don't wory John, for improve my level in english,  i decided to go to London for 1 week (for see my uncle and his wife at  Enfield) in July and see my team   at Old Trafford at the end of August for 2 days!

Well Glory Man U and take care of you John ! See you next year !

I've done all the marks - a few people haven't told me about their writing work so they lost the points for that. I'm just waiting to see whether I can give Jordan an Absent (justified) mark for the TOEIC or whether it's a zero which obviously changes his final mark a lot. I've written to Sandrine and Olivier and I'm waiting for a reply.

Hi John,

As I said in an other topic, I'm on penpals. I spoke with a dozen people from different countries (england, iceland, australia, germany). I shared a lot with two Icelandic (Niraya and Daniel). One of my biggest dream would be to trip to this country, so I asked them for some advice and what to do there. The problem on penpals is that the majority of exchanges revolve around the same subjects and stops after a few questions, so it's hard to build a relationship with people.
I also watch some series to improve my English level. I watched the last season of the walking dead, house of cards, and I just start to Better Call Saul and Sense 8. I watched videos on youtube every day, vlogs and tutorials, always in english.
Then I went to London in February for a week, I talked with several people. We spoke about photography, about our life, and what we were currently doing in London.
I also regularly use the application Duolingo.
