Gotham - Tv serie

I'm not a really big fan of series. Indeed, I never look at, as my family. However, one of my friends spoke to me about a new programm; Gotham.

Being a DC COMICS-lover, especially Batman, I was very interested by this show. In fact, I'm in love with the sinister and dark atmosphere of this city. Batman must fight against bribery, and mainly, against villain, of all types. Moreover, the last trilogy " The Dark Knight " is a masterpiece. The Joker incarnate by Heath Ledger was incredible (He won an Oscar and also a Golden Globe). So I decided ton watch this serie.

In Gotham, we tell us adventures of the famous police chief Gordon and, we redraw the birth of crimes pictures like Catwoman, The Penguin, Mr Freeze etc... At that time, Bruce Wayne alias Batman was 13 years old.

First episode (season 1): Bruce Wayne

During a night, in a little street of Gotham City, Thomas and his wife Martha Wayne, millionaires, are held up and killed by a criminal. All this, in front of the eyes of their 12-year-old son: Bruce. Moreover, a robber, Selina Kyle (Catwoman) witnesses the scene. This incident marks the starting point of this Tv serie where the intrigue and all the characters are going to gravitate.

In charge of this affair, detectives James Gordon and Harvey Bullock question the child. Both policemen discover the man who murdered the couple. He is killed during his escape. However, Gordon realizes that this guy was innocent and had been paid to cover an enormous secret. It’s a subterranean war between Fish Mooney and the Falcone family, to take control of Gotham. Furthermore, The Penguin, also wants his slice of the cake. Unfortunately for him, his boss decided to kill him. But the happiness of his misfortune, Gordon has to execute the judgment, but it’s not a corrupt. Then he covers up Oswald's death, allowing him to flee.

This tragic event thus becomes the common trait to all the characters to the Batman Universe, but also the central theme of this serie to know which really organized the murder of the Batman’s parents........

Episode n°2 (season 1) : Selina Kyle

This episode produce to us the portrait of Catwoman, propelled in the heart of a kidnapping affair of street children. She also is a victim of an abduction lead by a criminal named Dollmaker. Brilliantly, she will get the better of this situation with the help of the Captain Gordon. The latter engages in double dealing. Indeed, after his Oswald Cobblepot's false murder (The Penguin), he persuades all, his affiliation in the system, but wants in reality to clean him from the inside.

In the course of this episode, we also discover Oswald's real face, scattering dead bodies behind its passage. To note, the first experiences of Bruce Wayne, who tries to fight against his fears. In this dark and sinister atmosphere, secondary characters are on the rise, leaving James Gordon and Harvey Bullock in the background.

Finally we don’t know more about the main the intrigue, the "war" between Don Falcone and Fish Money, until the last appearance of Selina Kyle alias Catwoman. At the end of this history, we are plunged into a discussion between the young woman and James Gordon. She is going to reveal him an essential information about the murder of Bruce parents…

Episode n°3 (season 1) : The Balloonman



This episode is separated in three parts:

- Jim Gordon vs Gotham City.
- The return of Cobblepot, nicknamed the Penguin
- the young Bruce Wayne, who begins to be interested by justicer methods

These 3 pieces are connected thank’s to an important event; Balloonman’s murders. It’s an anonymous upholder of the law who defends his own justice, because for him, that of Gotham is corrupted.

The police discovers this criminal during the Danzer investigation. Ronald Danzer was a businessman who swindled numerous people, that’s why he was handcuffed by the Balloonman and taken in the air by a meteorological balloon. It’s the trademark of its killer.
So, Gordon and Bullock investigated into this affair. Accumulating clues they caught the man and imprisonned him.

In parallel, inspector Gordon thinks having solved the affair about the parents of Bruce Wayne, thanks to Selina Kyle's revelations. But the girl trapped him and she fled.
Moreover, concerning the " fake assassination of Cobblepot " the agents Montoya and Allen, competitors to Bullock and Gordon, learned of this news and looked for proofs to accuse the hero of this serie.

On his side, Oswald Cobblepot returns in his "house"; Gotham. He is hired in a restaurant, a place where he will unite with the maffioso Sal Maroni (an enemy of Fish Mooney and Falcone). So, the Penguin tries to take revenge against his murder … The episode ends with the Oswald's unexpected visit in front of Gordon's apartment. Maybe an alliance between the detective and the Penguin? We'll find out in the next episode…….

Episode n°4 (season 1) : Arkham

This episode illustrates the conflict between two mafias in this city, through a real estate war around the famous place; Arkham. In the future, this mythical area will accomodate all the dangerous enemies who face to Batman.

The maffiosos reign to Gotham City. In fact, they don’t hesitate to hire a killer to arrive at their end. James Gordon thus has to investigate into a man who uses a blade to commit his murders. With his companion Bullock, he sees that his murders hide a real estate conflict to obtain Arkham.

The clash between Maroni and Falcone increases, to spread their power in the city. From her part, Fish Mooney observes the events. She works on a curious weapon: Liza, a young woman whom she wants to use against Falcone. To replace his girlfriend, disappeared mysteriously to spy on him? Probably.

Then, the Penguin continues its ascent. Indeed, the bigger danger of Gotham is called Oswald. In this episode, he turns in double agent. He claims to become allied to Gordon, by giving many informations, but in reality, he exploits the policeman for his own cause: reign over Gotham City. Moreover, Oswald uses his manipulation gift to reach in the Maroni hierarchy.

Thank’s to "Arkham", the serie Gotham offered us a darker episode than the precedents. We look forward to seeing the suite…

Episode 5 (season 1) : Viper

During this fifth episode, it’s a secret drug which gives a hard time to our detectives. Indeed, a mysterious individual distributes flasks with a green liquid to the vagrants of Gotham. During a few hours, this drug gives a superhuman strength. Named Venom, we find this substance which gave the strength to the villain Bane in the Batman’s adventures.

James Gordon and Harvey Bullock discover that is a tenacious affair. Their investigation takes them until Wayne Industries and the WellZyn company. Without Thomas and Martha Wayne, the corruption seizes in Wayne Industries. So the young Bruce investigates into the schemes of the firm. The Batman birth ?

From his part, the Penguin makes revelations (again). Indeed, it’s a precious ally for Maroni in his « war » against Don Falcone. And he proves his significiance by giving indications for the burglary of the Falcone’s casino.

Finally, the weapon of Fish Money is ready, and the episode ends with 2 individuals listening a lullaby. Falcone is he going to fall into the trap?

Once again, the serie evolves in several environments and the mafia atmosphere is made more and more threatening …

Episode 6 (season 1) : Spirit of the goat

Today, it’s a special episode, because the serie don’t evoke the « mafia’s war ». The Bullock personality and his relation with Gordon were in the center of these 40 minutes.

Spirit of the Goat begin with a flashback (10 years before) which reveals an idealistic Bullock, and a state of mind similar to Gordon.
Before, he formed a team with Dix, an old school cop, Bullock pursues a criminal possessed by the spirit of the goat. The criminal kills children from rich families, and is finally killed during this flashback...
10 years later, in the present of "Gotham", Bullock discover the body of a young woman, with the same operational mode used by the murderer.
Leading the investigation, he succeeds to unmaske the villain, and especially, the person who influences them. It’s a therapist who wants to change the Gotham governance.

Finally, we find the competitors of our favorite duo, which manages to stop Gordon. Thus, his relation with Bullock is going to change in particular with the end of this episode. A new situation which risks to transform the dynamics of this pair. Another Oswald Cobblepot's master stroke.

Episode 7 (season 1) : Penguin’s Umbrella

During this episode, the mafia is back. Moreover, the city can tremble with the official triumph of the Penguin.

First of all, Gordon must face up to the consequences of his fake murder during the first episode. The surprised return of Cobblepot avoids to Jim to be emprisoned and makes the reign Fish Mooney vacillate. Indeed, she tries to avenge of the Penguin. This desire will turn against her, because Cobblepot is going to eliminate allies of Fish and especially Nikolaï (her lover).

Then, a new villain raises in front of Jim; Victor Zsasz. It’s an contract killer committed by Falcone.
So, we attend high speed pursuits between Gordon and the mafia, until its « special plan ». He wants to imprison Don Falcone and the Gotham’s mayor. With Bullock he is going to face the chaos, without success unfortunately.

The most interesting rest the end of this episode. We see a flashback with the Penguin and Don Falcone. This discussion is very interesting because we see that Falcone controls all the city thanks to his snitch; Cobblepot. However, I think that Cobblepot is the most dangerous and impressive man of all Gotham City.

Finally for me, this show it’s the best episode of the first season because, he focuses on a principal intrigue, not some short stories.

End of the first season, especially the episode 22 ; Gotham is ablaze !!!

Since some episodes, The chaos invaded over Gotham. It’s a mafia’s war between Don Falcone and Maroni. This anarchy provokes numerous rebellions within the GCPD. Indeed, policemen and prisoners fight under the anxious look of Jim.

The rivalry between both men shows us the Falcone weaknesses. So, he is taken hostage by the gang of Maroni. But Jim and Harvey save him in extremis. The inspector Gordon wants absolutely that the old man takes up the reins of the city, considering him less dangerous than Maroni.

In their escape , policemen are obliged to save Oswald (the Penguin) because it’s the right-hand arm of Falcone. Then, they are going to take refuge with a shed but they discover a strange thing … The return of Fish Money. All the Gotham inhabitants thought that she had died, but she took advantage of this opportunity to « build » her new team, with Selina Kyle (Catwoman) as the reference. Fish Money knows that if she kills Falcone, she will become the queen of Gotham. Moreover, she wants to hurt the Penguin.

However, at this accurate moment, Maroni and his mafiosi show up in the shed. We attend to a shootout which will be fatal for Maroni.
From his part, Oswald hides. He waits for the battle’s end to throw Fish down from the shed. After this gesture, The Penguin realizes that he is new king of Gotham.

After all these events, Falcone appoints inspector Gordon as the leader, the boss of Gotham. He offers him his loyal knife and leaves the city.

In the Wayne’s manor, Bruce searchs the secret of his father, but Alfred, the butler, thinks that Thomas Wayne had no inheritance. Obstinate, the teenager pursues his investigation. After a long reflection, Bruce finds a key. A music starts, the fireplace moves back. We perceive the hideout of the "future" Batman with bat noises….
