Today, in the Webside Ted and because I love Basket-ball, I choose a video of Rajiv Maheswaran « The math behind basket-ball’s wildest points ». This video speak about « Moving points ». We are all moving points. The presenter speak about the athlete’s moving points, particulary basketball player. Today, a machine can calculate differents movement in a Basket-ball court, can calculate shoot, rebound, pass…
Machine see with eyes of coach.
The speaker choose a situation of Pick and Roll as example, It’s the most important play. He shows than a machine can calculate differents options, differents probability. The machine permit to enlighten the game.
After, he speak about a other example, a shooting situation. The machine can give differents data. R. Maheswaran shows with a splendid graph which have « shooting ability » in abscissa and « Shot probability » in orderer. The graph show the probability that a shoot is in the basket.
Differents NBA teams uses the machine and also the veteran coach.
Personnaly, I loved this video. She shows a basket-ball with a differents facets. I'm not a fan of judging the level of a player with his statistics, because for me the important thing is its ability to be present in big games and its impact in relation to the level of his team.
But this machine is good because she permit for coach to have a other view of their teams, of their way.
