Hello guys !

I was bored so I decided to create our topic about Halloween Twisted Evil

So, what to say about this party ?

When I was young, I used to celebrate Halloween with my sister and my friends. I remember that we disguise ourselves with vampire or witch costumes to do the "trick or treat" thing in the neighborhood. It was so fun because when we come back, we had at least 1 kilo candy in our bags each one. I think that I stopped celebrating Halloween with 14 yo. And now, it is like a normal day for me.

I feel that Halloween is loosing power every year in France. Do you think so ? I think Halloween it is still a marketing argument to sell products during this period (before Christmas) but I saw less people and in particular children celebrating it in the streets. Maybe it is only in my city but for me it is the general trend in France.

I know that in the US, the spooky season is expected a lot. I found an article about some marketing campaign made for Halloween. It is all about pranks and creativity : https://blog.printsome.com/halloween-marketing-campaigns/
I really like the one of AirBnb because just thinking about spending a night in the Parisian catacombs make me scared !!

You can check the infographic at the end of the article ! It is really interesting because billions of $ are spent every day in the US for Halloween and the figures are increasing. I hope someday I could celebrate Halloween in the United States !!!

And you, what are you doing for Halloween ? Do you like it ?

Yes I really like Halloween. I have good memories about this celebration when I was young too Razz
But, I don't remember in what I was disguise... Maybe my mum had some photos I will ask to her hihi

However, I'm so sad that France doesn't celebrate Halloween like in the USA which we have all the houses, the streets and shops which are decorated ! We can make pumpkins too ! We are immerse in the Halloween's celebration and it would be so greeeeeat !!!! I would like celebrate Halloween in the real traditions.

Although, I found an article about the Halloween's traditions : https://people.howstuffworks.com/culture-traditions/holidays-halloween/halloween7.htm

Have fun to read ! bounce

This is Halloween ♪♫

I'm not a big fan of Halloween in its commercial aspect. This is supposed to be a ceremony to honour the dead's spirits, not the carries' fest :/

When I was a child - I was still living in Annecy (♥️) - I remember that my sister and I were disguised, and we almost killed our old neighbour : she was terrified by our disguisments. She screamed and closed the door. That's my only Halloween's souvenir haha

Now that I'm older, I see something else in Halloween : a good excuse to be drunk Laughing

HI guys,

Halloween is such a better topic to be honest hahaha ! It's one of my favorite moment of the year. You know why ?
Because my sis is such an artist that she paints stuff on our faces. She does amazing art work like vampire, werewolf and others cool stuff. During the evening, we go out with my brother and sisters and collect candies. It's so fun to see them enjoying this moment.
And you guys, do you something for Halloween ?

Hello !

For me, Halloween is more than a party because I grow up with Tim Burton's movies, The Addams Family series... and Halloween is the only way for me "to make alive" my favorite characters !

I agree with you Nolween, Halloween is not as popular as before... In my home, very few children come for sweets compared to years past... Crying or Very sad
Thank you Adrea for the article ! I love you

I hope one day to celebrate "a real Halloween Party" in an english speaking country and why not, get married with an anglophone to celebrate it every year ! bounce Twisted Evil

Hi people,

When I was young I was a big fan of Halloween. Each year I was waiting Halloween with impatience to celebrate it with my best friend. I always loved candies so I was super excited to get a full bucket of candies!! albino . A funny memorie that I remember is that one night of Halloween I received a cut nail instead of candies because the person did not have any sweets or money Crying or Very sad
However, I'm a bit disappointed about Halloween in France.. As Andrea said we don't celebrate it in France like in USA which is too bad beacuse it would be amazing. In my opinion, in USA products are marketed a lot compared to France just because americans people consider Halloween such like a big event.

Don't know about you guys , what do you think of Halloween ?

Bye bye Twisted Evil

Hello everyone!

Personally, I LOVE Halloween ! When I was a kid, I've always wanted to go trick or treating like all the kids all over the world but unfortunately we don't celebrate it in Egypt Sad We often do small Halloween themed parties at school, at uni or at our friends' places but WE DON'T GO FOR SWEETS HUNTING! Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad  I had an obsession with special effects makeup so I bought a sfx makeup kit from Amazon and I started doing all the gory looks cyclops , etc. It felt so good ! I created my own Halloween whenever I wanted haha.
And yeah, what I also love about Halloween is Heidy Klum's costumes ! *haha don't judge me pweaaase* But seriously she takes it to a whole new level !
Here's some of her looks : https://www.telegraph.co.uk/fashion/people/heidi-klum-halloween-costume-outfits-over-the-years/  flower

Certainly think that Jessica Rabbit has something about it that I like. Embarassed

I've never been a really big fan of Halloween. as you all say it is a very American festival. When I was young it wasn't too popular in England because we have a big festival on the 5th November - Bonfire night - where we celebrate the failed attempt by Guy (guido) Fawkes to blow up the houses of parliament. Every community builds an enormous bonfire which when lit is used to burn effigies of Guy Fawkes which is then followed by a firework display to rival your 14th July. It is obviously a cold time of the year (normally) and we spend the evening eating hot potatoes, hot dogs, burgers, toasting marshmallows and drinking mulled wine (heated, spicy wine). The days before the kids are allowed to sit in the streets with their Guy fawkes effigies asking for money - "Penny for the guy".

Over the years Halloween fueled by our Americanisation has grown in popularity and obviously which kids don't like to "trick or treat"? When we came to France in the early 90's we went our with our heavily disguised children to collect sweets and were meant with frightened and blank French faces who knew nothing of the "ritual". How disappointing for our children! It has grown a little over the years but not so much. We used to buy in loads of sweets for visiting kids but only had a few calls each year. We don't even bother anymore.

Roll on Christmas!

Hi Everyone!!
As Hagar said, we don't celebrate Halloween in Egypt, so unfortunately I don't have lots of memories to share with you in this occasion. But I do remember that our first party we attended in college, our welcome party, had the Halloween theme. We all came disguised for that party, and actually there were some very creative students with us that wore perfect costumes for the theme and won the competition for the best disguise. I remember that girls took about one or two hours putting some Halloween themed makeup. It was a very special event. Smile

Hello everyone,

Like Hagar and Nardine, we don't celebrate Halloween in Algeria, so I do not have memories to share with you Sad
Meanwhile, during this period, we are used to watch scary movies on TV, since we spend our fall holidays ( less than a week) at home or at the book fair (which open every year at the same date).

Whatever, it's my first year in France, and even if you think that french people don't celebrate Halloween like before, I really enjoy the decoration made in some shops, in hotels and in the CEPE rendeer

Have a good day !!

Do you have a similar festival at any time in the year? A festival that celebrates the dead?

Hey John,

No, actually we don't celebrate the dead ! We celebrate the birth instead.

At "Rabia El Awwal" 12th (a lunar month), we celebrate the birth of our porphet Mohammed (Peace Upon Him), with fireworks and candles everywhere. When I was young, it was very amusing. But now, like Halloween in France, it becomes a normal day with no special festiveties

Hi everyone!

I think Halloween is a very nice topic since almost everybody (except Clement) seems to like this celebration!

I personally watch a loooot of horror movies, I'm like a been fan and Halloween is for me a good opportunity to watch some without appearing as a complete psycopath ahaha!

I didn't post earlier on this forum because I wanted to talk about the Halloween party we organized with the BDE yesterday at the CEPE!

You were almost all present, what did you think about it? Did you have fun?

We tried our best to decorate the CEPE, buy some terrific makeup and some special candies! It was a great moment for us to organize such a party so I hope you guys all had fun! Halloween seems to be a great moment to celebrate Wink

Also, Marceline and Virginie's cocktails were delicious, I hope you enjoyed them as much as Florine who seemed to be very close to the cocktails during the entire envening aha!
