Re: Final class
It's not easy to find a series or a movie to watch together right now with my sister who's also at home. We have quite different tastes in terms of series. I prefer SF series while she watches more series about everyday life.
We finally found common ground with the Netflix series "Explained ". It's a documentary series that deciphers subjects in short format. The themes are very diverse and talk about current events and topics that are in the age of time. That's what has me more. I've been wanting to watch this series for a while now in order to broaden my knowledge on subjects that I wouldn't necessarily have looked at otherwise. Each subject is treated with simplicity and seriousness.
We watched the DNA episode. It was very interesting to hear about the advances that science had made in the discovery of the CRISPER 9 enzyme. This episode talks about the ethical issues and controversies of genetic manipulation. Indeed, I discovered through this episode that scientific discoveries could neutralize the properties of faulty genes in an individual's DNA. Nevertheless, scientists are concerned about the ethical implications.
I agree with them. I do not think it should be possible to choose the characteristics of one's child the way one chooses the characteristics of a car.
It could go so far as to create hereditary mutations, which would have a very big impact on the human species.
Although I did not have an understanding of all the scientific terms in English, I still managed to understand the broad outlines. I enjoyed learning the advances in terms of molecular biology.
If, like me, you want to watch series in order to acquire knowledge, I would advise you to do so. It allows you to learn in a simple way. I plan to continue this series and watch the episode on crypto currency.

Re: Final class
Hey!
So I've watched some videos from AsapSCIENCE channel on YouTube. I discovered this channel few years ago and I found it interesting, enriching and easy to understand. There are a lot of subjects treatise by 2 men in 5 to 10 minutes, illustrated by drawing. You can learn What will happen if the sun disappeared for one month, How to fall asleep in 2min and funnier videos as What does your poop say about you ? What if you had sex with an animal? etc.
I think it's a good way to listen English every day because these videos are short while learn some scientific facts.
As we were talking about it, I let you with this video : https://youtu.be/OTYfke545vI
Emma thanks I didn't know a documentary about Lil Peep was on netflix!! I'm on my way!

Re: Final class
Hello hello,
Containment allows us to watch a lot of series and catch up !
Soooo it's ok, I hurried to finish the "Lock and key" series to be able to share it with you !
After the murder of a father by a teenager, a mother and her children (Tyler,Kinsey,Bode) move in Keyhouse, a very old house belonging to her late husband. The children will discover magic keys related to their father's death, which they find while waiting for them to whisper in the house.
The Key each have a unique power (one key that allows them to enter his head to anyone's head to see his memories, one that allows to change face, one that allows to set fire, one that allows to manipulate shadows,...) but only the children can hear them whispering. When adult uses a key, he forgets immediately after what happened. And one day, a mysterious and seductive demons wakes up and wants to get the keys back to have a big power.
The series is great, the story is original. I had a lot of apprehension with watching the series, because a series in a house that seems "haunted", children and magic, I thought it was going to be silly teenage series. But not at all, the children are mature, the story is well brought up with several riddles, and it sometimes startled ! (Well, I am a coward it's true, I was watching the show when I was in a train station and I jumped, a man sitting next to me looked at me very strangely, I'm ashamed).
But it's been a very long time since i have seen a show with magic and I really loved it, the story is so well made that you could believe that this house really exists and that the keys too ! I have always loved magic and I've always wanted to belive that it exists so magic keys are so good !
The only thing that I think unfortunate si the end of the seadon which is a little predictable but I'm not going to spoil the show, I will let you watch !

Re: Final class
After watching your comments, I realize that I still have a lot of series and documentaries to watch !!!!
Lisa: I'm not sure to watch "Love is Blind", I have never been a fan of reality shows, everything seems to me false and overplayed... Especially when you play with love, finding love is supposed to be beautiful, to be true and not to be in a reality show... well it's personal I have trouble undertanding the concept.
Celie: You make me want to watch Prison Break but this series is so long, it will take me a long time to watch everything if I start it ! It looks good but it's old (my aunt watched this show on M6 when I was little !!) so I always thought it was a show for old people ahah.

Re: Final class
Hey everybody,
First of all i will answer my comrades, especially Celie and Paul, cause what they watched interests me too.
Indeed, prison break I also love this series I've already seen and my favorite characters are also Mickeal Scofield and theodore lmfao.
What I love in this series is the suspense, knowing how he will escape from all these situations etc.. I recommend it.
Paul, the report you watched looks really interesting, I think I'll get started soon (confinement obliges ahah). The documentary gives a lot of space to the Red Bull teams, doesn't it? As you know I used to work for them so I love to find out about everything they do and I often watch F1 with my dad so I'll be sure to watch this report. Thanks for the advice

Re: Final class
As far as I'm concerned I haven't watched much films or series in english lately because I recently started a new "toy boy" series on netflix but I'm watching in spanish in VO so not very useful for this topic.
Oh yes I remember! It was before yesterday ahaha (the confinement makes me lose my mind). I watched a report on Bob Marley's life with my parents. It's awesome, I really recommend it and I think I'll watch it again because it's really touching and you can understand his whole life in details, what made him do this and so on. Since I was very young I was rocked with his songs by my father who loves him and now he has become one of my favorite singers. If I had to point out a fav singer, it would be him without hesitation I love him ! Anyway I highly recommend him if you love the person and especially his music.
Good confinement and don't forget : STAY HOME AND WASH YOUR HAND ! SEE YOU GUYS

Re: Final class
Hi everyone,
Thanks to Caroline's wonderful presentation last semester, I recently started watching the series "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" and have already finished all three seasons !
I really liked this series, it has a very "teenager" side that I appreciate.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina imagines the origin of the adventures of Sabrina the Apprentice Witch as a dark story about the transition to adulthood through horror, the occult sciences and of course witchcraft. Sabrina, the heroine, struggles to reconcile her dual nature : half witch, and half mortal; while opposing the forces of Evil that threaten her, her family and the mortal world.
Beyond its fictional side, the series also talks about the importance of family, love, friendship difference and tolerance. Sabrina fight throughout episodes to keep her connection to her best friends. the mortals. Whereas, from the point of view of witches, mortals are useless and weak creatures.
There are currently three seasons. The first one was my favorite, we discover the whole universe of the show, we follow Sabrina and Harvey's love relationship, and her choice to either simply remain mortal, or officially become a witch and say goodbye to the mortal world. I don't want to spoil anyone here, so I won't tell the next two seasons!!
If you get a little bored, watch it !

Re: Final class
Hello everyone,
I'm going to talk to you about "The Twilight Zone", which is an American science fiction television series consisting of several 25-minute episodes but each episode is independent. The series dates back to the 60's but there have been remakes (although the old black and white episodes are better). The purpose of this series, as its creator Rod Serling said, is "to strike the viewer, to shock him by the always unexpected, surprising and singular fall of each of these stories".
This series is of the same type as Black Mirror.
My favourite episode is "The eyes of the beholder". It's about beauty and how we perceive it. The relationship to normality. I also love the "Heaven or Hell" episode, the moral of the story is really interesting.
In fact this series allows us to question ourselves and to see things from another point of view. I was really struck by the messages it conveys. I strongly advise you to watch these two episodes and others.
Paul: I watched Formula 1 quite often when I was a kid on Sundays (my father obviously chose the program). I like Formula 1 but sparingly. When I was a kid, my favourite driver was Schumacher, I don't know why but it was him! It's very sad what happened to him... (I always loved Germany and the German language for no reason)!
Not long ago, I looked at the time record for changing tyres in Formula 1: 1''88 to change tyres, a new world record by the Red Bull team.
This sport fascinates me because it requires extreme concentration and since concentration is not my forte! Moreover, I have always wanted to drive on a racetrack.
The movie Rush was on TV this week, I didn't watch the whole movie but it looked good too. It tells the story of the battle between two of the greatest rivals in the history of Formula One, James Hunt and Niki Lauda competing for racing stable McLaren and Ferrari teams.
I might watch this report Paul, you've done a good teasing!
Camille G: the movie you watched sounds very interesting. Amnesia stories are always fascinating. I would like to know how we perceive our environment and how we see our life through what others tell us when we can't remember anything. Would we have the same tastes, for example? If we had forgotten everything. I've often watched shows about this!

I also watch "The Twilight Zone" Adelaïde !!
Like you, I loved the episode "The eyes of the beholder". It shows how a man will do anything to become famous in spite of others.
I haven't seen the "Heaven or Hell" episode yet.
As the episodes are independent I'm watching this series little by little to enjoy each episode with its own plot. We remain really shocked I find throughout the episode, it's impossible to predict the end of an episode unlike some series that are a little predictable.

Hello everyone !
I present you my containment buddy "Netflix" haha !
I have been watching a lot of series, one of them is Elite ( like jessica)
So Elite is a Teen serie in the same spirit as Gossip Girl it follows rich students at a secondary school and their friends,
Its gives a look to how money, sex, drugs in the hands of teens and without any control can affect their lives and ruin it.
without spoiling but in my humble opinion it’s an average serie just to kill time in this difficult period.
Jessica:i really do like the concept of his videos ! but sometimes i feel he's repeating the same themes... don't you think ?
Lisa: i didn't hear about it, but i would love to watch even though i'm not a big fan of reality shows, maybe i will give it a go
Paul: if the containment will last maybe i will find myself watching your documentary !

It's a spanish serie but i did watch it in english, don't you think that it has the same style, story as gossip girl ??
Jessica Mauricio wrote:Hi everyone !
So, I have to be sincere, lately I haven't been watching a lot of movies or tv series besides maybe Elite but it's spanish so useless for this forum.
But there is an American influencer or youtuber (I don't know how to name him because he does videos on Facebook). His name is Brand Mondo and he's a hairdresser. Each videos he does last 10 minutes on average and they are really cool. I personnally have seen about 10 videos of him because they are so interesting.
I'm going to quickly explain the concept of his videos.
He watch videos of people bleaching/dying their hair or cutting their hair by themselves and he explain what should be done and what sould not. I love him because he does not judge when someone is doing something wrong, he is very instructive.
Thanks to his videos I've learn new vocabulary related to hair ahah...Now i know what scalp means (cuir chevelu) or bang (frange). I'm not sure you say bang John, i think it's an american word.
I encourage everyone interested in this type of videos to watch it. Plus, his accent is very simple to understand.

Re: Final class
hello everyone I hope you are well,
sorry for my late reply, my laptop is no longer working, and everything is closed to repair it,
So when my boyfriend comes home from work I use his laptop
So these days, before my computer crashes I watched peaky blinder, it's a great discovery for me
is a British television series created by Steven Knight, it tells the story of a family of criminals of Gypsy origin. what I like the most is that it is based on a true story of a group of gangsters from Birmingham in the 1919s. They deal in arms and drugs, they also committed a lot of crims
the actors are all exceptional, the filming location and the set are not only immersive but also of rare beauty, my favorite character was of course Callian Murphy who captivate us with his very atypical gaze he heads the gangster sociopath.
I found it difficult to concentrate on the accent of the characters, because they have a British accent and it is very hard to understand.
Take care, see you

Emeline Texier wrote:Hello !!!
I watched a documentary about Avicii on Netflix: "Avicii true stories".
The documentary follows the artist in his daily life, from his beginnings to the great international stages.
In front of the camera he tells everything, fatigue, repeated concerts, fame, alcohol...
Through this documentary (very well directed) we really enter the state of mind of avicii, we understand very quickly that such a frenetic life is clearly unbearable.
This life of madness will push him to defenitely stop concerts in 2016.
For 90 minutes, his entire life is paraded from his debut to his worldwide success "Wake me up" in 2013. It soon became clear that his dream of becoming a famous DJ was fading as his career progressed. In 6 years, he played the greatest concerts but he was getting worse and worse because he played more and more concerts, parties, alcohol and lacked sleep. All his excesses ravaged his pancreas and plunged him into depression.
This documentary was released a few days before Avicii's death at the age of 28...
I really liked this documentary because it shows very well how a dream can turn into a nightmare and how, even surrounded by friends, avicii has fallen into a never-ending spiral.
I also watched this documentary Emeline, because Avicii is one of my favourite Dj,
this documentary is very interesting because it tells us about the daily life of this Dj, his beginnings in music and his fight for his illness, the director also did interviews other Dj, like Dj tieso (one of my best dj)
this documentary also has a moral, because it shows us that popularity, money can destroy a person, and that everything can rock overnight

I'm quite happy to be back home and I'm enjoying this confinement to finally be able to watch a show in English.
I've been watching Prison Break in English for a week now and I think it's become one of my favourite series.
I'm in denial of the work and so I've made good progress on the series ahah. Right now I'm at the beginning of season three. So I'm going to give my opinion on some moments of the series. I warn then the people that I am likely to reveal certain scenes.
For starters, I'd say I love all seasons. Each one has a real interest and structures the Michael Scofield plan. I really like season one, because all along it makes you wonder how the characters are going to escape. The unexpected and the twists and turns make it really suspenseful and I love that.
Of course my favorite part is the escape. I shed my little tear when Charles Westmoreland/DB Cooper died, because he is one of the kindest and nicest characters in the prison.
My favorite characters are:
- Mickeal Scofield: because you're necessarily fascinated by his intelligence and his analytical mind, which is the focus of the show. I also like him because he tries to hurt as few people as possible and he will do anything to save the people he loves.
- Theodore Bagwell /T Bag: Even though it may seem hard to believe in view of all the horrors he has committed. I find this character really interesting because of his life and his personality. A lot of bad things happen to him, but his cunning always helps him to get out of the worst situations. In season two we start to appreciate him.
My least favorite character is Brad Bellick. I don't like this character because everything he does is for his own good and he is a coward.
Even if the series is not new I strongly advise you to watch it, especially for people attracted by conspiracy stories and who like action .
Bye bye
prison break was my favorite series when I was younger, I watched this series all the time with my mother and my brother, I really liked the history of the series, the characters, the decor, everything
I found it very touching, the relationship that the two brothers had, this may be an example for some people, a solid relationship based on trust and brotherhood. I also liked the prison nurse, I find her very cute, she played her role well but couldn't resist the charm of Micheal Scolfild.
My favorite character is of course Micheal Scofild, I liked the way he was tattooed and his intelligent side too,
you made me want to watch this Celie series ^^

Re: Final class
Hi everyone,
I realized this morning (in my bed) that I had forgotten the second part of the instructions, so I'm sorry to comment so late!!
Lisa : I saw some extracts on Netflix of "Love is Blind" and it doesn't make me want to watch! I don't like reality TV at all, so that must be why. But I'm sure it must be very funny, and very addictive! A few years ago, I was watching a reality show, and even though I think it sucks, I always wanted to know what happens next!!
Laura : I'll definitely watch "Lock and key", you tell me so much about it!! I'll watch the trailer before, because in general I don't really like stories that take place in haunted houses, it scares me !!
But if you watched it, I think I can too, because we are pretty much the same for that ! I'll tell you as soon as I start it!
Célie : I've never watched "Prison Break", it never made me want to, it isn't a girly enough show for me !!
But I've heard it's a great show! Maybe one day I'll want to watch it, but not right away.
Take care
