This week I want you to share online websites or apps that you use and like. The difficulty for you is that I only want websites that use in English. give the links and a short summary saying why you like them.

Subject 7 - online websites and Apps that you recommend Empty online websites you recommend

I often go to the Reddit forum. Reddit is a social network, a forum where everyone will post links to videos or pictures. The forum usually highlights the trends of the moment. There are categories for everythings like animals, vehicles, computers, funny moments etc.

https://www.reddit.com/

When I play, I sometimes go to this site which is luckily only in English. I like this site because it allows me to exchange items in the Rocket League game. To make the exchange you just have to add the person as a friend, and talk in the game. The discussion is generally in English.

https://rocket-league.com/trading?filterItem=0&filterCertification=0&filterPaint=0&filterMinCredits=0&filterMaxCredits=100000&filterSearchType=2&filterItemType=2

Finally, I also have this site which is exclusively in English. Finally I notice that it is often the sites of the games that are often in English. This site gathers a lot of information and it's very useful for the game because it gathers all the characters of the game, the compositions to have a stronger team, the tier list the strongest characters and many other information.

Honestly this last subject doesn't inspire me a lot because I don't use the internet a lot, well, I use it to do research but otherwise I only use applications.
So John don't blame me but I'm not going to tell you about a website but an application that uses English, all the same!

Let me introduce you to Wattpad, I don't know if you know it?
https://www.wattpad.com/
It's an application that allows people like you and me to publish, at the time we want, our stories and there is a very large community that leaves opinions, that sometimes helps you to correct your mistakes.
There is such a craze around this application that some "budding authors" have already been published and even released in movies (even if it's not the best story).
This application is very interesting because it allows you to discover stories of all styles and languages and you can interact with the author and motivate her to publish, help her and sometimes even inspire her on the continuation of her book.

Thanks Emmanuelle, I've changed the opening posts to include apps. I guess it just shows my age but I think of apps as online sites too.

I don't know too many websites in english, except tubitv. I have use this site to watch new movie. They offer many films that have not been released at the cinema. However it’s complicated to use this site because it’s not available in France. So I put my internet in English country and I can access to this site. This system does not work all the time. So, the link to the site is https://gdpr.tubi.tv/.
It’s very difficult to find streaming website. Currently there is lot of platform like Netflix, Prime video… They propose lot of movies and tv series but they haven’t all and we always want watch the movie who they haven’t! Francetv create his platform Salto like Disney, so I think it’s the end of free streaming sites.
I have already use the website of the BBC to watch information and report. During my Bachelor, my teacher use lot of this site to work oral comprehension. I think that’s all.

Hello John,

I use SPORTbible, it's a website on sport and news on it. There is a lot of stories and anecdotes on teams, people linked to the world of sport. I discovered a lot of very interesting stories.

https://www.sportbible.com/

I also use the official Manchester United application to have informations on my favourite team, to know who is injuried etc...

Hello John,

So I'm going to talk about a site which is actually more of a software program. It's the Markstrat. It's a simulation game in English for marketers that allows them to find themselves in a virtual marketplace and to be responsible for marketing, communication and sales. You learn how to manage a large part of the company. However, it's a game that schools buy for their students and that pays for itself in the form of a licence. I played and won this game with my partner during my Erasmus last year in Spain.

This is the link of Markstrat : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zy06A-qDX9g&feature=emb_logo

Hello John,

Your subject doesn't inspire me because I don't use online websites or apps … Today I use only apps to download like Disney + or Netflix.
However, last month, I often used US newspapers like The New York Times or websites CNN to follow the American elections.
https://www.nytimes.com/
https://us.cnn.com/

We can see the difference between US and French newspapers.
Moreover, even if French newspapers spoke it, the US newpapers tell this période differently.

I think I will return to these newspapers soon to follow the election of the president by the electors, December 14th.

I don't use so many English applications in my everyday life except two.

Recently I've been using Busuu which is an application to learn many different languages, I've started to learn Chinese since last year, or improve my English too. This application is totally free, this application offers lessons like at school, with vocabulary and grammar, dialogues in story format to read or audio documents.

Then for about 2 or 3 years, I've been using an application to watch series coming out in Asia, especially Korean or Chinese, it's Viki. I love this application because it's free, and if you want to be able to watch preview episodes you can pay. The subtitles are often in English. But on this application you can also find TV shows that are broadcast in Asia like cooking shows for example so I find it very interesting.

Hi John !

For five years I’ve been using the website “GoMovies” to watch movies and series in good quality and in original version. (I know that’s illegal but shhh). I found this website during a year where it was very hard to find English movies without strange subtitles, and in high definition. I needed it to improve my English during high school. Now I can stream movies that aren’t out yet in French Cinema and I don’t need subtitles anymore.
https://gomovie.ms/

Still in the movie area, I use on my smartphone the app “Movie Reminder”. It's a kind of library where I can list movies I've already seen and list the ones I want to watch, the interface is very easy to use. I've been using it for years. I love it because it allows me to not forget all the movies I've seen so far. Being a big fan of cinema, I hated the time when I couldn't find the title of a film I had seen a long time ago. Now they're all there, and it's very useful if I want to recommend a film to a friend, or if i want to find all the movies an actor may have done.

Like Bastien, I sometimes go on Reddit. It's a social network where you can watch videos, posts, photos... The good thing about Reddit is that you don't need to register and have an account to view posts like on facebook or instagram. The account is useful if you want to post, like or leave comments, but if you just want to see the news or a subject that interests you, you don't need to have an account.

What I think is great is that we don't have to share our data such (as our email address for example) if we don't want to. It's still convenient to have an account, but the fact that it's not compulsory is cool.

Here is the link to go to the site: https://www.reddit.com/

Hello John!
I use the platform YouTube, I follow the youtube chanel “Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell” (I put the link here https://www.youtube.com/c/inanutshell/featured). It’s a youtube chanel only in English, with subtitles in English only. They describe themselves like this “Videos explaining things with optimistic nihilism”. It’s science popularization.
Otherwise, on my phone, I have the app BBC News for general information.
And I look my series on Netflix, always in English.
