Group 2 Article for discussion thread.
This is the thread to place the links for your articles that we are going to discuss each week. The articles should be posted before the weekend so that everyone has a few days to read, think about and prepare for discussion of the article. You can choose any type of article that you want on any subject. As with last year enter the session with open minds and discuss as we would between friends .
Something I didn't ask but I think the person who posts the article should include a short vocabulary list of difficult/unusual or important words found within the article.
First week it's Marie, Marie and Martial.
These sessions depend on you. Both the leaders who choose the articles and those of you who are reading them. If you want to get the most out of your English lessons then you need to put the effort and preparation into them. I know you will.

Thanks Sahar, Art snobbery. Interesting, will there be too much agreement?
Re: Group 2 Article for discussion thread.
Howdy!
Here’s the article i suggest for next week :
https://www.ohmymag.co.uk/well-being/health/the-autumn-blues-are-here-heres-how-to-get-through-according-to-medical-experts_art13698.html
As we have to make the talking session last 20 minutes i thought that having a discussion a bit informal and not too serious would be easier to make it last. And since autumn arrived, some of us might relate
For some others, the subject might not interest you at all and i’m sorry about that but i promise i’ll find questions to include you in the discussion anyway
Vocab :
Disorder : trouble
Cheerlessness : tristesse
Questions :
Did you know about ‘SAD’ ?
Do you feel concerned ?
Do you feel moody when autumn arrives or are you excited about it ?
What do you do to cheer up when you feel down ?

Hi ,
Here you will find the article for next week :
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2012/aug/09/should-there-be-more-sport-in-schools
Some Vocabulary :
PE : EPS
Jolt : soubresaut
Loathe : détester
Reignite : relancer
(David Cameron : old prime minister of the UK)
I am sorry because this is an old article but this is especially the subject that I found interesting. I want you to think about sport in school in general.
Some questions :
- Do you practise any sport ?
- Do you think that sport is important in school ?
- Do you have bad or great memories of sport during your school years ?
- Do you think that sport should be obligatory in university just like in high school ?
- Would you like to finish school earlier to practise a sport like in the USA ?

Re: Group 2 Article for discussion thread.
Hi,
Here is a video for the next discussion :
https://education.nationalgeographic.org/resource/democracy-people-power
Questions :
- What do you think of the US system of government? Does it really take into account the opinion of the citizens?
- Do you think that France is currently a democracy where the citizen's opinion really counts?
- Do you think that other countries have found a better way of governing democratically than France?
- Should every voice count ?

Hi, here the link to my article :
https://goodereader.com/blog/digital-publishing/major-ebook-piracy-site-blocked-in-france-and-india
It’s a short article but it permits to introduce the subject I want to talk with you next week: the access to the culture.
Some questions:
Do you think everybody can have access to books?
What do you think about website which propose illegal downloading?
Have you already practiced the illegal downloading (books, movies, series, musics…) and why?
Vocabulary :
Available = disponible
Circumvent = contourner
curtailing = réduire

Hello,
Here is a link to one of the articles in next week's discussion:

We will be talking about hobbies, so think of a hobby you'd like to discuss and also one that you have tried but you didn't enjoyed.

Hello everyone!
Here is my article for this week's debate:
https://www.theguardian.com/media-network/2013/jun/11/money-meaning-umair-haque
The article is a bit pompous and old but the most important thing is the subject, which is the relationship between money and meaning given to the work, that I found interesting to discuss with you!

Hi, here the link to my article : https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/nov/03/let-football-take-the-stage-at-qatar-world-cup-says-fifa-president
I have chosen a very current topic which is controversial and shares people’s opinions : The World Cup in Qatar.
We will not necessarily talk about football, but rather about the dilemma between huge sports events (such as Cup of World) and the human and environmental resources in wich all this draw.

Re: Group 2 Article for discussion thread.
I want to talk about "Cancel Culture". I know it's a sensitive subject, but it's very actual and very interesting to debate i think.
The link : https://www.nationalworld.com/culture/what-cancel-culture-meaning-examples-cancelled-celebrities-woke-3480037
Cancel culture was started by woke culture, woke today refers to being aware or knowledgeable in a political or cultural sense, especially when it comes to issues surrounding marginalized communities - he describes someone who “woke up” to problems of social injustice.
Today we have many examples of canceled people: Trump, Kanye West, J.K. Rowling, Dave Chappelle and many more.
The movement was initially created with good intentions and ideas simply wanting to help minorities and denounce the attacks suffered by these minorities, but excesses are beginning to appear and in particular the Cancel Culture movement, which leads to questions that I want you to pose :
- Are people really capable of making justice into their own hands ? What about the presumption of innocence?
- In a world where freedom of expression and thought exists, does cancel culture really have a place?
- Do you think the continued use of suffering in cancel culture arguments isn't inherently unfair?
- Humiliations, death threats...etc caused by the cancel culture, don't they pose a problem in the ethics of the Woke culture which wants to be benevolent?
...ect
- Do you think there is an alternative to cancel culture?
