Critique this first semester's English course, suggest improvements for next year's first semester and say what you'd like to see in the second semester. Be honest.

This first semester improved my oral comprehension through the series I watched. It's a semester that changes a lot of what we have had before. I think it's complementary with what we did with Mr. Fur. With him, we worked a lot writing and with you we mainly worked the oral(which I think was really necessary).

I think the only problem with this semester is that we have not learned new vocabulary specific to the economy... (By the way, we have not corrected the last vocabulary exercises !!)

However, I found very interesting discussions in small groups when you gave us several topics of conversation. I think we should do this more often! This would allow us to see our progession during the semester …

This first semester's English course was very different than previous semester.
I think it's due to the special teacher that we have this semester. John Cox is a special teacher, very different from my last english teacher. He is funny and passionate about his job. It's funny to go at english lesson, we talk about any type of subject... But I regret that I not having do ​​real progress . In fact, I think my english oral comprehension is better because we work on this special point.
Nevertheless, my writing expression no upgrade. There is no progress on this point.
My writing is not better than before. What a shame! In my opinion know writing english is essential. You can't be good at oral if you dont know write correctly in english.
Therefore, this semester was great because we had a good ambiance during the lesson and I did some progress.

But I find that I have not progressed enough. I find that my level has not change since the end of high school ... Personally, I find that one English classes during week is not enough. We can't work on all competences in one course. It would take more than an hour of English . I think the faculty give not enough importance to English. Yet we live in a globalized economy is essential to speak english in order to have a good job.

Overall, I personnaly think this first semester’s english course was good because we’re not used to talking english whereas it’s very important because we’ll always face situations where we’ll have to talk english, professionally or not. But of course written english is also very important, even more in economics so this type of course would not make sense if it was done during the whole bachelor degree. That’s why I think the complementarity between Mr Fur’s course and yours is a very good thing because at this point I feel like my written english has improved in term of vocabulary like for exemple we learned how to describe both financial and strategical aspects of a company (business plan, income statement…) or also banking vocabulary which can be useful if you have to live in England or another english-speaking country and you simply want to open a current account, you never know… and then on the other hand, I feel it’s getting easier for me to talk english even if I think my oral capacities are still lower than my written one but the more we’ll have oral presentations and comprehensions the more we’ll be efficient and understandable.

For the second semester, I think it could be interesting to make an oral presentation focused on a professional situation we could face in the future but at the same time I know it can be boring so I’ll wait and see and I’m pretty sure I will not be disappointed by a Leicester City FC fan  

In my opinion I think I improved my oral comprehension because we past a long time on this point by watching series , video on the intranet etc.. We have to make progress on the oral part but I think we have not worked enough the written part .

I found the idea of ​​watching a series in English rather interesting because it is a thing we used to do .
Nevertheless we have not learned new vocabulary words about the economy and I have the impression that my speaking deteriorated .
But you know make the subject interesting with many jokes and I like it

I'm going to present you my felt about this semester.
Firstly I think the teaching method makes english very lively and fun.
This method permit to not make the lesson borring.
In my opinion, we have done many speaking and I find it's very important to progress.
Moreover, I have improved my oral comrehension because we train in that.
I find the idea of talking to a forum is good because we learn to speak about a topic and it can't be usefull in our futur professional life.
However, I find that we haven't learnt enough vocabularies related to the economy.
I also believed I haven't make a lot of progress in my writing.

I partipated on some lessons in "Maison des longues" (I wasn't on M Fur lessons last year) and I liked the idea to make groups and participate on topics (we did it on one lesson).

You just have to give a little list of topics or give a site and a special theme to choose (for example : health, politics, technology, whatever you want it doesn't matter), and on this website (I'm a goldfish but I can't remember what english press website it was) you can choose an article on your own wish.

Then you can for the next lesson try to explain to your group what you retained, what are interesting, what you can debate on this topic, etc ...
It's a good oral exercice for all honnestly, and there's also a written part (as you can recap your notes before discuss with the group).

This English course is different from those whom I had previously but I enjoyed it.
I like the fact that the professor never speaks French, It forces the oral understanding.
The games and the fact of preparing oral expressions on subjects of our choice allow to learn more easily, in any case it is more pleasant!
I also like the fact that we speak about the news in small group, it’s more interesting and it’s easier to speak, especially when we are not very good in English like me, ha-ha.

In my opinion, the way to do english courses changed this semester. In fact, Mr Fur have a preference for english writing over oral english else. It's the opposite for you. I think both are inevitable. We have to learn oral and writing to speak better a language. In classroom, the problem is it's more easily to write than to speak because of shyness. Lot of people dare not take the speaking during classroom so they don't exercise themselves, and I think it's too bad. Morevover, english is the most essential language to be in contact with another person who don't speak french or another language we learned. This language is very important for business too. Most of the time, when we study economics, it means that we will probably work in an international company. Then, it's possible the interview to get the job is in english. So, we must to give good feeling of ourselves. The training has to be perfect and this one start in classroom.

Otherwise, we don't have to stay on past glories. To be bilingual we have to go in English-speaking country at the aim to language strenghtening. When we go alone abroad, the only solution to manage very well and to be understand by the others is to speak english. There is no choice and this thing is the better thing to make progress in english (and it's the same for all languages in general). So, learn english in classroom is just the beginning. After that, we have to work by ourselves to become a perfect english speaker.

I understood from context.

English courses this semester was very good, and for me much less boring than the two years preceding ones (for me). I come very far for english language, so I find that my listening and comprehension is much better. There is no real structure, and the course is alive and cool (jokes included). I think for the first time I was glad to go in English, victory!
If there is one thing to change, understanding reading and writing, we have very little discussed.

It is the first year when I have the feeling to understand the course. Indeed, we do not spend one hour and a half to write only. In this course, we have the possibility of expressing himself more easily and we practise all the more the exchanges in English. I am anxious to say that the humor helps to maintain the attention on the course. Doubled in the previous years I find that the principle for the passage in the oral is friendlier. Personally the fact of knowing that everybody crosses one after the other and the same day me stress less. We are then all in the same boat. But especially I do not any more come in class with the fear to be only questioned in front of everybody.

This 1st semester in English has been really interesting, it's weird for us at the begining to see a such funny teacher but after we really liked and helped us to relax... It's different from what we had in the past ! i appreciated all what we have done in this course but, in my opinion, the only suggestion for the future, is to more study economics vocabulary as my other mates said.

In my opinion, the English classes we have this semester are really interesting and useful. Listening, writing and speaking are the most important parts of a foreign language study. And the t-series-watching 'homework', forum and oral presentations exactly relate to our needs.
For me, the most important thing is to enjoy and to be motivated to do those things. Thank our excellent teacher to let us experience this kind of English class.

Hi !  I really liked this semester ! Contrary to the last years, your course is really "lively". I can tell you I had fun, everybody could feel comfortable ! Of course, it would be great if we could have more English course, I think it would be a lot more profitable if we could speak English daily. However I'm aware you are not empowered to increase our number of hours in English, and maybe you already have too much work but I'm sure we can see a big improvement in a few months only if we practice English much more.
Moreover, I really liked to learn everyday words, because I was fed up with "economic words". I know it's useful, but some people can't even make a sentence without a mistake. I prefer to learn "standard" English than English specific to economy. I think we have to continue practicing oral expression because I think it is the main weakness for most of us. However, it shouldn't be a presentation, but rather an interactive debate.
Personally, I saw you for the last time on Wednesday. I'm going to the university of Moncton (Canada) for the second semester and even though it is a Francophone university, I hope I'm going to have the opportunity to improve my English because I will be in a mostly English-speaking province (New Brunswick).

I find the first semester interesting because it changes from the usual learning method,the teacher is fun and the way he teach push us to like english. Some videos comprehension was a little bit hard because of real british accent but the more it's hard, the more it's interesting.

I think we should learn more vocabulary in the second semester, not necessarily about economics . If you are good in Vocabulary which means you know several words, it allows you to understand easily a text or online article that where unusually words may be used .

if we create a video in the 2nd semester , i wish that it will be a free subject because if not it will be just like an another powerpoint presentation..

I realy liked this semester as well. It's totaly different from what I did before. I found it very cool to practice the oral which is very important to me. But maybe we could just have a little work on a video or somthing like that to do at home (as homework) and then just to come and discuss it in class.
I like what we do even though I think it's not enaugh, but I think we can't do a lot more with only 1h30 per week. And the idea of this website is very cool as well.
