Tourism development in Africa - Glody, Rachel & Amina
Marrakech, Senegal, Tanzania. Why aren't more people visiting African countries? What needs to be done to boost the tourism industry over there?
Re: Tourism development in Africa - Glody, Rachel & Amina
Beautiful way to sell us our beautiful Africa, i like it.
It's too bad than there is not a lot of people who visiting Africa because this a wonderful place, and a great show for every senses. The tastes, landscapes, odors, textures, everything is different from Europe. It's a beautiful place to escape of how we live everyday, without the pressure and rapidity but with a lot of simplicity and sharing.
I think it's because of ours governments, Africa is juged like "dangerous" because of the political instability and wars. We have to admit that the dictators in charge since the continent is "free" of colonialism don't care about the country they just want money and power for themselves. That's the reason why they don't try to attract people and they don't develop hotels and touristic economy.

3in1! Yeah good presentation. I loved. I think that is more important to value here where one comes from. About tourism in Africa, i agree with recommandations: fight against corruption, and truly developing tourism and this happens through political stability.
To African leaders , i ask them to think about the potential that Africa has. And the international media to stop giving a bad image of the Africans and escepially of the continent which besides is not a country as some would think.

Hi boys !
Africa is a beautiful continent, with a lot of differents cultures and landscapes.
I went few times in Morocco, like 6-7 times, and it was always a good experience.
Everytime I was in Morocco, I pass through Marrakech so I know well this city.
But I never visit the others countries you talk about.
The pictures you show us give me envy to visit it, maybe I will go to Glody's home one day to party !
I think that if people don't visit much Africa is the politic instability and all the danger present there.
There are a lot of putsch and some countries called "democracy".
So I understand people who don't want to take risks just to have good holidays.
One day, I want to visit South-Africa and Egypt, the culture of these countries are very rich and I could be a great experience !
That's all for me !

Re: Tourism development in Africa - Glody, Rachel & Amina
I really enjoyed this presentation because it reminded me great memories...
I have been several times in Cape town since my parents are living there, and I visited once the Cape of good hope. I have also visited once Zanzibar when I was younger.
The presentation was really accurate, except the exact localization... (isn't it Petit Glody? ).
Tourism in Africa is a real issue because it is supposed to be one of Africa's strength but in the end, the wealth created does not benefit to African people, or just a few of them. Corruption is the main problem. Governments should think about "Tourism" in a much long term instead of squandering Africa's heritage.

Interesting to leave the world tourism then to dedicate itself to 3 countries of Africa, the general in the specification. By means of photos and of videos, they knew how to make the advertising for their country. Just damage that there was this bug with the answers on Socrative.

Interesting presentation of Glody, Rachel and Amina. Choosing to present each of us a country that is dear to him is a very good idea. I found the landscapes beautiful and that, I think, gave everyone the desire to discover or rediscover these countries.
Tourism in Africa should be more developed and promoted.
Personally, I would like to discover Morocco for a weekend.
The only negative point, which is not really one, would be the quiz about the different African personalities: I did not know half of them and I would have liked to discover them.
But this is only a small detail, it was very good, congratulations to you three!

I agree. The problem was the lack of time I think.
Re: Tourism development in Africa - Glody, Rachel & Amina
Hello everybody,
I found this topic very interesting. I didn't know these parts of Africa. I loved your video where was differents places and tourism. I think that we should go more in these countries for travel and tourism, because there is a lot of things to see and visit. Your presentation was very clear and the concept very good, each person presented one country.
Thanks !

It was a good presentation.
I really want to discover Africa and travel. I liked this subject because for few years I think about a travel I would do : a hiking in Kilimandjaro. Glody talked about Tanzania but he didn't speak about this mount.
It's too bad, I couln't ask his opinion about that because of the lack of time.

Hi John,
The advantage of this presentation is the knowledge of students. They have africans origins so they speak very well of this subject. Their presentation is structured and they have well allocated their working time.
Concerning the subject, a few years ago there were problems of insecurity in some countries. But most countries have resolved the problems to increase the number of tourists. I have lot of friends who have visited Africa like Egypt, Maghreb, South Africa, Senegal. They don't have problem so it's prejudice except in the poorest countries like Ethiopia or Mauritania. To regulate this problem, more communication is essential on Africa and less corruption in governments.

It is exactly the lack of time with some problems of setting up, but we can discuss it , I thought to do too a hike in the moutain Kilimandjaro. Maybe next summer, if I go to Africa.Clarisse Gilquin wrote:It was a good presentation.

You have snatched the question from me ...
It is a good presentation!
If it was not the lack of time... I want to know: Glody in her presentation said that, we have to stop Corruption. But WHICH CORRUPTION?
-Corruption of money send by international association or government to develop tourism,
-Or corruption of all the money paid by tourism?
Even if the causes are not good.
This money help to devellop a part of tourism. For example, when this people came, and pay to kill animals, they also pay to stay in luxurius hotel, to eat good foods...
Isn't it????
So I think that corruption is not an obstacle to the growth of tourism in Africa.

Fantastic subject you presented us.The tourism is a activity which contribute to the developpement countries to the growth. Therefore, I think that, if we take advantage of all best place we have in Africa, it leads economic situation to the Growth.

So I think that corruption is not an obstacle to the growth of tourism in Africa.
In our presentation, we refer to the development of mass tourism open to any public, rich or middle class, or just a normal tourist.
Actually, it is a selective tourism (with the rich) whose not benefit to the people, the economies of the countries and therefore the tourist sector because there is no creation of hotel, services, travel agencies, Because this money paid by the rich who exterminates animals in African parks go directly into the pockets of governments (it is not money reinvested in the economy and tourism of the countries).Ok These rich people pay for food, residences Luxurious private, but all this benefit that a category of people close to the government is not the country.
And on the other side, the illegal traffic of elephant and rhinoceros ivoiry in exchange for large sums of money. It is a problem for the conservation of the animal species and therefore the development of the parks(exposition), nearly half of the lion population has disappeared in 20 years.
To better understand, it works like minerals (oil, diamonds, coltan), the government does nothing to develop an industry that treats minerals, but it is large international firms like Total Areva in exchange for bribes (corruption ).
I hope I have well answered your question, and that is very clear.

You know Matt you've been there This is a myth, so difficult to establish the exact place, although some geologists located it exactly 200 kilometers from Cape Town

Making the party with you Glody in Africa, it must be something terrible !!!
According to me advertisement have a big place in the lake of visiting in Africa.
In one hand you often got advertising for touristic regions, finance by local tourism, like Andulisia, Croatia, Sicily, Isreal. In the other hand you've got media who shown negative aspect in Africa (terrorism , corruption). When you want to go abroad with all this things in mind, it's logical you brain prefer the "welcoming" country. Even if it's an error, if you want a big change of senery Africa is one of the best idea.

Re: Tourism development in Africa - Glody, Rachel & Amina
Africa suffers from a tourist point of view of the numerous attacks, kidnapping by armed groups.
Apart from the countries of the Maghreb, I have the impression that African countries don't attract force compared to other Europeans like Spain, Portugal, Italy. Personally, when I think of traveling to a country, I don't think of Africa. It's a way of thinking, and it joins the other subject on the black history, but with globalization, I hope things will change because Africa is full of beautiful landscapes and activities for tourists.
Africa is the future.

I love the presentation because i love travelling and discover new countries and cultures. I didn't know much about tourism in Africa a part of the north of Africa before.
I agree with the others that Africa suffers of political problems and i think its the main purpose why tourism is not very developped.
Although some countries have successful tourism industry, maybe due to being far of dangerous areas but especially they benefits of many factors that facilitate the development of the tourism sector.
Like South Africa for their wild safaris expedition, Morocco due to beautiful beaches and the proximity with Europe or Egypt benefiting of his rich history.
