Re: News article Thread
Hi everyone, here is the article I chose for this week! PNL’s World Or Nothing
As you can see, the article is also available in French, but I would advise you to read it in English anyway, as I find it more complete and interesting.
Vocabulary:
strikes - grèves (to be on strike - être en grève)
to urge - exhorter, recommander avec insistance
unavoidable - inévitable, impossible à rater
catchy - entraînant(e)
despair - désespoir
homegrown - cultivé à la maison (here it means more that the variations of rap music are specific to France)
to deem worthy of respect - juger digne de respect
to sprout up - germer
a throng - une foule
to giggle - glousser
doe-eyed - aux yeux de biches
unflinchingly - sans détour
PR guy - attaché de presse (PR = press relation)
mimicking - imitant
grinning - souriant (with a big smile)
hazy - brumeux
to balk - hésiter, refuser
to mess around - déconner
straight-talking - franc-parler
to be into something - aimer quelque chose
to be backed - être soutenu (financièrement)
This article is quite old, but still relevant as it is the only "interview" of the band available to this day. I chose it mainly because we all have an opinion of this band - good or not - and therefore I think we all can discuss it.

Re: News article Thread
To be clear, or not, for next week (our last week) you should choose 9 words from your article (normally from the vocabulary list you wrote on here) and make 9 "taboo" type cards for a vocabulary game next week. That entails writing the word to be guessed at the top of the card and then 3 or 4 words below a segregating line that cannot be used to help define it. Here is a template https://d1uvxqwmcz8fl1.cloudfront.net/tes/resources/11308465/0ae96af7-bb97-47df-b9b7-319f9e2dc8d5/image?width=500&height=500&version=1467107905042 but it doesn't really matter as long as you come with 9 separate pieces of paper in the format outlined above.
If you don't arrive with them I'll just give you a hard and boring Grammar exercise instead.
