For me, there is nothing truer than this sentence. Because the food, and the fact of eat in general, is more than just a need to fill. It's a way to come together, to share a unique moment, and that's where the wealth of a country lies.

I come from Togo, in west Africa, and I leave my country to continue my studies. I haven't back for three years and one of the things I miss the most is food. Is it normal ? Absolutely ! Because when I think of a dish, I remember a smell, a flavor, a memory, a unique moment that I shared with loved ones. And it's the reason why I think that the food is powerfull. More than showing us the culture of a country, it allows us to remember who we are and where we come from.

I agree with you. when I used to travel what I enjoyed most was sampling the local specialities - whatever they were.

Was is a typical dish for Togo?

Whether with the wide variety of pastas, pizzas, cold cuts or cheeses, everything is delicious in this country in my opinion. However the French gastronomy is obviously excellent too and I love to eat snails on occasion !

Unfortunately for me I'm a very bad cook and when I try to make something other than pasta it's a disaster ... Luckily for me, and my stomach, the university restaurant costs only €1 per meal since this year and it allows me to diversify my meals more often. It's really a chance to be in a country where, as a student, you can enjoy a complete balanced meal almost every day for such a low cost ! I'm also fortunate to have excellent cooks in my family, for exemple when I go to see my grandmother I know I will enjoy her homemade 5 cheese pizza every time. I'm hungry just thinking about it!

People don't seem to think that England has it's own gastronomy. it's true that we accept food from all over the world (as we accept people from all over the world) but there are many "English dishes" and that is not just Fish and chips or the English breakfast.

Nawel wrote:I forgot to talk about food last week in the topic "hobbies". Eating and cooking are real hobbies for me. I very often eat in restaurants and fast foods and I always enjoy cooking.
During the lockdown, everybody turned into a chef, we all tried to make our own bread... I was so bored that I decided to do a kind of culinary world tour and to try recipes from every part of the world. The dishes I preferred were :
- Lebanon mezzes, Mujadarra (rice with lentils) meatballs and pita bread
- Turkish borek with bulgur and meat
- Indian butter chicken with rice and cheese naans
And talking about Indian food, I know you John like it, you should try the "Jardin due Kashmir" restaurant in downtown Angoulême, it's the best Indian restaurant I have been to in France (and I tried many Indian restaurants in different cities).

Nawel I know the jardins de kashmir well and they know me. In fact before Covid I use to arrange a meal for the whole M2 at christmas and the M1 at the end of the year at the Jardin de Kashmir. All the waiters and owners speak English and love to talk about Cricket.

The Moghol is also a good restaurant.

Firstly, I find that the sandwiches are particularly good, especially their breads and sauces. Then, from my point of view it’s quite copious and it wedges well, but it's still balanced. In fact, all kinds of vegetables can be found inside, like carrots, corn, cucumber, tomatoes etc... There are also many meat choices, including several vegetarian alternatives. The last but not least, their cookies are delicious. Moreover, we find them everywhere in the big cities now, except in Angouleme unfortunately…

Angouleme is not a big city. Subway sandwiches are good but they are so expensive.

I think food is a big subject in your society.
Food is a real pleasure for many of us but it’s also a source of addiction particulary today.
Agro-food industries and fast food have created a new diet. The consequences of this new diet have led to disorders such as anorexia and bulimia. Today in France, one in 200 girls is affect.
Food is a subject that is related to many others like the physical. People often think food as a body
With the social media the body criteria have change and in consequence the way to eat.

As I don’t really have any interesting idea about food, I’m going to talk about my personal experience with food culture (how exciting). When I was a child, my mother used to cook a lot, always wanting my sister and I to taste everything to give us the opportunity to know more about special, local or seasonal food (local specialties, different kinds of meat, cheese, veggies, fruits…).

When I think about food culture, I also think about the trips that we’ve taken with my family where we were enjoying discovering new (and sometimes weird) food. For example, we tasted some really unusual fruits in Bali with strange shapes, colors and textures… and it was delicious!

This week I am delighted with the theme! Because yes, food is how you say it... A real passion. Unfortunately, I am not talking about cooking, which, let's be honest, is a chore for me...
What I like about food is the multitude of flavours, the visuals of certain dishes, the smell, the sensations that a good meal can provoke.
My favourite dishes? It's complicated to choose just one, as I'm not picky and greedy. But I would say that I still have a small appetite for potatoes. It's simple to cook (which is something I'm not very motivated to do in the kitchen), and so good... It's also a food that can be cooked in several forms to vary the pleasures!
For me, food is also an excellent opportunity to get together and share a good moment of conviviality.

Life would have been sad without food! People need to eat to survive, yes it's a fact, but you need to see this subject in another angle. If you know how to cook and know the different skills to make a dish, well you have won everthing! With food, you can make people happy, change their mind set and even controle their emotions. In reality, food can be used as a weapon but thank god it gives more pleasure (orgasm!!!)... Sorry does more good than harm. Very Happy

PS: food porn is better than your boyfriend/girlfriend

I'm not sure if this says more about your partner or about your love of food. Twisted Evil
