Svetlana Gannushkina "Nobel Alternative"
Hello Everybody !
I will like to introduce this topic.
Is about Svetlana Gannushkina, a contender for the Nobel peace Prize.
I found the video in YouTube website but the original source come from (DW NEWS) website: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4fcBm1fhG0
This woman is an Russian activist, fighting and helping migrants and refugees from Uzbekistan for legal and humanity aid.
I think that the issue is relevant, because the whole world in these days is currently sensitive regarding this situation.
As we all know many refugees, arrive in a country only with the hope of living, this woman is struggling to improve the quality of life of this people.
The Russian Government, according to what she says, does not guarantee the human rights of these people, which most of the time are humiliated.
She thinks that Russia is a country geographically huge, also with resources, which could facilitate the lives of these people arriving in Russia.
Svetlana believes that this is a Universal problem and all of us must be committed to finding a solution. Russia, however, does not agree with this and is not taking the necessary responsibilities.
According to the information which she expresses in the video, refugees arrives without papers, their documents are stolen in the border, and then to the entrance in Russia they are provides with false documents, this creates a kind of manipulation by the authorities, once these people entering in Russian territory, they are victims to injustice.
Given the record number of people displaced globally and the heated debate about refugee resettlement in the West, Ms Gannushkina's advocacy played an important role, as an human activist.
Finally I think that prize for her, aside from recognising her tireless rights work, would also draw attention to the problematic record of the current Russian leadership.

Re: Svetlana Gannushkina "Nobel Alternative"
As she says in the video, the laws are in place, the procedures too, but they are just not used. So the problem is not even a legal one, it's about mentalities. Russians need to accept these refugees, to change their mind about them. This is a social trouble. If you have laws but don't apply them, it means the people are against it, the government too, and that is what needs to be changed, but you don't change someone's mind that easily.
This woman is very strong, fighting for refugees' rights when they can't do anything about it by themselves. I hope there are other people like her in Russia, to make things move.

Re: Svetlana Gannushkina "Nobel Alternative"
I do agree with you Eloise.
But I think it's also really important to have people like Svetlana to help the refugees. My issue is that a lot of association in each european country are doing the same thing than Svetlana and why can't they have the Nobel price? Maybe the status of refugees is worst in Russia... But if we look at the situation in Calais (north of France) the refugees are not very welcomed either and they also don't want to stay in France...
Ah complicated subject, it would be great anyway that the nobel price goes to someone who helps refugees because immigration might be the problem of our century.
