TV series, films...
Hello everybody,
Today I decided to speak about the series I started, which is The Get Down.
So, in The Get Down you follow a group of teenagers, who lived in the Bronx at the end of the 70's. That's kind of a musical series because the group of people you follow is living during the disco music era (mostly at the end of it), and at the beginning of the Hip-Hop period in New-York.
The main character is named Zeke (Ezekiel Figuero). He is living with her aunt and her boyfriend in a small flat in the Bronx. He is pretty clever (he writes a lot of poems especially), and one day, while he still knows nothing about the existence of the Hip-Hop movement, he goes to a party with his friends, but when they get in the party, they discover a new way to party, and not on disco music, but on dirty dancing Hip-Hop beat, mixed by DJ Grandmaster Flash. At that moment, they all know that they found something that really represent'em all.
A friend of Zeke, Dizee (played by Will Smith's son, Jaden) is also a writer. So you discover the Hip-Hop culture through it mains expression, namely : Rap, Music and Art.
There's moments where the narration of the series is rapped, because there's a parallel between Zeke's today's life (when he became a great rapper) and his life before that (when he grew up in the Bronx), so the adult Zeke is rapping about his childhood.
There are many things to say, but what I can say above all is : watch it if you like the Hip-Hop culture because that's very rich on many point of view.

Re: TV series, films...
Hey man!
I saw this series this summer, and I fell in love!
The first episode did not give me much. But that's like Games of Thrones, the first is not convincing. But the rest of the season literally absorb me!
The soundtrack is absolutely huge. Christina Aguilera makes even an appearance in the series. She interprets a very beautiful piece there. As music fans, I had to watch this series. And Nas, a famous rapper, intervened in the soundtrack. He's not anyone!
I love the different characters, especially Boo Boo who makes me laugh every time!
Netflix put 120 millions dollars for The Get Down, it's the most expensive series produce by Netflix. But, the new series "A Series of Unfortunate Events" is coming with Neil Patrick Harris and Netflix is going to blow the bank!
I'm glad someone else saw The Get Down! It was a little hidden by the wild success of Stranger Things (which is a damn good series!)
I'm disappointed that there have been only 6 episodes even if the rest of the season is announced in early 2017! I can't wait !
Bye !

Hi!
I decided to speak about Community . I've watched the first episode of the fourth saison on Monday.
This american tv series created by Dan Harmon, stages the lifes of a students groups in a community college named Greendale. In the three first saisons we follow 7 mains characters:
-Jeff Winger, a lawyer who have to go back to the college because its bachelor's degree is false.
-Abed Nadir is the better character in my opinion! He compare all his life with tv series and movies that why he seems strange.
-Britta Perry is a revolted girl who want to put some order in her life
-Troy Barnes, a old quaterback in high school and Abed's best friend.
-Shirley Bennett, a black christian mother.
-Annie Edison look like to a quite young woman but before to study in Greendale she had to go in rehab.
-Pierce Hawthorne is a racist millionaire who is registered in college not to be alone.
This group is formed as a result to a creation by Jeff of a false revison group.
In each episode a no sens moment takes place, that's why it's an amazing tv series.

This is England ?
Yo yo yo !!
Seen as I am a huge fan of series, movies.... I decided to join your conversation!
.....Not that I know of the series you are talking about... YET! I'll get round to watching them some time I swear!
(Though the Series of Unfortunate Events, by Netflix, has to be worth seeing. I read all the books when I was little. Loved them!)
I also wanted to share a series I recently watched (and rewatched, cos' it was "the bomb"!). It's called "This is England". This particuliar drama was written and directed by Shane Meadows, and is centered round the lives of Skinheads in Britain!
"This is England" takes you through the tremendously dramatic and funny lives of a gang from up North, and tells the tales of the 70's right up'till the mid 90's.
From Thatcher (nationalism and racism); through banta, and social comotion; this series is gonna catch ya'!
It's worth a watch anyway - especially if you wanna get a grasp of English culture, and subculture.

BoJack Horseman
Hi hi~
dose here anybody who has seen this series? It's an adult animated comedy-drama series with a style so America. I'm just starting to see the season 1 but i found i love it. At first, i thought it's a series just for laughing, but when i saw the first episode, i found it's a serious animation and also affectionate。 It tells about a Hollywood goner star, he is actually kindly and lonely man under his evil appearance. There are a lot of familiar and classic Hollywood's creative and plot, and also ridicule the Golden Globes and Hollywood stars.

Re: TV series, films...
Hello,
Right now, I watch the second season of Narcos. I like this series because it’s based on real fact and sometimes there are original videos. The series traces the career of Pablo Escobar, who is most famous drug dealer of the 1980s. He is at the head of the Medellin cartel. He and his group is chased by the DEA agents (US) and the Colombian authorities. Two DEA agents, Steve Murphy and Javier Peña, participate in the fight against the cartel and the hunt of Pablo Escobar. Then we can see the relationship between the United State and the fight against narcotrafic. It was therefore differents perspectives -police, political and personal- with Murphy and Pena’s life. And also the life of Pablo.
The complex links between drug traffickers who control the market with force and ingenuity and authority are shown. Moreover, we can see that the people of Colombia support P.Escobar, a man highly respected in the city, so they help him not to be captured.
This series shows as P.Escobar dominates. But also echoed them, that it has in politics.
I think it's a interesting series.

Re: TV series, films...
Hello!
Narcos is a really cool series I like it a lot. What a charismatic way of portaying a guy that had such influence on Colombia, and in such a way. It really got me liking him ^^
I also think it is interesting for an american series producer to work on the subject of narcotraffing. They did it well, and like you said Iolina got many points of view across.
However, I finished the series ages ago... I can't really remember. I should re-watch the episodes I think. I would still love them just as much!
Now to another series:
I don't know if anybody watches South Park, though you must have heard of it.
I love South Park. It is interesting, politicaly envolved, and funny.
A new season just came out. I waited a year from the new episodes.
There are 3 episodes already, and last night I binged watched all three of them!
This season is all about the role of social media in our society, and the way it affects our lives in the most controversial ways. It also shows how power seeking people can overthrough the morals of our society - and destroy the world around us.

Hi,
I've finished the first season of the get down and like Ivan, I fell in love !
If you like Hip Hop mouvement or funk or disco, this show is definitly made for you. But you also can see the serie on different way and learn more about the athmosphere in ghetto of the 70s.
I particulary loved how the story is told, by the famous MC Nas (he gave his voice to adult Ezequiel).
Enjoy watching the get down bro's story
"Shaolin is the dj that we call conductor cause Shaolin fantastic's bad mother..."
Have fun
PS : I suggest you to use a earphone or good sound for better sensations

Yo!
The first season is not completely over! They diffused only 6 episodes. The next 6 episodes aired in 2017! Can't wait!
The punchlines are huge!
"When the get down brothers
(Are in the place)
We rock to the beat
With style and grace
We got the moves
And the verbal gymnastics
Cause our DJ's name is Shaolin Fantastic"
I had the misfortune to watch an episode in French, it was horrible! This kind of series deserve good sound (like you say) and VO or VOSTFR!

Re: TV series, films...
Hi everyone,
I watched the 4 first episodes of the series Narcos. It's a good debut, i appreciate it but i'm not yet a fan. The story and this type of series is not see more and it's good to have new type of series on all this existing series.
I begin it and i will finish it, because i want to know the final. And i hope that episodes after episodes i will appreciate it a lot !
I have to told you, if you don't have watch it yet don't watch it in french. In VF is not good, it's better in VO or in VOSTFR (for better understand some sentences/words).

Re: TV series, films...
hi everyone,
Did you watch the series Elementary ? Or just did you heard about it ?
Elementary is a series that is a modern adaptation of the adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
The series is about a famous detective from London where he was a consultant for Scotland Yard. Returned from London because of his addiction to alcohol, S.Holmes now lives in Manhattan, NY.
He has just left a detoxification treatment, at the request of his wealthy father with whom he is in conflict, he is forced to cohabit with Dr. Joan Watson, former surgeon who is converted into a companion of sobriety.
Sherlock has incredible observation and deduction capabilities, which gives him the ability to work with the NYPD to investigate insoluble crimes. And all this with the help of Watson and his medical skills.
This series is not a copy of the adventures of Sherlock Holmes, the detective universe is in this series totally revised. The place of history is no longer London but in NY, Watson is present to the foremost in his fight against drugs. Sherlock becomes a consultant for the NYPD of NY and no longer of Scotland Yard, and the arrival of new characters: Inspector Gregson and Detective Bell.
i watch lots of episodes of this series. Good series with good actors. It's a series that is not only serious, there are humorous passages that somewhat de-dramatize the events of each episode.
If you had not watch it yet, and you like detective show => watch it ! :p

I've watched all the episodes. I preferred the first season where Sherlock was "unusual" but gradually he and the programme have become quite ordinary. I've found this latest season quite boring, it's easy to identify who the "killer" is very quickly and Sherlock no longer uses his skills. I find the police department a big minus to the series and even Watson and her ever changing costumes (always with her legs on show) is becoming tedious.
It's a simple and easy watch but I'm not sure I'll keep going much longer.
